The IL-114 is a turboprop passenger airliner, created in the Ilyushin Design Bureau in the late 1980s. The aircraft was certified and produced in small series at the Tashkent aircraft factory until 2012.
The IL-114-300 is an updated version of the basic IL-114, created as part of the program to resume production of the aircraft in Russia. Modernization touched structural elements, power plant, control systems and interior. It assumes occupying the niche of airliners of local and regional transportation one step below the SSJ 100 jet.

Thank you Sky. I am a fan. It seems that the Ilyushin design managers could not make up their mind on the product design. We know that ILYUSHIN knows how to to design are aircraft . For example IL 62 , unsurpassed in its own class, even some 60 years ago. Plus the name ILYUSHIN is such a nice sounding name, at least to me. Please give them my message to ILYUSHIN managers: '' Dear product managers, please make up your mind and create something perfect, like IL 62''. The Engineers , in any country , produce what managers ask for it. ... California.

speaking of Russian commercial aircraft like the Il-114-300 regional turboprop airliner, there's another Russian aircraft that deserves special mention . . . and that being the Ilyushin Il-76MF-90A multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft, which is a stretched variant of the Il-76MD multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft . . . the stretched Il-76MF-90A airframe would incorporate new turbofan engines, advanced composite fuselage & wing structures, airframe reinforcements, next gen fly-by-wire flight controls, full glass cockpit & new avionics etc . . . only one Il-76MF-90A multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft was ever sold, to the Royal Jordanian Airlines sometime in 2000 . . . the stretched Il-76MF-90A variant had double the payload capacity of the Il-76MD-90A & 63% greater range . . . and that too without the luxury of mid-air refuelling . . . Ilyushin should launch the Ilyushin Il-76MF-90A multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft once again, in current day market . . . it'll compete with the likes of C-17A Globemaster III multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft & AIRBUS A400M multi mission heavy lift transport aircraft . . . or the Kawasaki C-2B multi mission medium transport aircraft for that matter . . .

Skyships, a 1980s resurgence of turboprops designed in the 1950s. I completely missed this happening. I remember the HS 748 which was a feeder liner with STOL properties then in the 1980s the SAAB and De Haviland Canada (Canada De Haviland not de Haviland?) later the ATR and BAE ATP but beyond the HS 748 a 1950s designed turboprop prevalent in the 1950s. As stated, the HS 748 was more a feeder liner than a regional airliner. You are most probably right Skyships, I just can't quite understand the stories beginning? As an westerner, i see the Il-114 as a pretty "boring", common aircraft, unlike the disruptive, innovative, sometimes strange soviet airlines concept. And all this "boringness", this "commoness", seems to be the savior of the airline, that makes it a rather modern and common airplane with relatively little changes on project.

These Russian engines on IL 114-300 can further be improved. The propeller engine installed on Russian bombers Tu-95 are the best though it may not be fuel efficient but it is reliable and robust further Russia have plenty of fuel in other words Russian fuel is affordable this will make the project feasible. Russia should consider installing Tu 160 type propeller engines because of its reliability and at hard times when Russia is facing sanctions jeopardizing the new projects. This also reduces dependency on foreign suppliers of engine components.

@@md8590 Time will tell. The challenge isn't a lack of skill and intelligence. The challenge is that Russia was never able to catch up in semiconductor production and became totally dependent on outside sourses. Add to that the the brain drain following the invasion. To complete an avionics suite the Russians will build it with obsolete technologies. They'll get it done as they always do but it will be an inefficient and obsolete aircraft from a western standpoint from the moment it rolls off the line. It will be used within Russia but won't be competitive elsewhere.

AA country like Russsia does and should have the knowledge and resources to design and build an all Russian aircraft, as has been done in the past. Yes, there was a time where it was seductive to use American engines and avionics, but that does not mean Russia could not again develop this components their selve.
