As a Tesla Model Y owner myself this reasoning doesn't make sense. He can stop in Chattanooga for like 20 minutes and be fine once he gets to Atlanta. Plus, who goes a 4+ hour road trip without having to at least stop to use the bathroom.....
@jamieli308618 күн бұрын
You don't charge to 90-100%. Charging from 30-80% typically takes 15-20 minutes depending if you precondition before you go the charging station. 30%-90/100 could take 30-45 and its designed that way so you don't hog up the charging station.

The rationale for selling this car is kinda weird. He needs to drive 275 miles and can do this on one charge, but needs to charge for 45 minutes once he gets to his destination? As someone who has owned a Model 3 for 5 years/65k miles and has driven a 900 mile route many times over these 5 years, I feel somewhat qualified to make some comments. First, this guy left his house with a full charge, so not only did he pay a whole lot less for this than for a tank of gas, but he avoided the need to drive maybe 10-15 minutes to a gas station and stay there 5 minutes to start his trip. While I understand the need to be able to drive after arriving at the destination and doing the work he does, there are a number of solutions to this problem. First, book a hotel with a destination charger. If that's not possible, then charge the car maybe 50 miles before the destination. The thing is, this doesn't take 45 minutes. A Model Y with a low battery will charge at something between 175 and 250 KW until about 50%. Figure an average charging rate of 200 KW. This means that in 10 minutes a Model Y will add 3.33 kw/minute, or about 13 miles per minute. In 10 minutes the car would have added 130 miles....probably enough to drive around town. Heading back the car would likely be able to go at least 75 miles before needing another 15-20 minute charging session to make it home. Bottom line is that the charging times this guy cites are just way wrong. He should probably try to get the car back.....

The trip is 275 miles yes, my car shows 318 range on full charge but when driving at 75 mph the entire was I arrive with 5% charge. Then I need to charge to 80% to be able to drive around with all I am doing for work there as I drve another 150-200 miles in the 2 days I am there. Once I finish that I have to charge to go home which I will need a full charge to go the whole way or atleast 60-80% to get there with a stop, and that stop usually takes me 30 minutes of charging. I have put 9000 miles on this car in just 3.5 months. Ive tried charging every which way. Im not making up numbers Im sharing my experience. Maybe its driving styles, maybe its charging at crowded chargers but I shared my experience and it hasnt been the best for me. Doesnt mean it cant work in your situation but this is mine on a daily basis and it doesnt make sense for me.

Just stop for 10-15 minutes 2 times. Once on the way down. Once on the way back. Waiting 45 minutes to full is not the way to do it. Only charge to 100% when charging overnight. The slowest charging speed is 80-100%. Only charge to 80% on road trips if possible. You’d save a lot of time. The car would be ready before you are since I assume you need to use the bathroom and take a quick break.

It's still early days so your use case it makes sense and that is why your lease makes a lot of sense. I have 2 Teslas and they make sense for 95 percent ordinary situations. My wife loves her model y too bad yours didn't give it a chance. Would have saved you until the lease is over. Next Gen batteries will charge faster and offer more range but won't be out until next year is my best guess. Good video. Glad to see it not click bait.

Just gotta prepare like an hour earlier before trip and make a charge stop 3/4 way before destination and let it charge back to 100% in that time you could take a small nap and then on way back you only will have to make a small charge stop as you won’t be on full charge on way back. It’s really not as bad as it seems to do if you up and out driving far often. I just am good with time management so it depends on everyone.

Nobody talks about the increased cost of insurance for EV's. There is no net savings
@terrancecloverfield679155 минут бұрын
Don't forget the very likelihood that insurers will total the vehicle instead. So that's gonna be a very quick underwater loan. This is the precise reason why insurers refuses to consider FSD as part of it's vehicle value for insurance estimates. It's an easy inflation and an easy total loss since Tesla won't transfer the FSD.

Thanks for your honesty. Your point about charging is the best argument for not owning an EV. If you own a home and don't need to take road trips, it might be a good option. It's videos like these that have helped educate those who are not early adopters on what real ownership looks like. I researched owning a Tesla because I thought it might be practical option, but the cons out weigh the pros. Good luck selling that in a market that has soften.
