Il documentario narra del torrente san Francesco che attraversa la città di Sanremo. Coperto nel suo tratto urbano da quasi due secoli, il corso d'acqua costeggia la base della "Pigna", il centro storico della città più nota e popolosa del Ponente ligure. A mano a mano che un gruppo di speleologi esplora l'alveo del torrente si scoprono momenti di vita del quartiere che, in questi ultimi anni, è profondamente mutato."Il torrente nascosto" diviene così un filo d'Arianna che compare in diversi momenti del filmato, la testimonianza di una nuova realtà sociale formata, oltre che dai vecchi abitanti del quartiere, anche da numerosi extracomunitari. La presenza nella Pigna dei "nuovi italiani" influisce oggi in modo determinante sull'equilibrio socio - economico del borgo. In una città come Sanremo, luogo di soggiorno preferito dagli anziani, il documentario è dunque la metafora di una comunità indubbiamente problematica, ma dotata di stimolanti valori culturali, di giovinezza e vigore.
The documentary tells the story of St. Francis river that crosses the city of Sanremo. Covered in its urban stretch for almost two centuries, the river runs along the base of the "Pigna", the historical center of the city best known and most populous of western Liguria.
