Thanks for the shout out and good luck with the DCT conversion!!! No doubt thats an amazing transmission and you will not be disappointed. We look forward to releasing a real trans brake setup for 6HP28 in the future as well. It has been done before by others but we need time to develop our own retail level solution. A comprehensive plug and play 8HP70+ kit utilizing factory TCU is also in development. Love the content, have fun out there rippppping it up and burning some rubber!

Thanks for checking out the vid. As i mentioned in the video, think yours is the best option right now for drag racers wanting to keep some ratios. A transbrake will be deal maker for a lot of people who are on the fence still. Even though, your setup will be pretty much indestructible behind an N54. Have you got many more test cars out in the wild yet? We will still need a trans for the vargas car as it progresses so let us know when you get the transbrake. Not gonna lie we dont want it for dragy racing in the vargas car, just party trick power skids.... :P

@@ZeroTo60Tube As of Monday we began machining on our batch of 24 test kits. We have taken deposits on half of those kits. Tentative shipping date is early/mid June. Once those are shipped we should start seeing feedback for those kits late June and onward into July. Small part design changes needed for AWD and E60 kits are being worked on as well which will hopefully be released in July/August for testing. I will be sure to keep you updated and once again thank you for spreading the word!

@@guruautowerks good to hear you are looking to do awd for this kit as well. I am starting to look into options for my 07 335xi as well. Interested in your kit, but sorta leaning towards just getting my factory trans built. I'm sure I will need to make my mind up in a couple months time.

@@991camaro definitely contact us to discuss your options. Built AWD 6HP21 will be weaker than 6HP28x and will cost similar. Unless you spend money on cryo shafts for the 21... At which point youl spend about double the cost of the 6HP28x conversion. We are expecting to do AWD test kits in July its being worked on right now and we already have several 335xi owners on the test list waiting for us to begin taking deposits in June.

@@guruautowerks I've been following you guys for awhile now and am REALLY excited about your forthcoming developments not only for the AT options, but mostly for the AWD/335xi upgrades I saw you mention online like upgraded transfer cases, front LSD, and axles. That pretty much covers every trouble spot I anticipated having with my car when I mod it and I considered many times selling it to get the RWD 335i model instead just to avoid these issues. But the thought of an AWD model that's got a driveline built to handle the power, that's exciting to me and that's some awesome new ground we're breaking there for the N54 community! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see how you guys can help me out over the next year or so with my build once you've completed your R&D and testing phases on all this!

Well i know he ended up having to take it to a shop. I have a feeling the vin update on the DME is a bit more in depth, or at least need special software to do it.

I believe they can't change the VIN in the DME, and if it doesn't match the VIN in the crank angle sensor, engine won't start. The workaround is to change the VIN in the CAS to match the DME.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Buy a MSD81 DME then clone your current cars DME to the MSD81 DME it will retain all your original Vin information you will just have a MSD81. You can find the shop on Instagram search rennmotorsLLC. “I made a spare clone of mine for just Incase I cook another

Prob already done it, but you can put the DCT into Neutral from the inside by lifting off the shifter surround - theres an allen socket to rotate.

While not in Australia, I used N54 Exclusive for my MSD80-81 conversion. They were quick and it worked perfectly. If they can work with you, I HIGHLY recommend them.

So I know Rod Sutphin personally, he can really dial in your car for you with the zf6hp28. He was telling me about someone that he has been talking with to get trans break on that transmission! And actually implementing that on the 6hp21 too!

That will be a game changer if they can get trans brake working. I have spoken to rod a while ago and a few people using his tunes. Love his work. Just dont love the 6hp. For drag racing yes, it makes sense and will work, but i want it do be perfect for mountain drives or circuit driving more so on my e92. The e90s can be the drag cars hehe

@@ZeroTo60Tube totally hear you! Personally I’ve been pretty happy with xhp stage 3 for spirited canyon driving in my e90 335d with the 6hp28! Downshifts in M are pretty snappy. What really helped with Rod’s valve body upgrade with 20% increased pressure! I’m sure his tq converter upgrade helps liven things up too!!

Guys, I've told you for ages, only a phone call away if you want info, help, advice etc. To do the upgrade, there are a few options that vary from quick and easy, but limited, to harder and more complicated, but better long term. I'm home in Melbourne and contactable until tomorrow night, then back to NZ unfortunately, but I'm more than happy to call from there and talk (costs me nothing to call Aus). How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

@@ZeroTo60Tube No worries, there's a heap of people around that can do it, you'll need to send them the DME, key and crank angle sensor. I believe they can't change the VIN in the DME, and if it doesn't match the VIN in the CAS, engine won't start. The workaround is to change the VIN in the CAS to match the DME. So be prepared, shouldn't be hard to pop that out though.

I know there are services on ebay where they can clone your msd80 ecu to an msd81. You just mail both ecu's and in a week or so you get both back with them cloned and ready to be installed

You are an Trans Angel sent because my trans has gone on my n54 and the quicker shifts especially down shifting I like. From watching your vid now I am in between the DCT and the ZF8 because it's crazy upshift and can only imagine the downshift. I've just done the M-DCT swap on 08 years E92 335i, now is in progress of custom tune ( I am also done the 17.5T big turbo upgrade at the same moment of the gearbox swapping project), from the tuner n my workshop's feedback the M-DCT now is holding almost 70 kgm of torque and I am petty happy on that (be aware I am not put my 335i on dyno test yet so the numbers has not been proven yet), will test it in coming future and get the exact numbers. I will test it by myself in next week when the final map is done :)

You should be able to release the parking mech from the interior. by removing the shift boot. There is a torx or hex screw that you can turn that will release it.

Unfortunately that only works on cars with power. Of which i did not have when i was trying to reposition it on the trailer after collection. Made the drive home exciting.

Look into the manual. You don´t need to get under the car. There is an emergency unlock within the shifter assembly. Just pull the cover and you have to turn something for emergency release. XHP Stage 3 DCT is available with line pressure of 19bar for quite some time now. It should hold well over 1000Nm. There is a release due for the N54 with 20bar line pressure.

I was reading that when i was trying to reposition the car after collecting it. Turns out that emergency unlock only works if the car has power. And yes the xHP recent upgrades are what really got me settled on the DCT. Makes them pretty capable.

@@ZeroTo60Tube you sure? What bummer. Make sure that your car has a dct vin or you contacted xhp. If you just swap dct and try to flash it will not work as xhp will not identify your car as a dct car.

Join the DCT 335i gang. You don’t need to go underneath it you have to pop the trim around the the shifter to put in neutral. Xhp on DCT is epic on the 335i The choices for upgraded clutch packs are dodson here in Auckland and then SSP in the states.

The 6hp28 is in my 335d and it's been handling 600 foot pounds of torque daily driven...... but many have been pushing 1000 foot pounds bone stock internals.... given my bushings did fail but that happens on stock trans on stock power also but its since been rebuilt...... With xhp and the sutphin transmission tune its ab absolutely beast!!!!

I don’t think a N54 could max out the 6hp28 trans capabilities. My only dislike is the downshift behaviour. And saying that it’s still good for an auto, just not as good as a dct or zf8

You can get it in to neutral by removing the shifter boot and turn the allen key counter clock wise until the mechanical click is felt and your in neutral

If you need a 8 bolt mfactory dct flywheel, I have a new one for sale. Btw Im doing the 6hp28 swap. Holds way more power and less headache in electronics.

HTG or DKGecu, there's limitations to tuning a dct rom. . And you can still have a clutch pedal for fun this way! Downsides are .. well, cost... Msd81 still generally better.. there's some advantages to having the DME communicate with the TCU as per factory.

You actually can release the parking mechanism from inside the car open of the shift boot and you will be able to stick a screwdriver in there and hold it in neutral. Learned it from when I rode in a dct n54 car that caught fire at the track

Yours should have a 6hp21, the N54 never came with the 6HP26. That said, what is actually wrong with yours. they are pretty easy to fix, as long as bushes arent too cooked. its nearly always mechatronic seals or solenoids.

700+ whp on my zf6 (was 680 on 25 psi) , 28 29 psi pulls all day long, no slips or anything. But, I am looking into a dct as well, so I'm with you on that one , it's just that much better than the zf6 especially on downshifts, and my 2nd to 3rd shifts in my auto are rediculous. I will hit limiter every time or have to short shift and bog down, or lift between shifts to not hit limiter, or not fully power thru second gear (boost limiting) to make it kind of manageable. It's just brutal with close to 30 psi in 2nd gear, i feel the seamless shift of a dct is on another level in that regard as well in addition to the downshift crispness as well.

Yeah i believe it, they seem to last a while now, but at these levels we are hitting now they simply can not last too long. How do you find downshifts, enetering a corner at speed, when you are balancing the weight of the car on turn in. What throws me off is the split second where the ZF6 appears to unlock the torque converter and you get a sudden jolt as it grabs the lower gear. Also have you seen how dragy curves look on DCT cars. No visible shift. Where i can still see all of my shifts.

I think a stock turbo car, running a ethanol mix at 20psi is a bloody quick bit of kit. Will be a hoot.

I have Xdrive and a 6hp21 so I'm basically stuck with the 6hp. Sonnax zip kit & new clutches changed this trans it's night and day and I have found that i can control the body much more in turns with decel

I've seen a guy post on forums a few years back where he successfully got an e9x 335i running on a ZF 8HP. I'd honestly go straight for this as DCT's can't slip at launch like a torque converter can. Personally I've prefer the DCT but I'm less interested in drags than I would be track days. But I'm keen to see how this goes.

Well having the vargas car made this DCT purchase a little easier for me. Turbo lamik seems the closest to getting a zf8 working, however haven't seen trans brake on the N54 car. But a ZF8 with a trans brake in the vargas car would be ideal. Something for later on down the track.

that was my car :) there are 2 identical n54 335i e92 space grey metallic with 8hp 70 from turbolamik. both are actually 8hp75 as well. mines pure drivetrain solutions stage 2 built for 1600hp with 5k billet stall converter. i had to wait 8 months for the engine and head, custom cams and for the machine shop to get it back to me. i actually had a stock 8hp70 from an alpina b3 wich has the n55 bell housing and i somehow lucked out when i scored it on ebay, i bolted it to the n54, no adapter no spacers just had to enlarge the holes on the flex plate etc etc. i posted it on the forums everyone told me i was a liar and full of shit etc etc because the ebay listing i got the trans from said it was an 8hp70 from bmw x5 diesel but really it was alpina b3 thats why it fit without a bellhousing adapter and regular 8hp70 does not fit so thats why everyone was hating on me, i ended up blowing up the 8hp70 trans and when i searched the part number i found out it was a rare alpina very expensive unit so i rebuilt it to stock, sold it for 8k and built a regular 8hp75z, got adapter plate and now im set for 1500whp and only came out of pocket $1500. im waiting to post it on the forums because everyone was super rude, now the car weighs 2600 lbs with me in it, has 11:1 wet sleeved block, wiseco pistons, wiseco boostline rods, n53 cnc head, 288/288 cams and inconel valves. im about to run it on e60 with 200 shot direct port. i have 3.31 final drive so the entire drivetrain gearing is identical to the a90 supra. the car that i built the drivetrain after runs 8.66 with 500 more lbs and 200 less ft lbs of torque so hopefully im going 8.50 or faster off the trailer at tx2k and then im going to update the forums about the build. the trans brake can be used in 1st 2nd or 3rd by the way, so you can set your tire size and final drive to basically fine tune your gearing for 1/4 mile in 2nd or launch 3rd for 1/2 mile runway stuff with the 8hp. you can even run the electronic torque converter clutch on a potentiometer to a foot pedal and have a foot clutch for kicks and drifting. after the adapter kits are fully finished and on the market there wont be any other swaps happening except to 8hp's . it can do everything the dct can do with htg but better lol. my car shifts at 40psi at 8k rpm on the scramble button. ive yet to even spray because im testing the new torque converter on a stock motor so i dont fuck myself over if this 8hp doesnt do what its supposed to. ive read a few stories on htg 8hp swaps locking up and just shattering lol.

ZF6HP26 is fantastic for upshifts, downshifts are MEH to say the least, but mine wasn't a tuned one in my XR6+T. Was great, held 600rwkw. DCTs are good, if the clutches stay happy. Good luck, hope its not gonna be a lemon.

You can put the DCT into neutral with an hex key - just pop off the shifter trim cover its under the shifter - couple of vids on youtube. At least that how I put my 135i DCT into neutral to load it onto transporter.

Unfortunately for me, that only works when the car has power. I trying for ages to reposition it on the trailer. Battery was dead and i didnt bring the bloody jump box for the first time ever. The drive home was limited to 90kmh before the death sways started.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Yes you will need power I believe - I assumed it may have a battery with a bit of charge or that you would have a jump start pack. You will love the DCT, they are a brilliant and fun box. Lightning fast shifts and an extra gear as well. Nice interior in the wrecked car...

I think you can use DME from donor car with just VIN number update. And the DCT needs the VIN updated as well.

For the msd81 if you know a computer store with a good reputation. You can take it to them. All it is changing the Mosfet. I did mine myself with an afternoon. Order the mosfets yourself will help out the price but I am in the US.

Well, the MSD81 is a very different dme to the MSD80. You can't write a MSD81 tune to a MSD80 dme. The DCT tunes were only on the MSD81. So i need a MSD81 to work in my car. Which means all the cars security needs to be reset and the MSD81 needs to be coded with my vin, my key to work with my cas as well..... i hope that makes sense.

But if you look up “vehicular DIY” I think he may have had a video on how to code a new DME to your car. With the ability to keep the same key. I’m not positive if the same process will work for dct but I’ll try and find the video and link it.

You can plonk 6R80 Mustang trans into Barra have you thought of that boys?? Cost of build around 8-9k but will hold 1500 plus Hp and almost indestructible

I know the 6R80 is supposedly stronger than the ZF6 version, but its still basically a ZF6 logic controlling it. I wanted some a bit smarter. And to be fair i dont think any N54 will break a Guru Autowerks ZF6HP28 with the right tune on it.

The x5 was done using BMW scanner, great for the e53, e46, e39 series of cars. But no good for the later ones.

What a fun topic!!!! And stop saying you broke the 325, the 325 compressor FAILED while you were driving it. No one breaks a A/C compressor they just fail. Especially a 100,000 mile compressor.

I got a used msd81 for my e92 and that has the correct vin on it after I got it coded to the car. I used a guy in Norway so that might be a little difficult for you guys 😅

Advantages of a zf8hp45 is that it will bolt straight upto your engine. Your chassis and your existing drive shaft and such. Obviously a zf8hp70 will handle more torque but isn’t going to be a drop in experience like the 45

Yeah, did think about playing with a 45, they are rated the same power as the stock box on the N54 zf6hp21, so i am sure it will die eventually, but would be nice to try. I am planning on shooting for the moon, so need something will last with big power.

This was a suprise! Love the DCT in my Z4. But i have always been worried about how much it can take powerwise. It wasnt rated for massive amount of torque i think... i have read numbers starting from 520nm from Bmw manuals, 600nm from getrag website and someone say up to 700nm. Thats why i really havent jumped into tuning my car and kept it safe and been running Cobb stage 1 for years now. Uprated clutchpacks for these cost thousands... Dodson for example. Its going to be great to see how dct holds up to all the power and abuse its going to see in your hands. I have been baby-ing my dct so much that i havent even used launch control once with it. :D And right time for all the upcoming videos with the dct. I have just started to do all the bolt-on stuff to my car. Not just for the power, but to prepare. Im at 70k miles with original turbos so i think a turbo job is probably coming at some point. i want to get some bolton stuff out of the way before that happens so i can easily swap some uprated ones in. Turbos are expensive enough, now imagine getting all the bolt-on supporting mods together with it... it would probably be too much at once for the wallet and i would just decide to replace with oem turbos. So to avoid that i have started to order parts: Should have BMS DCI, FTP chargepipe and Wagner evo2 competition intercooler in my hands to install next month. Then i can run Cobb stage 1+ fmic map for some more power. And increased IAT cooling for the summer season thats starting here in northen hemisphere. After that next thing is downpipes. I really dont know yet if i want to go catless so im not rushing. I want my car to pass yearly emissions tests without problems... Not sure if secondary cats in the midpipes actually clean it up enough to pass... So maybe ill just save up and get highflow cat downpipes so i wouldnt have to get new gaskets, put oem downpipes back, pass the test, put catless pipes back every 12 months... that would be just annoying and if i let a shop do that i would be even in two years, having spent the same as the expensive highflow cat pipes would cost. And then later some Turbosmart diverter valves to top it off. Inlets i would do with new turbos as they require different inlet size anyway... So thats the plan... and thanks for all the n54 videos.

From what i have read, recently with the xHP release the DCTs with good stock clutches will handle more power than a N54 can make. So if you are running a trans tune you will be safe.

Stock clutches hold about 700ft lbs. The transmission itself can handle 900 + ft lbs with upgraded clutches.

I am trying to do the same swap but I wanted the m3 dct because of the shifter , but finding out that the m3 4. Something liter won’t work and the n55 won’t either because the obd plug runs with earth or something so the way to go is either looking into an htc stand alone unit or I have heard the n55 uses the msd81 but you have to buy it new copy and rewrite the ecu to work with the gcu or you have to buy software to erase your dme and recode it to the dct. The swap is easy but the expenses of buying it and the parts and programs you have to go through to make it work. So haven’t committed to the project till I find out some one that has done the same project. My car is the N54 335xi . Also I guess I would have to delete the transfer case unless I went 6 speed?

I manual swapped mine and I still have the auto diff ratio. Definitely slower to 100 but it pulls really hard after that. Made the car way more enjoyable to drive though:)

Dont quote me on this but i think the ZF6HP19TU and ZF6HP21 is the same box, just had to different internal codes. Depending on whether BMW or ZF are referencing it.

Hey as far as I know you can't rewrite the VIN on a MSD81, you could kinda write a new VIN next to it, but when you go ahead and MHD Tune an MSD81 swapped car, MHD will write back the first original VIN again, which will end up being the Donor's VIN. It is not gonna cause a problem with the car, but when you scan it for codes and all that, you will see the Donor's VIN in the DME again. I know cuz it happened to me and this is the only explanation I've found for it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It will be interesting to see how the DCT handles the power. What I have read, you have to upgrade the clutches. Getting a good launch with a DCT is another issue compared with a TC transmission.

Launching is definitely a lot harder on the hole drivetrain with a DCT. Declans M2 sounds so harsh when you do a LC.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Will you have launch control with this DCT. When I had my F80 M3, I found it difficult to cut a decent 60' time on the Michelin PSS. MT ET Street radials would have been better. I am running a Nizpro upgraded transmission which so far has been handling the power (413wKW).

@@kencooper8636 The N54 DCT does have launch control from the factory, but its tuned for standard power levels, so its pretty much useless. With the release of xHP the launch control can be customised, which is the main reason i thought i would give it a try in my car. RK Tunes with his F80 DCT xHP and upgraded clutches still only managed a 1.6 60ft, but they are getting better with xHP. Still the violence of the DCT launch is a bit of a problem. Im kind of hoping with xHP the increase line pressure should help the clutches hold more power than i can throw at them. Just depends on what sort of life the trans has had previous.

interestingggggg! just picked up a dct e92 been after for ages with the idea of doing a single 3582 or DAW flow max decisions haha calculations on price work out to be much the same so torn which way to go , also worried about the dct on launches like you said but the Dodson clutch packs will be the way to go in future, thinking 400kw and dct should be a very quick street car

Ah yes the ol trans debate I to had this debate with myself for many many months... th400/glide really good at going fast not so good at doing much else.. although you can get a gear vendors over drive kit that will give them an overdrive buuuuut then there's the cost of them... keen to see how well the dct works sounds like it should be right in the middle of both 😊

I dont think you can beat the glide for 1/4 mile stuff. The right torque converter keeps your engine in the power range and the glides take up next to no horsepower. I read somewhere a TH400 takes like an extra 50hp to spin vs a glide.

Could probably get someone from the U.S. to remotely code it obviously just need them to have remote access to your computer while it’s plugged into the car.

I dont know for sure, but i think the DME stuff does need to be done on a bench.

@@ZeroTo60Tube That is a very big possibility honestly didn’t think of that but that makes sense. Maybe something can be done with e-sys for the programming not 100 sure but I think the dme can be directly connected just need to get the wires to hook it up.

Proper race transmission. Would love on in a drift or circuit car, but then again a single is mega money.

Check @nico_135i on IG he has done a shizzle ton of N54 DCT swaps. I love the idea of 8HP N54, I can't wait until that is ready. I thought the big challenge is the way a 8HP communicates with ECU is not compatible with MSD81 so I am guessing it has to be some piggyback option.

Have been watching nicos insta for a while. The 8hps do need an aftermarket controller. I am curious how they are integrating the aftermarket controller with the stock display so well. Would love a transbraked 8HP in the vargas car.

hey brother, join the 135 335i Australia facebook group, My mechanic who did my car also is very knowledgable about the msd dme swaps etc, his name is Vincent his an admin of the group. You wont be dissapointed his in melbourne and built everything on mine that i couldnt.

@@ZeroTo60Tube haha dont get me started brother! he kept telling me not to get the 17ts but i still went ahead! haha best decision ive made but i really really regret not going single turbo after spending like 14k-15k on the car :( after purchase costs.

The only guy that can do anything BMW ecu and module related conversions is Tom from JPL Auto Parts, he is the bmw whisperer and has done early bmw dct conversions, here runs a late model dct in his n54 e91 wagon, I dont know how to pm message you but you can contact me on facebook @madautodevlopments and I can put you in touch with all the right people
