DS and GBA is still awesome on my S21 Ultra. Many games don't really need the lower screen to be that big since it's mostly UI and menus.

Touch controls suck, though, and so do controller attachments. DS/3DS is still best on original hardware, and GB/GBA on the miyoo mini.

@mamaharumi A good telescopic controller definitely doesn't "suck". My Gamesir G8 on my phone is much, much more comfortable than my N3DSXL or DS. It's not even close. It's actually so much better that I hardly use my actual hardware at all. Not unless it's essential that I have access to both screens at the same time or play the odd game that actually benefits from 3D (SM3DL for example). My phone has a way better display, is capable of upscaling, and it's far more comfortable with a controller. Only SOME 3/DS games are best on original hardware. And GB/A games are definitely better on original hardware, especially if that hardware has an IPS screen. The mismatched resolutions and aspect ratios make them look objectively worse on any 480p 4:3 handheld. Bad? No. But better than actual hardware? Absolutely not.

@@PloopChute I mostly play them at 4x integre scaling. The IPS ,as good as it is, honestly strike me as almost turning your GBA into a clone console because it has a much higher resolution.

Tbh I would prefer if it were a Raspberry Pi kit or something, with an e-paper bottom screen that acts as a keyboard, mouse, gamepad, or whatever. This thing needs to have some semblance of a battery life, and a device that small you don't actually need to care about screen resolution all that much, so you can spare some processing power.

its really cool and id want one, just because how much i love the DS as a product (its pocketable most notably. but also the battery life, 100% silent because no fans, it doesnt get hot, local play and download play, the huuuge library of games and so on) this device gets close to the DS but it being a PC that plays PC games makes it amazing. it probably wont compete with battery life or heat but we are making progress and this is the first taste of that dream device.

Everyone has sticker shock but to me $900 is very much expected. It has the same CPU as a high tier laptop. My Framework 13 laptop has a 7840U which is one of the two CPUs they offer with this handheld. It’s a very good mobile 8 core 16 thread CPU and the GPU is no slouch.

Nintendo might actually release a dual screen portable in the future like the 3ds. The New 3ds iteration of console was actually very good, and I think it's a better system than the switch. The 3ds was mostly playable without needing to download anything first, unlike the dummy carts of the Switch that wouldn't even play unless you downloaded content.

Having used the trackpad on the steam deck for games like timberborn, my thumb would last about 5 min before cramping on that joystick…. The stick layout on the steam deck is pretty at better imo
