I’ve had mine for a year now and used 150+ times during trip around Australia. Overall, love the iKamper and no regrets. Three improvements I would love for next version would be 1. Mattress that reduces condensation. On a cold night, the metal floor and condensation make for a freezing night. 2. Canvas catches water in heavy rain. When you leave tent, pool of water runs down onto your back. 3. More storage. I get why its slim, however room for blow-up pillow and sleeping bag needed. Again, really like the tent but the condensation is a major issue.

The cultural explanation is super interesting! It's so true that not all countries sleep on extra soft mattresses! I've been accustomed to my super-extra comfortable mattress, so buying this tent would necessitate an additional memory foam topper, but not a big deal.

I've been using an ExPed double as my daily mattress at home. It's been close to a year and haven't needed to get a reg mattress yet. I do have to pump up the mattress a little every 3 months, but other than that, it's def. great quality.

Right now I have an older arb roof top tent I bought used and being little brough around the edges it actually works very well still. I have an older rig but will be updating most if it and soon new rooftop tent will be one. Not sure which one yet. This one I seen on another KZfaq and it's very nice. Most everything else is going to be basic items I need to overland. Thank you Edwin for your videos

This tent is #1 on my list but I know that as soon as I buy one (and they are expensive) they will come up with one that includes a better mattress. I am also concerned about the very limited ability to keep sleeping items in the tent. They need to make them so that one can store all of the sleeping bags and pillows in the tent when it is closed.

Enjoyed the video and your comments very much. Thank you. I am in the market for a rtt. I have a low rise truck bed rack on my Honda Ridgeline 2021. Question for you, I noticed that the length of the IKAMPER is larger than the length of your truck bed.1) What is the distance between the cross bars supporting the tent? 2) Do you have any issues with the rtt extending over the length of the truck bed?. Thank you for your time.

I like the iKamper, but feel that for $3900, there should be no issue with the mattress. All aspects of sleep should be near perfect. Truly, with Smittybilt from $1000-1200, Raptor Offroad Voyager at $900, and Body Armor Skyridge Pike 2 at $800... all rooftop tents, all found with a quick google of "low cost rooftop tents". Great job, Edward. I think they chose you because you come off honest, athletic, and a solid overlander/camper/etc person with a wonderful and supportive family that is looking for quality in the products he uses. peace

Been loving your review videos of the ikamper, but I'm curious of you've looked at the Roofnest Condor XL. It is about 1k less expensive, if you upgrade the ikamper to the rocky black color. It comes with several accessories the ikamper charges for, has a thicker bed. But, I'm not a fan of the latches, the ikamper has great new locking latches. And the new mounting hardware. Would love to know what you think, almost no videos out there on it, aside from a great walk through from the company. Thanks

Great review! I'm getting ready to start a different chapter in my life, I've been an UL hiker/snowshoeing freak and adventure motorcycle rider for decades but now for my new adventures and being in my early 50s I'm deciding to do more overland camping! I just purchased a new Toyota Tacoma and now ready to buy once cry once on a rooftop tent... I've decided to go with a closed shell style rather than a CVT Canvas covering style... How exciting and how nurve racking trying to find reviews on real life reviews... I'm close to narrowing it down to this manufacturer! But I'm open to suggestions!!

Great comprehensive 6 month review of the iKamper. Advantages and disadvantages over your old CVT? Everyone around this region appear to hauling Tepuis and Yakima’s.
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
ricecowboy definitely faster to setup and break down compared to the cvt soft shell tent, but they now have hard shell tents so that is moot. The iKamper design allows for the benefit of a hard shell in terms of quick deployment and stow away, but also has the benefit of a soft shell tent’s spacious floor plan. Aside from that, I really love both tents

Thanks for posting these. I'm thinking of getting one, but concerned about over hang on my short bed. The racks that look like they'll work best are short when it comes to cab clearance, so I'm looking at 2 feet of overhang off the back
@lifescansdarkly
@lifescansdarkly 2 жыл бұрын
I've been looking into this as well, it looks like the Tundra he's driving has a 5'9" bed for reference if that helps. I'm looking at a Ram with a 6'4" bed so overhang shouldn't be as much of an issue. If you've got a 2' overhang you might want to look into a taller rack so it can clear the cab.

Thanks for the great review! I’m wondering how you deal with muddy shoes, wet gear, and such when you are camping with the skycamper. Usually I leave these items in a vestibule but the skycamper doesn’t have this and I don’t think it’s worth the 700$ annex just to solve this need.

Awesome video, man. Really fascinated by the cultural differences that affect design - excellent information. What is the bed length on your Tundra? Have you had any trouble with the tent overhang, aside from the odd aesthetics of it? Thanks for your awesome content, Edward! Keep it up.
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
@spliffin thanks! The tundra bed length is about 5.5 feet. The issue I’d notice from the overhang was just being careful not to put too much weight on that side of the tent when we are camping . It also made it slightly harder to get into the truck bed to move totes

Ed, thanks for doing this awesome review. I just ordered an iKamper Skycamp 2.0 and have a quick question for you. Did you ever run into a scenario where you ran into high winds that exceeded 20-30 MPH, and if so what was your experience? I am asking because I plan on doing a lot of Colorado high mountain off-highway road camping and I am sure I am going to run into this issue. I know they wind tested this tent to something like 44MPH, but only concern when I made the decision to buy this tent was the recommended max wind rating of 20MPH; which seemed a bit low.

Great review Edward! I wanted to ask you how you dry your tent out with winter camping. I have been seriously considering this tent and have been watching every review I can on it. At $3500 my main concern is protecting my investment. Can you give me any tips on how you dry your tent out after it has been covered in snow or out in the rain. Do you have a given amount of time before you need to dry it out?
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Christopher Karam you definitely want to dry it out as soon as possible after a trip, I’ve gone as long as 3 days before drying, which seems fine depending on your location, but I would look for a covered space to dry it out. It will take longer than drying it out in direct sunlight though. If you don’t have access to covered space, you may want to look at alternatives

az ak I’m not sure, but I think vertical storage can potentially damage the structure of the tent

Thank you for the review! Makes me happy that I got one used at half the cost. True about the culture in Korea. I remember when I visited my uncle there and my bed was a blanket on the hard wood floor. It took some getting use to. One question. Does your exped fit in the tent when closed up? or do you pack that up every time?

Dan Champ I packed it away every time . I know some people replace the factory mattress and leave the exped inside deflated
Why I switched from the iKamper to the Roofnest Falcon XL
