Igneous Rocks Introduction

Күн бұрынThis is a brief introduction to igneous rocks and how to identify them in a hand specimen. Rock types included are peridotite, basalt, andesite, granite, pegmatite, scoria, pumice, and obsidian. This is a smaller than usual set of rocks that we teach students in our introductory geology course at Olivet Nazarene University, simplified down for online lab use.

Can you find peridotite in the Sierra Nevada mountains?

@TacticusPrime I don't know, I've only ever been to the Sierras once. The Sierra Nevada batholith is mostly granites and related rocks, but I'm not an expert on them.

Which stones contains diamonds

Diamonds are primarily found in rocks called kimberlites. But, once at the surface, they can be moved down via streams and also found in placer deposits weathering out of kimberlites.
