Fallout 4’s Survival Mode, or Survival Difficulty, is a tough-as-nails version of the Fallout experience. Beyond making the enemies incredibly tough, Survival mode is filled with gameplay changes that make every element of Fallout 4 quite a bit harder. From needing to eat, reduced saving capacity, and much more - Survival mode isn’t for the faint of heart. In this video, we’ll go over the biggest changes in Survival mode versus the more traditional Fallout experience, and offer some tips on surviving in the desolate, unforgiving wasteland.

Survival mode is great. Like he said, it really changes your perspective of the game. Everything becomes more important. That enemy group you have to face for some NPC really feels like an accomplishment when you are receiving the appreciation. But... The real enemy of survival mode is the crashing. The next gen update didn't save everyone.

The poorly drawn objects are the problem in this game. Especially when sniping, it's not exactly a sniper elite experience because of the invisible walls. Same problem with molotovs. What a bullet may pass trough, an object wont. This however can save your life when you're camping a super mutant from a bus wreck. Only use molotovs in the open at enemies that hide behind cover.

Correction: all food and drinks heal, but only after satisfying thirst/hunger first! So eating/drinking to full stomach heals

Eating with an empty stomach also stops you from getting buffs such as the carrying capacity boost from grilled radstag

they tweeked the sleeping in survival a little bit since the next gen update you get "well rested" after 5 hours if you're not hungry, sick or tired.

The survival mode is cool but for me, finding a bed constantly is a drag. If you play this game a lot, then yeah it is indeed the fresh experience you’re looking for. If you played it once back in the day and are comin back to it, don’t do survival mode. You really have to be somewhat familiar with locations across the wasteland. Hoping you come across what you need, randomly exploring is not the way to go

You missed one point with the lone wanderer perk you can get dogmeat with you and the perk will still be active (unless they patched it out) so you get the benefits of the perk and have dogmeat as backup and he helps you with carrying things

Think ahead. If you are on the run to secure the next settlement, carry the necessary items for some basic building with you. Crystal, copper, rubber, oil, gears, circuits.

You CAN "fast travel" using a Verti Bird - this is only avaible after the Prydwen arrival

It is literally in no way fast traveling. It is traveling. it is not fast. There is no loading screen. You aren’t skipping anything. It is not fast travel in any way

@@funki4896 it's not fast travel since you can still be killed while traveling especially with missiles when you are flying over some enemy buildings.. and you can stop the travel at any time as well.

I'm currently level 30 on my unmodded survival playthrough of FO4(survival is best unmodded). It's my second survival playthrough but first one in about 6 years. I'm loving it. It can get really tense and immersive. The new questline with the Enclave was really gnarly at level 27.

If you like random frustrations totally outside player control setting you back hours at a time, unmodded survival is the way to go. The game can be much better balanced and the survival experience more immersive with a few mods, not to mention the bugs squashed with the unofficial patch alone.

Recordable holotape mod is best synergies for Survival mode so you can avoid those sudden crashes with your long playthrough but there's a twist, you need to search it in the entire Commonwealth for you to save

That mode basically should have been part of the difficulty itself, or at least another way of Save but still quite restrictive. This is probably one of the top 3 mods for Survival. Holotapes are quite rare to find so it is quite balanced for this mode.

quick tip when it comes to saving without sleeping. Click the action button on the and set to one hour press enter and then cancel right away, you won’t sleep, but it will save your game.

You can increase health damage resistance and damage output for companions. Look into the Perks. Also, you can change their gear to make them stronger. Best companion to carry heavy loads and use as cover and does serious damage is ADA. You can use Codsworth and Jezebel or whatever her name is as well. Ada is better because she agrees with everything you do and doesn’t get pissed about things.

For those wondering, Fallout 76 uses some of these same mechanics. Bed on the ground might give you a disease. Ammo has weight. There are food and thirst meters although they no longer give you a debut for running out, merely a buff for having them full.

Some _corrections:_ *-outgoing* damage: x.75 normal difficulty. This can increase to x1.25 with max ranks of Adrenaline. *_-Adrenaline:_* acts like a permanent perk. After killing X number of enemies, you gain a rank, up to 10. Each rank adds 5% to any damage you do. Lose ranks according to how long you sleep. *-incoming* damage: you receive 4x normal difficulty. Experience Gained is 2x normal. It’s possible to become rested again on 5 hours sleep if you aren’t already tired. Settlements are _not_ essential. Recommended, sure. Diseases disappear after enough time on their own, 2.5-7 days, depending on the disease. There’s fast travel options, later in the game. *_SPOILERS_* Depending on if you help certain factions, you can get a teleport to center map, or on -call helicopters.

NEW PLAYERS!! If you decide to join with the Brotherhood of steel . You get a free suit of great power armor and can call in vertibirds( get a helicopter lift) that can replace fast travel

The mechanics are cool but the diffiuclty is insane. Enemies kill you in two shots. Also the pain of finally beating a difficult mission and stepping on a random land mine on the way back before you can save your game.

For anyone starting again on Playstation. Go to the MODS section and find Survival Fast Travel. There is also a MOD to lower Survival Mode difficulty. Getting 1 shot in this game by molotovs is annoying.

When you are done planning survival mode, try permadeath run with no vats, no powerarmor, no chems, these real survival challenges makes survival mode a real survival fallout game. Try it, youll love it.

This video is incorrect. ALL food restores health, but NOT when hungry. So when you hungry, you eat food to fill up your hunger, and then food will heal. All food heals. "Fallout veteran" this guy says....
