First I was sceptic about the film. I lived during that times in the village and didn't see the cruelty of the period. But my husband confirmed that he witnessed a lot of fights and poverty. While watching I cried. I want to erase my memory and watch it again. So proud of film industry in Russia and actors are great.

Correction - The movie's events are happening in 1989 into the 1990. And this is actually seems like a kids game compare to what will come in 90s. I'm a person who lived through that time and it still make me sick in my stomach to think about that time...

I have decided to watch this serial because I have heard that Ukrainian young generation had watched that already. That was the reason, and I liked it. That is our common past. If even not the young people’s past, but mentality is still the same with us.

Chushpan is a male teenager who is outside the gang, and therefore outside the boy code. He is a target for boys, chushpan could be subjected to violence and money could be extorted from him from time to time. Due to the fact that each boy had to replenish the gang’s treasury (common fund - общак) once a month, such problems were regular for the chushpans. Accordingly, chushpan is a sucker, but for an organized crime group that has created certain concepts in the image of a true “boy”.

Warfare is actually a common thing here in the city streets -- USA. I lived in Chicago, New York and LA and there was always some kind of "gang" thing. I remember reading about the poverty of Russia in the '80s, and I was so surprised. I had several Russians in my university classes (Spain) and Russian faculty in Iowa -- very peaceful and well educated. Konstantin (RR) recommended your channel -- good choice!

I haven't seen this tv show yet, but my father did. And he told me that all in this series was true and really happened, when he was young.

Marat is my favorite character, he turned out to be a decent man after all. I've heard this show was initially filmed for Netflix, but because of war and sanctions, it didn't happen...

One of the best series I have ever seen. The acting, the filming and the harsh reality of the 80-90’s communism neighbourhoods are on spot. This was the reality in most of the Eastern European communism block but especially in Russia. I loved all of the actors, they are truly talented. The series is not for everyone

There is another good series "Бандитский Петербург". The first 3-4 seasons are very interesting. It shows the events of that time very truthfully.

Но это были редкие случаи и такого масштаба как в Казани в СССР нигде больше не было. Не случайно эти события называются "Казанским феноменом". Это произошло из за резкой урбанизации которая длилась с 60-х по 80-е годы. Тогда пол страны переехало из деревень в города. И свои деревенские привычки тоже перенесли в город. В деревнях ходили "стенка на стенку" или "деревня на деревню", это считалось народной забавой. =) Или например ты чужак, то на местную деревенскую дискотеку ( по субботам ) лучше не приходить... )Девчонок не трогали.) Кстати, в 80-е Ню-Йорк тоже был местом не спокойным.

Some poeple don't understand that untill you make yourself believe in brands that made with cyrillics are worthy. Same with production. Most poeple just simply don't watch russian movies. I was that way some time ago. But that time has past and I believe there's more great things to come.

Хороший художественный фильм, по всем законам жанра. Некоторые персонажи - будто писали с одноклассника (Марат-Адидас младший) или с ОКОДовца факультета (Каневич) сразу узнаешь не только в образе, но даже в деталях. Талантливо, несмотря на то, что снимались молодые ребята! Сериал дал возможность ещё раз прожить и пережить то время. Спасибо всему творческому и техническому коллективу за труд!

Kazan it is not area - it’s the city In Russia. The Kazan city is the Capital of Republic of Tatarstan (called Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the USSR) 😊. In nowadays it’s called The Third Capital in Russia, because of Tatar is the second nationality in Russia, and there live mostly Tatar people 😊

I’m actually watching it (a poorly translated version though), IN CHINA! Can you believe it! Though some info are missing but the overall quality of the series is fantastic, kind of reflects my “cruel youth” feels like back in the 90s and early 2000s.

I really enjoyed the series too cuz it brought me to that time i hadn't been and it was really bright, It kind of a history which was forgotten.

Многие не поняли суть сериала. Лично я считаю,что последняя серия сериала много о чем хочет объяснить человеку. И люди должны понять к чему такая жизнь " слово пацана " приведет. Такое время действительно было, и мы просто рассказываем нашу историю,я не вижу этот сериал опасным.

This series is my favorite. Tatarstan-love, Kazan-Rodina. In the series, a group that did not exist at that time is presented as the main one. But it also talks about existing groups. The series itself tells the story of the Kazan phenomenon.

I recently watched "To The Lake," a Russian apocalyptic series about a virus spreading in Moscow, so two wealthy families who live in the suburbs, flee to Karelia to the Lake Ladoga area for safety. Phenomenal series. I've watched it twice in a couple years. I watch a lot of foreign TV using subtitles. It helps me learn a modicum of languages and I enjoy the cultures. The show you are promoting today sort of reminds me of an Italian series "A Sea Beyond," which is about young men in Naples who have lost their way, and end up running gangs in prison. I think the Scandinavians, Finns, Belgians, French, Spanish, Germans, and Poles also do a nice job with crime thrillers. Obviously, the Brits, too. Good to see Russia producing great products. I am watching another Russian series about the Dyatlov Pass -- Dead Mountain. Sometimes it takes me weeks to months to get thru these things, though. Work comes first. By the way, the link doesn't work for me. It could be blocked. I do have a question if someone can answer it. Are the Tatars Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, or do they just consider themselves a Turkic ethnicity of all three countries? I know there is a Republic of Tatarstan within the Russian Federation with Kazan as its capital and Tatar and Russian as its official language. I tend to associate the Tatar people with Russia, but I have read different views on this over the past five or so years. Speciba Bolshoi. Blagosloveniya.

Могу объяснить такую негативную реакцию на этот фильм со стороны части россиян. Все просто: спросила мужа - "давай вместе посмотрим фильм.". Он : "не хочу, я хочу забыть это время, как страшный сон,". Он был на этих сходках, все жёстко, никакой романтики. Фильм очень реалистичен. Может нашим детям интересно " сравнить свою жизнь с тем временем" надеюсь поучительно. Но очень больно это все вспоминать.

Я застал это время, у нас в Нижегородской области в конце 1980-х творилось чëрт знает что. Страшный сериал, потому что многое из него - реальность...
