Iga, both of you played great, powerful tennis. The level was so high, this could have been a worthy match in the Final. You can be proud of your speed and intensity. Unfortunately you hit the ball out in important moments. If you could have controlled that, the match would have been different. Admit that to yourself, and work on this part of the game before the next tournament!

Iga won the second set because she was hitting the ball early and hard. When she is confident she can just crank winners at will from her forehand and backhand. The errors also come because of that strategy and when Iga is under so much pressure. If Iga tempers her aggression, Rybakina will hit more winners and will have fewer errors. It's something like choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea

No i ciągle powinna pracować nad serwisem, bo Rybakina serwuje zdecydowanie lepiej.

At least Rybakina said that she finds this court in Stuttgart (clay on a wooden underground) rather slow compared to Roland Garros and she prefers Paris in terms of the surface. Nevertheless, indoor conditions without sun and wind help big servers. But I you are right. The ultimate goals are Roland Garros and the Olympics. I hope Elena wins both.

Iga is the best returner in the WTA, no ifs and buts. The way she was returning in this match, she would have beaten everybody not named Elena. It's just that no amount of skill can overcome the aces and unreturnables that Elena serves.

Collins is a better returner.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
@@GhostofGerulaitis Respectfully, I have to disagree. Collins is a better returner on her best day because she is more powerful than Iga and can produce winners galore off second serves when she is on. However, Collins rarely performs at her peak best. Most of the time her returns are dumped at the net or sprayed in the tramlines or beyond the baseline because she always goes for winners and hits the ball flat. Iga is not as spectacular a returner as Collins, but she always manages to return the ball at a disadvantageous position to the server and then wins the point within her next two shots. She does not often hit return winners like Collins because her returns are topspin shots which gives it more probability of clearing the net but gives the server more time to get to the ball, but she also rarely fails to return a serve. Not the case with Collins, whose returns are 50/50 most often.
@GhostofGerulaitis
@GhostofGerulaitis Ай бұрын
@@tennisobserver995 I hear you. But when I'm determining the "best" of something, some criteria are more important to me than others. Consistency - which is perhaps the one area where Iga out performs Collins on returns - is less important to me than speed, weight, precision, and the often elusive factor of intimidation. You don't want to hit a second serve against Danielle Collins.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
@@GhostofGerulaitis I agree with you that Collins is more intimidating than Iga on 2nd serve returns because of how hard she can hit the ball and she is physically more imposing than Iga. However, beyond the optics, I'm sure WTA players would rather serve a 2nd serve to Collins than to Iga Swiatek, because with today's analytics I'm sure they know they have a much better chance of winning the point with Collins who is mostly hit-or-miss, than with Iga who rarely misses returns and usually dominates the rallies. People who are just watching the match have different perspectives than the players who are actually undergoing the experience, especially if they are non-tennis players who don't understand the intricacies of the game. By the way, I'm not referring to you in that last part. It's just a general statement.

It was 1GA'S 3rd match on clay this year. She csme to Stuttgart directly from BJKCUP in Biel on hard court. First practice on clay this year. If 1GA played Elene in the fina she would be much better. Today Elena played better but the match was very tight. It was a 3 set battle. Though 1GA has won with Rybakina on hard this year. The more 1GA will play on clay she will get to her top form. 3 GS in RĢ did not come as a gift...Today was not 1GA day. If she played as with Raducanu she would have won. Elena played her best match in Stuttgart with 1GA. Congrats to Elena fot the win and to 1GA for the battle with herself, her serve and her own pressure as she said herself. They will.probable have more chances this season to compete again. Good luck to both❤.

Rybakina will get stronger on clay as well. You forget that Rybakina never really had a chance to get going on clay last year with early tournament losses(to Kalinskaya in Madrid and a retirement against Maia in the 2nd round of Stuttgart)and an illness causing her to drop out of Roland Garros when she was a favorite to win it. Last year Rybakina won Rome despite not playing like a clay court player until the 2nd set of the quarterfinals, this year she will be looking to win more on clay and trying to defend Rome so she will become more and more of a clay courter. Honestly I think clay should be Rybakina’s 2nd best surface after grass because it gives her the time she needs to hit the shots she wants.

@tunemeister99
@tunemeister99 Ай бұрын
EXACTLY CORRECT! Really do not know why she and her team never emphasize this weakness in their training routine? Imagine if she could serve like most legends do with strong aces, she will really win convincingly this kind of matches.
@tomsd8656
@tomsd8656 Ай бұрын
@tunemeister99 She doesn't need to train for aces, just a good pace, good kick second serve. After all, the saying goes that you're only as good as your second serve. The first serve used to be weak also but it looked like she had improved on that.
@valeriejohnson8771
@valeriejohnson8771 Ай бұрын
@tomsd8656. Totally agree with you about Iga’s serve. Notice how Iga becomes nervous in tight matches, her serve goes away. The fact that she cannot get on top of Rybakina in these contests, is now playing with her psyche. She got off to a fast start today, but found herself pegged back by Elena and lost the first set easily. She needs a great first and second serve, especially second serve. That would take so much pressure off her.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
Actually, Iga has a very good kick serve which is very hard to attack on clay. That's the main reason Rybakina missed so many second serve returns. Her first serve has also improved a lot, it's a lot faster now than last year. But there is not much variety in her serve. With Rybakina Iga almost always serves to the body as this had worked wonders for her in their match at Doha. This time, Elena just took a few steps back and she had that serve already neutralized. In fact, most of Iga's unreturned serves in this match is a second serve. Her serve is no longer a liability like last year, but it is still not a weapon she could depend on to bail her out of trouble. To expect her to serve as well as Rybakina does is totally unrealistic. Rybakina is a gifted server. No one in the WTA can serve as well as she can when she's healthy.
@tomsd8656
@tomsd8656 Ай бұрын
@tennisobserver995 Yes, mostly her second serve was ok, not great, but one can tell by the service motion that she doesn't have confidence in it, so it tends to get weak in tight situations. Then she double faulted when she didn't want to pop a weak second serve in. No one expects iga to serve like the great servers, but a confident second serve is needed.
@ReidVV
@ReidVV Ай бұрын
Her coaches changing her serve this year was a big mistake. Her serve has become less reliable and maybe more predictable. She is 22. She's #1. She's going to be on top for a long time because only Rybakina has the complete gane required to beat her. Sabalenka is good, too, but inconsistency hurts her. She has trouble with the truly top players like iga and rybakina that can deal with her power and make her keep hitting balls back. I think its great to NOT have Iga just dominate everyone. Rybakina v Swiatek is women's version of Federer vs Djokovic, or now Sinner vs Alcaraz. Its good for tennis.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
The way I see it, only Iga can beat Elena Rybakina at Roland Garros this year if Rybakina is 100% healthy. Iga's serve is already much better this year compared to last year. In fact she is already #1 in the WTA in service games won percentage and Rybakina is just second to her. I don't think her serve can be much better but she can improve it by varying its placement and spins so it will not be predictable. Iga can never serve as fast as Rybakina because Iga is only 5'9" and she is not as powerful as Serena Wiliiams who is built like a tank, and she does not have Rybakina's in-born sense of timing and accuracy as far as the serve is concerned. Not even Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia who are great servers serve as well as Rybakina. I believe only Naomi Osaka has the potential to rival Rybakina in the serving department because Elena Rybakina is an all-time great server. Iga will increase her chances of beating her by developing very good slices and drop shots to disrupt Elena's rhythm and by improving her volleying skills. She can't win in a no-holds barred hitting slugfest with Rybakina because Rybakina is more powerful and accurate.

In the past Iga was a better player but Rybakina is her equal now if both are playing well. The main difference between them is Iga’s floor is quite a bit higher than Rybakina’s but Rybakina is starting to catch up there as well(as you can see with Rybakina throwing away 2nd sets in a lot of her matches and still winning without facing match points). In terms of wins this year they are identical(24-4)with Rybakina having slightly better wins in terms of rank(and despite Rybakina dropping out of Dubai and not playing Indian Wells as defending champion). Rybakina can get much better than this while Iga is much closer to her peak, don’t be surprised if Rybakina becomes the ultimate kryptonite for Iga who can get deep in tournaments and beat her most of the time.

Easy to say that when you're not actually playing Rybakina, who is just a nightmare matchup for Iga. Iga is the best player in the WTA as a whole, but in a group composed of only the Top 4 players in the WTA (Iga, Aryna, Coco and Elena), Rybakina is the best. So how can Iga relax when she knows she is not better than Rybakina head-to-head? If Iga plays lower velocity shots against Rybakina, Rybakina will just have more winners, less unforced errors and make Iga look worse. Iga has been winning almost all of her matches with the same aggressive style, so it will be very difficult for her to change just to defeat one player which is not even a given. Rybakina is the only player who has all the tools to beat Iga. Ostapenko has dominated Iga, but it will be more likely for Iga to beat Ostapenko on clay than for Iga to beat Rybakina. I wish Iga and Elena all reach the final at Roland Garros. Whoever wins, it will be quite a match.

Congrats to Elena🎉 from diehard Iga fan. Where was the main coach when f Iga? This is the fastest clay court, so the next tournaments even out the difference seen today. Iga’s first serve percentage awful. Should have left BJC and practice on the clay like previous years. Hope she will play Madrid.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
The first serve percentage is awful because Iga tries to make a very strong first serve after Rybakina just swats her average speed first serves. Iga would serve above 70% against all opponents not named Elena Rybakina. Elena just has that effect that Sabalenka and Swiatek serve worse than their usual when facing her because she puts so much pressure on them to make very good serves.
@jukkao.parviainen8669
@jukkao.parviainen8669 Ай бұрын
@@tennisobserver995 Good point. Because in IW, Iga commented in the Canal+ interview that the first serve is now 115 mph / 185 km/h and with 70 % in, so to the speed she is not planning to make improvements but for stabilisation.
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
@@jukkao.parviainen8669 The improvements that Iga can make on her first serve is to direct the majority to 1/4 the width of the service box on the T-side and the wide side line. That will give her more aces but it will also lower her first serve percentage by a bit. Osaka and Rybakina who are great servers only serve above 60% and they are taller than Iga so their ball has a better probability of clearing the net and landing in. The most that Iga can gain, though, is by changing the spin and direction of her serves often so it does not become predictable. Servers like Osaka and Rybakina are gifted. Sadly, though, Iga might not be one and it will be impossible for her to reach their serving level. Iga should focus more on improving her volleying skills and develop a good slice to change the rhythm every once in a while.

Henin played during Serena era. Iga dominate an era when big names are at the end of their careers or her rivals just lose interest, injured or maternity eg Svitolina, Muguruza, Barty, Osaka, Halep, Andreescu, Anisimova, Krejcikova, Muchova etc etc. What you get is a Covid inflicted neither-here-nor-there 2000-2023 period where the WTA top 10 was rather inconsistent (and Kenin + Raducanu took the opportunity to grab 1 GS each) Compared to the pre-Covid post-Steffi golden era that Henin had to play - we had Venus, Mauresmo, Kutznetsova, Azarenka, Sharapova, Ivanovic, Kerber, Clijsters, Serena, Jankovic, Wozniacki, Kvitova, Safina, Li Na and Henin herself. The line-up just would not compare. But the WTA is just only 2 years of emerging from pandemic. Iga is benefitting from the transition of post-Serena era.

@@inspirasiplaylists9910 Naaahhh!! You understand very well about WTA's past era like 2003-2013 which was more competitive back then cuz all of players you mentioned mostly tried so hard to finally reach no. 1. So that era was full of variation. Aaahhh kvitova and li na both were no. 2 and also have 2 GS! Sorry to mention henin and barty cuz they both were no. 1 and still had a great shape. But, they announced very early retirement while they actually still had many things to prove more unless they had reached graf's level

The real number 1 unquestionable for 99 weeks is 1GA. It is the same as you would doubt that Djoco is mot number 1 when he loses. 1GA was not destroyed by Elena. It was a very tight match. 1GA has the right to lose. When Sabalenka loses it is ok. When Rybakina lost with 1GA it was ok. When 1GA loses 3rd match out ouf 21 itvis a disaster...The hate is pouring. People be human and objective. Listen to Rybakina how respectfull she is. Listen to 1GA how respectfull she is towards all opponents. This is one vs one game. When one wins the other loses. I am so disgusted bybthose opinions here. Learn from Elena and 1GA how to react snd comment.

Bravo Rybakina! o fata deosebita..

@@Pelican11 It also comes down to the physical training, which is in Iga’s case done in the preseason with a great variability. When your overall athleticism is developing like in her case, the muscles are helpful to prevent e.g. back injuries. And I don’t see it in Ryba’s case, which would be of course helpful to her.

So what's the betting on Iga not winning any Slams at all this year? 1 down,3 left and you can virtually count out Wimbledon,so that just leave the French Open and the US Open. After today,you have to say that the French Open is no longer such a dead cert anymore so Iga's last hope remains the US Open but then you have so many contenders and the ultimate wildcard to gatecrash the entire party of the big 3 might just be Emma herself!😂
@tennisobserver995
@tennisobserver995 Ай бұрын
Iga will still be the big favorite to win the French Open as the only player who might beat her there is Rybakina and they won't meet earlier than the semifinals. But if she does play Rybakina there, I won't even think about betting on Iga who will always be the favorite. If she plays Rybakina in the semifinals and she loses, she would lose a ton of points and that would give Sabalenka a crack at the year-end #1
@eyeofthetiger6002
@eyeofthetiger6002 Ай бұрын
@@tennisobserver995 big favourite? I wouldn't count on it after the way Rybakina just crushed Kostyuk easily in straight sets to win the Stuttgart Open title.I think as long as Iga doesn't improve her serves or introduce more variety to her game she's always vulnerable to big servers and hitters.It looks like she hasn't really improved much whereas others have,I mean just have to look at how she struggled against Emma in the first set,a year ago she would have swatted Emma away easily,not being taken to a tie break because Emma has improved beyond recognition from the player of 2 years ago especially her serves and forehands.I fear the pressure will really be on for Iga come the French Open because failure to defend her title will mean losing 2000 points!🤣
