Small ideas are about finding and using hidden spaces and choosing furniture that does more than one thing. It's about being creative, a little rebellious and doing what you dream about no matter how much or how little space you have. And we think that is a pretty big idea.

I shared a room with two sisters until I was 23. I went to college locally and instead of spending my cash on the nasty-assed dorm shacked up with some stranger, I stayed at home and spent my money on other things. It wasn't bad at all. Our house was 900sq ft. and while it felt cramped sometimes with five people, it was manageable. I think being forced to share made me more patient, humble and thankful for what I have now.

I don't understand why some posts are so negative about this video. Renting an apartment becomes more and more expensive and you might be forced to move to flats with less room. I think this is a great video to tell people that they still can make cosy place for themselves, even if they live on 50 or 60 sqm with 3 or 4 people

+voyerista who says that this is supposed to be for your every-day-life? It's just an idea, what you make out of it is your own thing. This could be interesting for people that run hostels or camping sites. Places where people don't stay too long

the answer to rent is simple.don't rent and instead buy since it's cheaper to buy a house then rent an apartment.

Yeah, I've been in quite a few hostels that had a similar arrangement. The curtains drawn make the bed space very cozy!
@AceAngelTTV
@AceAngelTTV 4 жыл бұрын
I''ve never seen a hostel with curtains on beds, infact they straight up ban the use of bedsheets as makeshift curtains.. Not sure why, maybe its health and safety regulations or something? The only way I could see this working permanently is if there was stairs rather than ladders (with storage built into the stairs) between the bunks- More like lofts, not even connected to the bottom bunks, so you don't shake the person above/below you when you get into bed/have sex. And instead of curtains maybe sliding doors/windows, like three segments so you can slide them all to one side to open it up to air it out during the day, but have actual privacy for GETTING IT ON etc.. Also these looks like singles? They would have to be doubles if this was permanent, at least for the top bunk, it doesn't even increase the floor space used if its top bunk, if it's above head height.. And with the height of those ceilings I have no idea why the bunks are so low.

Love the ideas. We have to use so many different sources and information when asked to work on smaller properties. One area we find that's usually forgotten and under utilized is the space below the staircase. If you can open that area up and re support it with well calculated supports, you can open up a big wasted area and star using it for lots of things. Small office, storage etc.

I don't mind some of the Ikea furniture, but I don't like the Ikea idea of cramming everything you have (ever gathered) into a tiny home. I did this for some time and never got to keeping it tidy. And true to the Ikea idea I was constantly planning to buy more "storage units" - boxes, shelves, bigger boxes, smaller shelves, moveable shelves, shelves on wheels, a chair to stack the books that couldn't be jammed into those shelves... And then I read about minimalism. My space was already tiny by the standards of other people my age, and I am still decluttering, but within two years I moved about 1/3 of my appartment (books, clothes etc.) and it_is_still crammed! Thing is, I need a lot of time to decide what has to leave, so that I do not go and rebuy it six months later (this has happened...). Fact is also, I still have a lot of "dark corners" where I keep things I cannot even name off the cuff. And when I try to empty them, memories come back and I have a hard time letting them go. The solution - for everyone who needs to move now and then or does not have a house of abundant space - really cannot be to buy another shelf, another box, another cupboard to "put it away"; the solution should be to know where everything you want to use is and how to get it - not by first emptying the front of the drawer of getting the ladder from the basement - and still having so much space that you don't feel shut in. The Ikea rooms - the ones on display at the stores - are nice until you start to imagine a solid wall where you enter. Then think: A one-room-appartment with a coffeetable at the center of the room. If you want space - exercise, work on the floor, tidy up and put some things temporarily somewhere - there will be none. You'd have to heap the coffee table onto the sofa, do your thing, and remove the coffee table again. You'll start to hate that coffee table and spend more and more time outside your home until you get rid of that coffee table and either learn to do without or buy a foldable table - that probably someday will be in your way again... First watch videos on minimalism, then declutter, then think about decluttering some (big, "obstacle"-) furniture, and only then start thinking about buying storage units, and think hard about how you will use them and if you'd rather have that space they take up.

I've read some of the comments below. Most people seem to be hung up on 1:50 (where six people are living in a small space). However, this works well if you are in a hostel, dorm, or a sort of boot camp. Ikea just made a pretty version of this already-in-use concept. You have to remember that typically in these spaces, the people that are there, are not there for that long, and are inclined to be conscientious/courteous.

Cost differ depending on what you buy. But if you want storagespace Id suggest that you look for cupboards that you can hang on the wall. Find the ultimate space for your large items fist, like your bed or the table, then make use of the surface on the walls and floor by putting cupboards there for storage. Also, does your table need to be out all the time? Maybe you can make it fold from the wall, and have a few stackable chairs under it. Depending on how many will be seated. Good luck :)
