The Alpha 9 III features the world’s first*1 full-frame stacked 24.6 MP*2 CMOS image sensor with a global shutter system. This newly-developed Exmor RS™ image sensor exposes and reads all pixels simultaneously so the camera can capture fast-moving subjects with absolutely no distortion.
The Alpha 9 III is defined by speed and accuracy, enabling it to capture decisive moments with ease. It’s capable of shooting continuous bursts at up to 120 fps* with AF/AE tracking, all without viewfinder blackout, and its highly-advanced AI processing unit recognises subjects with astonishingly high precision and reliability.
*1 Compared to interchangeable-lens digital cameras. As of the November 2023 product announcement. Sony survey.
*2 Approximate, effective.
*3 Sony test conditions. Maximum continuous frame rate may be lower in some shooting conditions. Continuous shooting speed may vary depending on the lens used in AF-C focus modes. Visit Sony’s support web page for lens compatibility information.

Another milestone by Sony today. The A9 rocked the world which forced Canon and Nikon to invest heavily into Mirrorless back in 2017. 6 years later, they are doing it again with the A9-iii that has a GLOBAL SHUTTER!!! People keep complaining about the 24 mp sensor but lack the knowledge to understand that a faster readout means less mega pixel. A 50 mp sensor will not be able to achieve 120 fps unless Sony does something revolutionary again to achieve that insane burst speed. I'm hoping to play with the a9-iii in 2024 as I mostly use E-shutter now. Canon's R1 better have Global Shutter too or else no point in that camera anymore. Now both Canon and Nikon have to once again catch up to Sony. Well done Sony, well done!

@@sougata8332 I bought my first Canon Ti and used the heck out of that DSLR for 2 years before moving onto the Canon 5D Mark II. They were great for their times but back then, Canon and Nikon weren't in a hurry to innovate their cameras. I do understand that 5 years was the norm for a camera's life span before a newer model comes out. But when it did, it was just another DSLR. Sony's 2nd generation Mirrorless camera back in 2014 impressed me a lot. I love the Face detection feature that track my subject without having to switch focus points all the time. It's one of the biggest reason why I switched to Sony. It's always great to have competition so that it forces companies to innovate or be left behind. Had Canon and Nikon invested heavily in Mirrorless back in 2013, Sony would have exited the camera market. Canon's R1 and Nikon's Z1, if they ever come out better have some amazing specs or else at this point, they are just making cameras to please their fans.

@@Ausknutz You are right! For weddings or event gigs, I prefer 24mp so that the files and images are not so HUGE!!!! Majority of the times, I don't crop my images as I will frame my scene before capturing away. The only time I want 42 mp images with my a7Riii is when I am shooting landscape shots like during a wedding ceremony. Otherwise, my clients are not going to zoom in on every image to see who was at their weddings. And if people want bigger images, just double their pixels in photoshop. Yes, I understand that its not the same quality as an actual 50 mp sensor, but it still comes 80% close to it. Such simple steps and people always have something to complain about. Otherwise, 24mp is the minimum sweet spot for cameras now. And we all have to keep in mind that lower mega pixel counts does mean faster read out. I'm sure a 12 mp global shutter sensor can hit 240 fps easily.

From specs, nailed it! Another Sony a9 1 moment, that took the market by storm. Hope it will live up to the hype, without major practical drawbacks including bad high ISO performance, easy overheating etc. Then, it was the beginning of the end for the DSLRs. Now it's their end of their end. HUGELY appreciate the 2mm wider body, the larger but curvier grip, the more slanted plane for the shutter button. Tiny things, that finally address more substatially previous Sony criticisms. As well as Sony finally having both a great EVF, and a great LCD, and the great dual-rotate screen of the A7R V. And great stabilisation, and a bonus of a front button. All in the same camera. All these for the cost of a 24 MP stacked sensor flagship.

What a massive leap for flash photography, particularly outdoor flash. The most concerning spec announced is ISO 250-25,600. Maybe an issue for pixel peepers. But I think for practical improvements, flash sync and anti flicker performance is pretty huge, as well as finally getting pre-capture on Sony. Hopefully the other image processing improvements hold up as well like stabilization and photo stacking technology starting to creep back on cell phone type technology.

One of the downsides on global shutter is usually lower dynamic range (for video in general). That’s why the alexa still uses rolling shutter. I hope this one does well in this category.

You guys don’t need to spend $2,000 on a new body every year or two to take great photos! I’m still rocking a mint D700 I bought used for $200. All of those photography hipster video channels are owned by people who literally take thousands of photos and only share the best ones and they have talent, they could use a 30 year old digital camera and still produce better photos than you or me. Do you actually believe that this new Sony camera is going to make you so much better and you’re going to make $100,000 or more per year with it?

If you can’t make $100 k a year as a photographer it’s time to find a new profession… I average $300k and my wife averages $180k .. but to your point yes the gear won’t make you better but it’ll make life easier and in this case allow you to capture things that no other camera can if it’s a have to have shot and you’re working professionally.. no one makes really a bad camera anymore. Use the tools you need for what you shoot and your income allows. Cheers friends!

$6000 how disappointing ,no thank you. Any chance of making a stacked sensor camera aimed at wedding and event photographs , we don’t need 120pps . It will be way cheaper to switch to two z8 even with having to change all my lenses .

Wildlife photographer here. I love Canon and don't have the money at the moment, but this is really making me consider jumping ship to Sony. I am already in love with the A7R V, and now with this one. Global shutter when shooting African wildlife will be a game changer! Come on Canon, do something to make me stay loyal. Sony is really doing stuff here.
