Ikram can strike with punches, elbows, flying knee's, head kicks etc. plus can wrestle and can grapple as he has some belts in sambo, with judo and dagestani wrestling . Islam's striking is not that good. I'd love to see him not try and take down people just once and let's see what happens.

I ve been watching combat sports for 20 plus years, fighters that throw more straight punches seem to hit the target more often than those who throw looping punches. Example Izzy ,Da Spider, GSP Etc. Ikram likes straight punches look at the phil hawes fight same thing!

Nice insight and 100% agree. Looping punches are more than likely telegraphed, especially when fatigue sets in, as well as require the fighters to be in the pocket, which is not often. The straight is great for volume, though has much less power. Strickland is a great example of using straights, and ddp is a great example of throwing looping punches.

@@flipsum555 That is 100% correct, and you are not wrong, I am just looking at it from a different perspective, because there are a lot of factors that goes into it from a kinetics standpoint. As you said, the Leg drive and foot positioning (for torque) is very important in punches, to facilitate energy transfer from the lower body to upper limbs, and studies showed that all else equal, among several participants the punching velocity was higher during the hook, than to a straight. This is because there is more biomechanical contribution in the execution of the hook, than the straight, enabling it to have the potential to be more powerful. This obviously has its limitations and there is variability in real fights, but if both are thrown as hard, the hook from what I know, is more “powerful”.

Ikram is a great fighter, HOWEVER, he sometimes struggles to have conviction in his skills. He is also clumsy from time to time falling over or stumbling from thrown shots that miss. He also may be slightly intimidated and will be very cautious stepping with Whittaker especially with all his experience with the highest echelon of fighters. Tough fight to call, this is MMA so it can go either way, fan of both good luck to them
