(And if Austria didn't join the partitions, Russia & Prussia would still destroy Poland.) It was actually partially the fault of your nobles back then, who made your military weak in the mid-18th century. Austria & Prussia alone had 4 times bigger armies, now add Russia with an 8 times bigger army, then you know Poland was in a hopeless decline. Also, Austria was the only occupant who respected Polish culture & language, Russia & Prussia on the other hand had harsh Russification & Germanization policies, trying to remove Polish language. Now imagine Austria simply just stayed out from the partitions, would Polish language still survive under those harsh Russification & Germanization policies?!

That was a couple of years before, and that was his actual funeral. He was 91, if I recall. This was the 100th anniversary of the death of Kaiser Franz Josef.

For about 600 years that flag and anthem symbolized a Habsburg family that held all of Europe in the palm of its hand. From the 1200s until the 1800s, the House of Austria was the most powerful in Europe, at its peak around 1500 encompassing the entirety of the Holy Roman and Spanish Empires, in addition to Austria itself which at the time was huge and extended through the Balkans to the Cartpathians. In the early 1500s, the Habsburgs had not only Europe in the palm of their hand but the entire world

Yes! And the coolest custom of all is Spanish. When the Marcha Real is played on pilgrimages in Asturias, the Last Bastion of the Reconquista, all flags are turned upside down, a symbol of surrender in battle, in acknowledgement of the ultimate sovereignty of Christ the King at his Second Coming.

That is wrong however. Even up to now the vast majority of the austrian citizens are "of german blood" .Saying "I am Austrian "means nothing more that the person which says so is citizen of Austria. Nowadays the most Germans live in the so called Federal Republic of Germany .....and in Austria.

@@lukashalac4727 Das ist Unsinn. Zu dieser Zeit, als das Lied kombiniert wurde, war eine eindeutige Unterscheidung der deutschen Staaten garnicht möglich beziehungsweise nutzlos. Es gab da weder ein Deutschland noch in diesem Sinne ein Österreich, sondern nur verschiedene deutschsprachige Länder. In dieser Zeit hätte man auch von Österreich mit gleichem Recht oder Unrecht von Deutschland sprechen können, wie von Preußen, Schwaben oder Schleswig. Es ist daher keine österreichische Hymne, gleichwie es keine deutsche Hymne ist. Sie entstammt einer herrlich uneindeutigen Zeit vor dem Nationalismus, als der Bauer aus Friesland mehr mit dem Tiroler Bauer gemeinsam hatte, also der Österreichische Adelige mit dem gleichen Tiroler Bauer. Allein die Idee der Nation war da noch so neu, man hatte sie rheinrechtsseitig noch garnicht verstanden. Die Diskussion darüber, ob das nun eine österreichische oder deutsche Hymne ist, ist in etwa so unsinnig, wie der Streit ob Mozart deutsch oder österreichisch war. Kurz: es gab weder das eine noch das andere. Nur aus rückwirkender Sicht kann man von Nationalität sprechen. Die damals lebenden Menschen hätten auf die Frage, welcher Nationalität sie sind nur mit den Achseln gezuckt und gefragt ,was das heißen soll.

@@HarionDafar der Tiroler Bergbauer hätte sich als Tiroler und Katholik definiert, deshalb sind sie auch gegen die bayrische und französische Besetzung aufgestanden. Das Tiroler Landlibell gestand den Tirolern das Recht zu, nur zum Militärdienst zu müssen, wenn Tirol selber angegriffen wird, die Säkularisierung durch die bayrischen Behörden war in den Augen der meist tief gläubigen Tiroler Teufelswerk.

The one thing that the enemy has been successful at is convincing Modern Europeans, Americans and others that Monarchy or Absolute Rule is "evil" and "oppressive" compared to democracies. Before WW2, most countries in the world were Democracies, even though WW1 brought several Empires to their knees. But today over 60% of the world's governments are democracies and the rest are only Quasi-monarchies or some other strange arrangement for the most part, with a few exceptions. What people forget is that the social ills created under democracies ALWAYS lead to the most oppressive and dangerous form of society leading to Anarchy and the worst form of a dictatorship that usually follows. All democracies are very short-lived.

Ich liebe Österreich! Ich lebe in der Argentinischen Republik. Mein Urgroßvater kam mit seiner Familie aus der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie. 1915 kehrte er nach Österreich zurück, um im Ersten Weltkrieg zu kämpfen. Er ist nie zurückgekommen. Ich schreibe dies in seiner Erinnerung.

der Niederösterreicher JOSEPH Haydn schuf nach dem kroatischen Volkslied das Kaiserquartett, später die Volkshymne. Kroatien war ein österr.Kronland. Die deutsche Nationalhymne ein kroatisches Volkslied . ist doch interessant. Die DDR-Hymne war auch von einem Österreicher

Sublime! I was in Vienna for the funeral of the Crown Prince, Otto a few years before this. What amazed me as a visiting American was when it came time for the old imperial anthem, the Kaiserhymne, and everyone around me knew the words and sang along. This is despite the fact that this is no longer the Austrian national anthem. When I hear it, I can’t help but recall that glorious funeral, a glimpse back into Europe united in the one Catholic faith!

Also ich find das toll und absolut identisch.. Geschichtlich einfach super.. Da kann ich mich einfach hineinfühlen in die Geschichte.. hinein ins Kaiserreich und was bitte ist daran so verwerflich? Man darf doch jetzt nicht die gesamte Geschichte eines Landes verfluchen oder? So war das damals und so hat man damals danach gelebt.. Deswegen weiß man doch Heutzutage trotzdem dass die Zeiten sich gewandelt haben.. Jede Zeit hat ihre Geschichte und wir sollten uns nicht schämen den Zeitgeist einer Geschichte nach zu empfinden.. Also ich finde das Heute irgendwie alles so übertrieben. Wir müssen doch irgendwie in die Zeitgeschicht eintuchen dürfen..

Israel and Jews everywhere fondly remember our beloved Franz Josef, who protected the Jews of the Empire from the terrible antisemitism of many. He five times deposed the despicable judenfeinlicher Mayor of Vienna, Karl Lueger, after his antisemitic party won elections (the fifth time the Church intervened against the Kaiser). If there were a new Austro-Hungarian entity, whether a republic or a constitutional monarchy, it would certainly find its strongest friend and ally here in Israel. They are already, after all, our best friends in Europe.
