Spanish and Chavacano should have co-official language status in the Philippines so that its government will be compelled to preserve and promote them in the entire education system at all levels from preschool to college.

No. We don't even speak Spanish. While Chavacano is limited to a tiny areas in one province in the North and in the deep south. It's not a widely spoken language at all. We are nothing like the Mexicans. Our culture is more similar to our neighbors.

The Mexicans in the comments should stop being bitter by the fact that hispanicization of the Philippines were not as thorough as that of modern day Mexico and instead focus more on revitalizing and supporting their non-hispanic heritage. Go learn Nahuatl or Zapotec and stop spreading 'You guys are los mexicanos del Orient' doctrine.

I like how chavacano sounds even though I think that it is rotten Spanish. Creoles is a result of bad colonial practice to make people speak colonizers language
@ElHeraldoHispano
@ElHeraldoHispano Жыл бұрын
Even Spanish itself is "rotten" Latin. That's a result of pressuring the locals to speak a language different from theirs. Obviously, the locals' way to speak that language isn't impeccable as a native speaker would, and it is reasonable to think that some traits from their original language would remain in the way they speak the lenguage imposed. That, my friend, is called a linguistic substratum, and Spanish does have some from languages such as Basque. Spanish, believe it or not, has a lot of phonetic influence from Basque and other Paleohispanic languages.
@elvyn8709
@elvyn8709 Жыл бұрын
@@ElHeraldoHispano At least Spanish is not "rotten" as unphonetic languages like French, Portuguese (partial phonetic because too much vowel reduction) and English.
@ElHeraldoHispano
@ElHeraldoHispano Жыл бұрын
@@elvyn8709 I'm not saying such thing lol, hence I enclosed the word "rotten" in quotation marks, since I consider it inappropiate. Every language has been "distorted" in some way, including Spanish. I didn't mean to refer to Spanish as an "abomination" with the word "rotten", but only that it diverged from Latin. Actually, as a native Spanish speaker, I am more than thankful that my language is pronounced in the same way as it is written (at least in the Peninsular dialect, which is the one I speak) unlike French or English, for instance.
@Omouja
@Omouja Жыл бұрын
@@elvyn8709 to be a phonetic language is not that difficult at all, is just make a big orthographic reform and that is. That's not a thing that is unic to Spanish for been a "phonetic" language, and that's not even 100% truth, since ll, v, j, y, x, z, h, gu, qu is not that phonetic correct at all
@Ama94947
@Ama94947 11 ай бұрын
No i dont agree, its just a result of the Latin American immigration, and the few Spaniard in The Philippines during colonial time, especially in Zamboanga where there where peruvians as well and colonial Mexicans so thats why Chavacano also has some Native American words, But even in Tagalog are some of those.
