IKEA Business Model | Case Study | How IKEA earns? | Complete Story
Ingvar Feodor Kamprad was born on 30 March 1926, on a small farm called Elmtaryd near the village of Agunnaryd, in the Swedish province of Småland. To most present-day Swedes, the date and the names, in a famously rural region, resound of harsher times, when Sweden was agrarian and poor. They speak of hard work, frugality and egalitarianism rooted in shared poverty - values which would eventually enter the IKEA ethos.
Kamprad began his career at the age of six, selling matches. When just ten, he criss-crossed the neighbourhood on his bicycle, selling Christmas decorations, fish and pencils.
At 17, in 1943, Kamprad’s father rewarded him with a small sum of money for doing well in school, despite being dyslexic. With it, Ingvar founded a business named IKEA, an abbreviation for Ingvar Kamprad from Elmtaryd, Agunnaryd, his boyhood home.
Two years after starting IKEA, Kamprad began using milk trucks to deliver his goods. In 1947, he started selling furniture made by local manufacturers. By 1955, manufacturers began boycotting IKEA, protesting against Kamprad’s low prices. This forced him to design items in-house.
In that vein, Kamprad unpopularly moved IKEA headquarters from Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1973 to avoid unfavorable business taxes for his growing company. He also moved himself and his family to Switzerland to protest Sweden's increasing taxes. But the corporation is now based in the Netherlands, and Kamprad himself has since returned to Sweden.
Kamprad was also behind the simple, yet revolutionary innovation that is the flat pack. He began selling IKEA products in flat-pack form, from his own warehouses. Thus the basic IKEA concept - simple, affordable flat-pack furniture, designed, distributed and sold in-house - was complete.
The driving idea behind IKEA was, and is, that anyone should be able to afford stylish, modernist furniture. Kamprad felt he was not just cutting costs and making money, but serving the people as well.
Kamprad’s business grew. And grew. IKEA expanded throughout Sweden, to Norway and Denmark, via Germany to continental Europe, and on to the ends of the world. When IKEA opened in Shanghai, 80,000 people visited the store. Today, there are over 300 IKEA stores in the world - in 38 countries. All this time, Kamprad has never borrowed money or issued a stock.
Anecdotes about Kamprad abound. When his father complained that Ingvar slept late in the morning, Ingvar got himself an alarm clock, set it for six o’clock, and yanked away the off button. According to Kamprad, we should all divide our lives ‘into 10-minute units, and sacrifice as few of them as possible in meaningless activity.’

@@aliasger4402 no the thing is whenever there is change everyone opposes thats how human behaviour is, even when computers were introduced there were groups who wanted it banned look the current situation India generates hell lot of money from IT. SO embrace change, and act rather than opposing every shittiest of things. Or lastly imagine if you own ikea do you want your investment to be in choke hold inthe pittyful hands of the local traders, who can anytime hike their rates go on and shut and ban and do whatever they need, destroy your property and shove caste based quotas and shit HELL NO ! And if am not wrong you must also be in furniture business somehow related to it.

I saw IKEA mall for the first time when I Went to Dubai. I was literally shocked when I saw the furniture's for the first time they were so well designed And also very cheap as compared to other brands. Maybe in near future it might also capture the Indian Market very soon if they are able to produce cost effective products. But, I doubt that only Rich people can afford their products since it's a multinational company they will also have to give tax to government. In Tier 2 cities like Guwahati, Lucknow and all only the ones with more money would be able to afford it. Where's in Metro cities the Ratio of Riches are more so the buyers will be more. Even thought they are claiming that they will produce cheap products but I doubt because of economic factors of India. But one thing I am sure that they will be successfull to create a status symbol for sure in Indian Market 😅😅

I am big fan of yours. I am watching your all videos on KZfaq and learn so many new way of doing business. Sir, make case study on optics shop in mega city or tear 2 city in india. I wont to share my experience. (mail may be long i won't you cover all topic base on my experience). I am 37 year old and my brother child is 15 year old. She ware spacks from last 5 years. We make all spacks in mumbai malad area. All time spacks rate are high as compare to last buy. But kya kare bache he immediately spacks lena padta hai.. So share some experience with you. Last month i visited 3 shop in our area. But there is no cleanliness in shop, there is no proper price tage on frame, glass and fiber price information different shop to shop. After check the number. We select the frame. (i know the basic price of manufacturer of frame). In our business complex there is 2 frame manufacturers, operating in 30% profit. But shop owner charge me 600% high then original price. And with fiber glass final cost is 1200/- but kya kare sab shop per eske aas pas ke rate hai so price dena pada. I ware spake from 1999 and only 3 spacks make in mumbai. (bcoz i don't think so it's better price for me). So i always try to make spacks from my village city. It's in tear 3 category. Now share my experiences. Shop owner have there own bike, car, home and shop. And shop is small as compare to Mumbai shop. But so much frame variety, price tag on each frame, so much fiber and glass variety, automatic eye testing machine and manual testing kit. And he charge me always affordable. Freamless spacks from 350/- on words. With primium quality of fiber glass with antiglare cotting. I ware more then 13 spacks uptill from his shop all spacks quality are very good as compare to mumbai shop. That shop owner purchase frames and glasses from mumbai. He told me my quality it's my service. I am good in spacks making. So why i should charge more an more to clients. (I remember Punjab visa boy case study of your's). Then why maga city shop owners not understand the opportunity in there feild. That's why lenskart and titan eye running there shop successfully. Bcoz shop owners crates opportunities for lenskart. And shop owner lossing there clients. Make case study on the above topic. For better understanding to shop owners.
