Thank you Sean for your insightful commentary. I guess the main reason why they chose those pieces of furniture and other furnishing is the trendiness of the design. Organic shapes, neutral colors, and bold forms are in season nowadays, and so does wabi-sabi esthetic (that you rightly have mentioned). The white sofas may not seem practical in terms of maintenance but they sure do look good :) I also agree about the scale of the furniture. But what I can only guess is the cost factor plays a big role in their design decisions and, perhaps he leans towards a more minimalistic approach? Nevertheless, it is a beautiful DIY makeover project and I salute their commitment to installing their own vinyl flooring, in herringbone no less!

Just another small pet peeve of mine: Another reason why I’m not a big fan of that timber pattern vinyl flooring is that little “raise” between the original tile flooring and that timber flooring. I know it’s just a few millimetres thick but I can still imagine the soles of my feet feeling that little raise if I were to stand in a spot between the tile and that “timber” flooring. Just that makes it feels a little… cheap (? Idk. Maybe it’s just me). Anyway, I totally agree with you about having a feature wall. Instead of spending on vinyl stickers for the flooring, I would have spent it on a nice feature wall.

Im with you Sean that skirting mismatch for me cannot la haha. But with regard to the design I really like their living area, but not a fan of the dining chairs and table at all. But really like their video very aesthetic.

In terms of practicality vs aesthetic, i think there has to be a balance. Though i am more incline to aesthetic. If everything also you take away because of practicality then eventually your house will look very boring 😂. Aesthetic itself is a practicality. And… i have a rug. And my dog loves to pee on it. So i get a sofa washer machine because i need to keep washing the carpet 😂

Hey Sean, you made valid points here. But how much should one limit themselves if it's a rented accommodation. Is it advisable to go for things like a feature wall and things like that which can be quite a personal choice?

In Singapore, one doesnt even need to touch card. It's a bit like smart tag, used in every car park. Pay for toll too. All automatic. Other country should learn from Singapore.
