Aikido master Saito Sensei, has been described as "a teachers teacher", his systematic approach giving a sound basis for the principles needed by aikidoists and those teaching it. In this clip he states that one should first practice without power to get the form or body positioning correct. If you try learning these moves with power added at the beginning, you will never master the correct form. The same is true of "flowing versions". If you try practice flowing the techniques before you have the body postioning and angles correct, your opponent will be able to stop you when they apply any strength.
