Michael Carcone scored with under four minutes remaining in the third period to bring Canada within a goal, but Switzerland held on for the victory to improve to 5-0-0 in preliminary action, handing the Canadians their first loss of this year's World Hockey Championship.

@@audibletapehiss3764 Thats true, but I guess thats due to a closer and immediate team that they watch every 2 to 3 days. Youre going to have stronger bias. Nonetheless, other Canadians are gonna call dirty plays. A good example is Scheifeles hit on Evans, some Jets fans defended that but all other Jets fans and Canadians called him out. On an international hockey stage, you want your team to represent the best values of your country, so its going to be easier to call it out. Especially us Canadians because we hold this sport so highly. We should be showcasing our skill and not dirty plays like Veleno

The first canada goal is a shame for this sport. Instead of getting a Power Play for them they should have gotten a power play against them. Kicking Niederreiter with the blade and just seconds later ackting a beshamed dive like this is just poor and weak. Such a Loser Nr. 90. Apperantly, Canada can't win anymore against Switzerland.

Its so insane that this doesnt hurt the swizz player at all 2:30 . Thx for the super protection theses Playes have. I know its a rough sport with a lot of fighting where things get personal and thats all fine as long as they at least keep some rules but dam this was a attack with a razor sharp edge actively used to cut/break a part of the leg. And maybe he dident used full force but imagine the protection wouldnt have been there. Kanada is a great Ice hockey nation but thats a bit too much of a fight. Btw. How could 4 refs. + cameras have overlook that hit. 🙄

That is just criminal! I don't want to meet such a person on the street. I am a big Canadian fan, not only in hockey, but I don't know what you think about such actions. Imagine somebody tries to amputate your feet with a big knife. I am not sure were you come from, but in most civilised countries, you get jailed for years if you do that on the street. There is no excuse that is hockey. A lifetime suspension should be no discussion. Such persons should be charged with a crime for such an action. The IIHF and many hockey leagues have not arrived in the 21st century. Old systems and old processes. Why are there no video referees with the power to intervene!? Furthermore, the player is a side product of the NHL which does not charge so many nasty actions. If the Canadian team has any dignity, it suspends the player forever.

as a Canadian who grew up during the 2000s and early 2010s (graduate HS in 2014 after five years i took a victory lap) its honestly nice to see the smaller European countries FINALLY be competitive. I grew up in the era of Canada vs Switzerland being an easy 10-1 10-0 Canadian beat down as usually the only European countries to give Canada a challenge were Russia Sweden and sometimes Finland depending on the year.

The sad thing is yeah we won but we always crumble when it actually counts. Especially against Germany....Canada is a way better team but recently we at least had a chance most times.. against Germany tough I just know we will fuck it up. Difficult to see us ever winning anything even when we improved massiively in the last ten years.

There is so much to like about Joe Veleno. He's a hard-nosed workhorse that makes the players around him better. The fleet-footed center is unselfish and will primarily look to make a play at top speed; however, when the chance arises to put it in the pot himself, he will capitalize. He sees the ice well and is rarely caught out of position. His defensive game is refined and he actively pursues puck control. Transitioning to offence is natural, smooth, and quick. All-in-all, a well-rounded two-way forward that skates well and can be the catalyst a team needs to turn a game in its favor. If he can find the consistency in refusing to let himself get taken out of plays, especially if he doesn't start them, he will thrive and exceed expectations. That was dirty and could have been much more devastating than it turned out . No place in hockey for that ! Yes sometimes tempers get the best of people but that was like taking a knife and slicing someone. No doubt he should be punished harshly and a message should be sent. A life time ban might be too harsh since he is young and the other player will be ok . I suppose everybody should be given some kind of a second chance if no significant injury took place. Having said that a 3 to 5 year ban from any pro hockey might be enough. A message has to be sent but does it have to be a life time ban ? Switzerland and Norway both outplayed the Canadians and I cheer for Canada win, lose or draw. Canadian fans are fair fans !

One could say that international sports tournaments and politics should be kept apart, but it would be morally wrong to allow Russia to participate in international sports competitions. Right now, as you know, Russia is waging an illegal war of aggression with indiscriminate bombing of Ukrainian territory, which has been strongly condemned throughout the world through the UN (only a handful of rogue dictatorships support the cause of the Ru regime). It is up to you to understand why your country is not allowed to participate in the world tournament, its not because we hate you. It's Because you and apparently majority of people in your country do not understand why, for example, you are not allowed to participate in this tournament. Do not believe what your government tells you, Ukraine is not Nazis, Ukrainians did not come to your country, did not destroy your city and did not torture your relative. Your country has done it. @@antipindos Maybe after your governemnt pays for the reconstruction of a Ukrainian hockey arena in destroyed Mariupol, after your occupying armed forces leaves and after its demined from FAB bombs and artillery shells. It could be called rememberance Arena of Bombed out Drama Theatre, or arena of Azovstal Hereo defenders.
