Prof. Deepak Kumar is the IPM Chairperson of IIM Ranchi. He is a Ph.D. from IIM Shillong and PGP from IIM Indore. In this video, he shares his message for the aspirants, provides tips for the IPMAT Interview, and highlights the MCM Scholarships and the revamped IPM curriculum.
The chairperson also sheds light on extracurricular activities or gap-year and dismantles the myths of IIM Ranchi's IPM. It is necessary for one's academic to be good, that is the hygiene factor. He wishes all the IPMAT Aspirants his very best and hopes to see you at the interview table!

What to do if no ECAs (during interview)? Having ECAs help, at the same time, you need to understand what good ECAs are: they are the ones that have a barrier to entry, hence online courses where anyone can join is not something that will fetch you the most points, even NGO's certificates don't provide the most amount of authenticity, fundraisers and what not. Even an internship certificate can be gotten from a relatives company. At the same time, mentioning that and being able to back it up by answers would help, and is better than leaving it blank. National or State Sports (rarer) shines a lot more because it shows dedication and consistency. It occurs under SGFI or other authorised boards which provides credibility. Similarly for literary contests to an extent. If you have them, well and good. However, at the end of the day, it's the people with a good personality, who were charismatic and knowledgable in the interview get the call. (Recall the example of LDMU and potato -- which also shows presence of mind). Being unique and standing out amongst the crowd by your hobbies, interests and knowledge helps. But what helps the most? Good academic knowledge! If you don't have any ECAs, not even school leadership positions, try connecting hobbies with academics (during the interview): 1. Fibonacci Series in Maths & your interest in Photography 2. Sequences and Series and your understanding in iterative loops in programming 3. 3D graphs and how you learnt it in middle school itself due to you learning game development. These are just few examples, I hope this helps.

My Key learnings from video 1) currently only focus on exam preparation(don't be stressed about EC's and don't be afraid by seeing others achievements).....it's pretty normal. 2)Boards marks matter but during interview our presence of mind and temperament can be the game changer(if we have not so good score) 3)And most important,Practice AfterBoards mocks and sectionals💥

The video is amazing. But, I still have doubts about my extracurriculars, cause I didn't receive an official certificate for what I have done(volunteered at a dog rescue/shelter and headed a club in my school with about 30 kids)..so should I mention it, or skip it?

Would having no extra curricular activities during our 11th and 12th grades effect our general file? I have been very active in many different things till my 12th grade (sports, leadership roles at school, competitions etc.), but in the last two years have focused solely on my studies. 1. Interview calls go to top ~600 students who've cleared the IPMAT 2024 cutoff. 2. Final calls are based on exam+interview+boards+diversity.

Yes. All the interviews for IIMs occur in English. Being able to hold a conversation is mandatory as all classes and exams would also be held in English.

hi quick question! did you (or your fellow batchmates) do self preparation for the ipmat exams or did you join any coaching? will self preparation suffice? and if not can you recommend a few coachings? I looked up a few online but half of them have extremely mixed reviews and the other half are promoted and therefore are a bit sugarcoated also love the content you're providing us! 🫶🏻
