I'm so sad. Tina we love you. An amazing woman who was rejected by her parents, picked cotton, one of her sisters died with her cousin in a car crash, decades of abuse with Ike, left without a penny and became a superstar. Tina you will never be forgetten ever we love you RIP my love !!

Tina was the product of blues, R&B and Rock traditions, predominately African American, of the Southern U.S. Her sound is known throughout the world but it's easy to forget it originated in a very specific time and place. As a white American whose eyes are wide open to the political challenges our country faces, and to the messages of division the Republican party is sending to the world, at least I can be proud of our culture -- primarily our musical culture -- still influencing the world. American music and its derivatives are a world treasure.
