Taxpayers pay for other people's stuff all the time. That's the point of taxes. I would've liked some of that PPP money that was handed out to businesses that didn't need it and to scammers. Also, if he paid off his student loans at 44, I'm guessing that some of it was forgiven because he hit the 20 year repayment mark. If it takes a TV anchor on a major network until age 44 to pay off student loans, how long is it going to take the average person?

Everyone has a different idea of how taxes should be used. Nothing new here. I paid off my student loans in full and am glad I don't have to pay for others. But I would want to hear a fix to make education cheaper so you don't have to pay off gigantic loans, which I think that's why community colleges exist.

@@dynapl I agree that the real issue is the cost of higher education. If tuition rates weren't so high, then people wouldn't have such hefty student loans, especially when they get degrees past a bachelor's.

Most of us in IL do not mind paying higher taxes because it insures we have safe roads and bridges, well paid hard working employees that serve the people of this great state, and free high quality healthcare with medicaid for our children and immigrants. We are proud that we are in a fortunate position to give decent raises in pay and pension benefits to our most loyal citizens when those in the private sector do with much less or pay cuts. This Governor has our interests in his heart at all times.
