Rear halidex needs a service that's why it's spinning the front there is a mesh filter in the rear unit that never gets cleaned and gets blocked causing the 4wd to struggle

I have a Golf R as well and love it, Few tips 1. Launch control requires Sports Mode + Traction control off (Make sure to hold it for 5 seconds or so, until you see the icon popup) Then foot on brake + foot on accelerator. 2. If front wheels are spinning (and car is stock) Usually indicates the DSG needs a service as it shouldn't really be spinning stock.

Just finished up the Smoking Tire Podcast, amazing timing. I'm glad you made this happen. I was commenting that you should do a DAZA swap in an R since you drove Collete's TTRS. Also, pretty funny coincidence is I was watching Kevin Hannon's videos a couple weeks ago cause he made a tutorial on how to install an OEM accessory subwoofer in my MK7 GTI. His R was also featured on the ShopDAP (popular VW parts shop) channel around the same time. Then just browsing his channel, I saw he was at the Lime Rock track day with you guys and also worked with Innovative Motorsports. These MQB cars have some crazy potential. I'm a JDM guy at heart but I love my GTI. Down the line, I'd love to have a DAZA swapped R, maybe with a manual.

2.5 swapped golf Rs are insane. Makes me happy that VWs are like legos and you can just swap parts around and they somehow work. Looking forward to the swap videos

I’m all for seeing a DAZA swapped Golf R, but I hope you’re prepared for the coding that comes along with it. That’s a major downside to doing swaps on MQB platform cars, is the electronic coding that goes along with it. These aren’t like the Mk4 days. There’s a fella on the forms that just finished his DAZA swap. I’ll see if I can find his info and post it in the reply or edit this comment. Just so you have a point of reference if you end up struggling with anything. Edit**The shops name is Innovative Motorsports, it looks like they’ve done a few of these swaps

i just sold my golf R for an RS3 In order to get into proper launch control, you got to hold the esc button down until you hear a 2nd beep which means all full traction off. Gearbox needs to be in either S mode or S manual. Then you need to press the brake hard in order to activate launch control. Collete's car should be making around 460-480whp and around 620nm.

Launch Control: Traction off all the way. Press and hold for 5 seconds. Auto start stop off, if a feature. Transmission needs to be in manual mode or sport shifting. Drive control needs to by in dynamic or sport. Press the brake to the FLOOR. You will feel the “end stop” of the pedal. Hold the gas down and the screen will tell you “Launch Control Active”

My ‘16 R was fun but the car begs for more suspension adjustment. Ohlins Road and Track coils, SuperPro camber plates, SuperPro positive caster control arms, front and rear sways along with the S3 Audi aluminum subframe completely transformed the car. Was stock turbo Full E85 with methanol on Accessport (which now sucks because of cobbs new green speed update). No idea the power it was making but it ran 11.2 in the quarter.

This is a dream build. Not because I actually would want an RS3 swapped Golf R but having a full parts car to do the ultimate OEM+ swap. I can't really find the words... but its like the ultimate bolt-on build but with OEM parts.

Saw Tommy's announcement on the tst podcast a few hours ago and he's collaborative with a shop near him that specializes in these swaps.

I have a facelift version of the Golf R, for launch u need to put it in race. Press and hold the traction till its off. Push the brake in give 10% throttle untill it says launch ready and then press the gass fully in and release the brake

I'm a huge JDM guy from Europe but my family always drove VW's and as a kid I fell in love with gti's, cupras and s3's especially PQ34 cars. Seeing you do this build makes me super happy and it finally will shed more light on these cars.

IS38 and a MPI set up and they make some great power… but the 5cyl turbo in the RS3 and TTRS is an absolute beast. Sounds amazing too

Hell yeah, mk7.5 gti owner here and this makes me so happy. Although, the 2.0T EA888 that's in the golf is more than capable to be damn fast plus its actually designed by Audi anyway. 5 Cylinder Audi is infectous though, sound amazing.

One thing I've heard on the 2.5tfsi motor is the swap goes in easy along with all the drivetrain from the rs3 but it's the wiring that is difficult to make happy with all the golf components. I can't wait for this project on the channel haha definitely stoked

The rs3 swap is common in the uk because your going from a 4 cylinder in the golf r to a 5 cylinder in the rs3 and they can make some serious power

I have a 15’ golf r IE stage 2 just under 400hp. You don’t need to swap for the 5 cylinder for 500 hp, garret makes a direct fit turbo and you can make over 500, less work and probably cheaper. By the way huge fan.

Golf R in standard form with that 2.0l 4 cylinder can make over 500bhp at stage 3, many of them here in the UK, a few over here have also done the Audi 5 cylinder engine swap and are pushing over 700bhp at stage 3

mighty car mods golf r was insane 2.0 has some power to be extracted. Ran 10s I think at drag strip did it consistently too. 2.5 sounds so much better tho

Super stoked on this. I picked up a Mk7 GTI for a daily and did downpipe and tune and it's a blast for getting around every day comfortably with a kid in the back seat.

Innovative Motorsports has done the DAZA 5 cylinder swap into a Mk7 Golf R. Definitely worth checking them out. I've been wondering who's Mk7R that was in the background of video recently. Kinda fitting since your shop is an old VW dealership lol

Brake down hard as possible, sport , traction off off, gearbox warmed to 180 and above to activate launch control

Hold the esc button until everthing is disabled. Otherwise you did it all right, 6 speed is reliable just tune this first before swap it or turbokit will make 460hp. Here in sweden they say it makes 508hp but don't think it's to the wheels and that upgrade with install costs 10 000 dollars

500bhp is achievable through the golf R engine with a hybrid is38 turbo and few supporting mods. Believe it’s a stage 3 at 500bhp. Revo have achieved this on a load of golf R in the UK👍🏼

you really have to hammer the break if launch control isn't working. or it's set to only 8-10 launches from factory. if it's not tuned it will be locked after the factory setting.

It has to be on level ground and warmed up with traction control off brake all the way to floor then gas all the way to floor

Just go EQT Vortex XL if you’re shooting for 500. Just with down pipe, hpfp intercooler and 85 tune and you’ll be pushing 380-400

there is a company in Connecticut that does that swap. you may need to reach out to them about the wiring harness. everything can swap out like gas tank, diff, brakes and everything under the hood.

In Croatia there is quite a lot of these 2.5 swaps,the best time a guy in here has with a golf is : 0-100 2,8sec 100-200 5.2sec 1/4mile 10.1sec

I'm from the UK and a lot of people swap Audi engines like an RS3 into Golf R's if they can find a wrote off one for cheap. They're all compatible as it's the same company, Skoda, VW, Audi, etc. Personally, i would have just bought an S3 as the golf R and S3 are the same car just different badges and you could have done the build from that platform.... kinda a waste of money if you ask me but whatever floats your boat. It hurts me when Americans buy European cars and they have no clue aha. We just know what to do over here regarding these sorts of cars.

just got rid of my 2016 Golf R a couple months ago. stock power, never tuned, perfect maintenance to the handbook, and had 22k into it by 78k miles, two haldex failed within 10k miles, and everything electronic went to shit at 80k which i then had to throw at the dealership. Hopefully you didn't get a lemon bc that thing is a monster in disguise

Before you swap the engine, tune the 2.0L first and see how fast that thing can get

To get launch control to work you need to hold stability button till it’s all off

Big guys love small cars ! I’m 6’5 and drive a mk5 GTI 2 door 2.0! The small light nimble package makes it super fun up in the north east so I can see how Tommy likes the golf R more than the F80!! Also these 5 cylinders are kings on the street ! Check out 1stockf30 he’s killing the TTRS game

Honestly this is gonna be a cool swap. But i would also suggest looking at the 3.6 Litre engine from the VW R36. That thing would be nasty.

The Revo packages that bolt up to R can get you 400+ and here in NZ and Oz 10 sec passes.

I can respect the Golf R's. This mostly Subaru channel I follow called Smeedia had either a 16 or 18 for about a month a little while ago, drove it maybe 1000 miles before the engine grenaded from some form of neglect from the dealership he bought it from. I forget the specifics but I think one of the spark plugs broke inside the engine & pinballed around in there. It was quick released after. Dude isn't exactly fyeahspec but he has attention to detail & does his own work to a pretty high standard. He currently has a 22 BRZ, an Evo 8 project, and the flagship is a 17 STI with a big turbo eg33 swap shooting for 1000hp that he pretty much did himself aside from fab work.
