Hey Goodies! This video has been highly requested! I finally got around to filming and editing this for you all; I wanted it to be as informational and as thorough as possible. I recommend watching it all the way through as I not only give the steps to self retightening your hair, but as well as helpful tips to ensure you do it correctly! I hope you all enjoy :)
Nappy Loc Tool Link: www.nappynhapp...
(I use the "micro" size)

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
FAQs:
1. How many locks do you have? 700-800 locs.
2. How long have you had your sisterlocks? 10 years.
3. How long is your hair? 25 inches/lower back length.
4. Have you dyed your hair before? Yes, 4 times.
5. Who is your consultant? I currently don’t have one. My sisterlocks were established by a consultant; I’ve been maintaining my hair myself for 6-7 years.

I remember back in the day when I had sister locks about 13 years ago I lost my job and couldn't afford retightenings for a few months. I went back and my loctician would not continue to retighten my hair. Because she said I could have compromised the structure of my hair. Back then they would not let you know what your rotation was you couldn't even see the tool they were using. So I read an article about how sisterlocs sued nappylocs and figured hey if their process it is close enough for sisterlocks to sue them then I'm going to check out nappy locs. I bought the book got the tool and begin retightening on my locks myself

I’ve had my sisterlocks for 7.5 years, and I’ve always had someone else do mine so I wouldn’t have to. However, I will be studying abroad this August in Spain for a year and decided that it’s probably a good time to learn/do them myself. I found this video very helpful, ordered the nappy loc tool, and I tried retightening it myself for the first time this week. It took me 3 days to do but that was with interruptions (work, interviews, family visiting). They turned out great and I was very proud of myself! I also got lots of compliments and was excited when someone asked, “Who did your hair?” And I could respond, “Me💁🏾‍♀️”😂 thank you, Imani!

Thank you Imani. I am 1 1/2 years in and recently migrated. I was so apprehensive about not being able to find a loctitian. I found one but he had to travel and my hair would need retying before his return. So I ordered a kit with several sizes of retying tools and I began watching KZfaq videos. Yours has been very helpful. The good thing about my original loctitian is that she made sure I knew my rotation in the event that I needed to engage someone else. And I’m grateful for that. I can’t wait to try the retying process. I’m glad I don’t have 700 locks though 🙈.

thank you so much Imani, I used your method of retightening my own hair, put it into sections and started from the outside where I could see ....and I did it! I didn't understand the directions at first but once i practiced and did it several times I understood better. However, the hard part for me is looping my hair through the needle because I have the type of needle with the small hole for the loop if that makes sense.

LOL oh noooo! Try again if/when you're ready. It takes a lot of time and courage in the beginning. But the trick is to do it slowly but surely weening yourself off of professional retightenings as you gain more confidence :)

Love it!!! This is by far one of the best retightening tutorials! I’d like to see how you combat frizz. Today is my 2 month sisterlockiversary, and idk what to do with the frizz.
@ImaniGoodridge
@ImaniGoodridge 4 жыл бұрын
Lana Walton Hinds Thanks! And frizz is part of the locking process! There is no way to avoid “frizz”. That is just the process of your hair locking. My sisterlocks are mature. Which is why they don’t look frizzy! Your locks will condense overtime and lose the frizzy look. 😊

Thank you so much for this amazing video! You make me feel like that I have made the right choice to start doing my own retightening on my sisterlocks. I will be loc'd going 6 months February 12th. You make it look so easy. I have one question: it looks like you retightening your locs on dry hair, is that correct? I will be starting my own retightening tomorrow morning, wish me luck! And again THANK YOU FOR A GREAT VIDEO!!

I can get an appointment but I've reminded myself I got this style because its beautiful and can be self-maintained. A colleague died from Covid so I've decided it's time to stop with the luxury, expense, long drive and risk to life when I am physical able to do this...and I had a shoulder dislocation last year so couldn't attempt this or even get dressed by myself...sooooo also wish me luck...I will miss 2 hours pampering of course, I'll let you know how long it takes me ladies 😬
@ImaniGoodridge
@ImaniGoodridge 3 жыл бұрын
My condolences regarding your colleague. And I completely resonate with wanting the ability to maintain my own hair especially in times like this. Similar to you, I separated my shoulder awhile back so I understand the struggle! To answer your question about how long it takes me to retighten my 738 sisterlocks - about 6 hours if I don’t let it grow out too densely. That’s about every 6 weeks. Do let us know how it goes. Wishing you luck! Just go slow and be patient the first couple of times 🤗

I'm back! Thanks for the encouragement. So I tried retightening and I was sooooo slow, re that dislocation I mentioned and my lack of correct self maintenance, some of my locks had to be combined due to weak locks...Anyway, 4 Consultants on, each one getting closer to home, my current Consultant is leaving the Country 😢 I'm just not able to do search or drive so reconsidering retightening myself again. Last time it was 20hours to get through about 2/3 of my hair, so hopefully I can speed up dramatically. I'll be starting about 4 weeks before its due just in case.( mine are on an 7-8 week schedule as my hair doesn't grown particularly quickly? All of my Consultants were taking 2 to 2.5 hours to complete for context at £70, all were lovely and fast). Again, I'll hopefully be back with an update

I bought a London Locs tool. It's basically a small crochet hook with a spring lock and tapered point end. It hooks onto the loc so it cant/wont fall off. Havent used it yet but I know I will soon.

You don't need to know what direction was your last from your last retightening. You just need to always start at the starting point of the rotation :)

Girl!!!!! Do you realize you are the reason why I'm about to get sister locs?? I'm looking like omg! I can't believe it's the woman online!!! It's rare that the pics online are ppl who do them themselves and have a KZfaq channel! Soooo my story is ain't nobody trying to mess with me because my hair is bra strap long and thick (here in San Diego) and the ppl who will don't actually get down like your hair like they think. The pics they use to market themselves ain't actually like yours. I'm scared to do them myself! I don't have the patience to install but will retie myself. Thank you!

Thank you for your video. I just moved back to Atlanta and it seems that the going Retie price is doubled. I can’t in all good conscience pay $150 to $200 every 4 to 5 weeks. That defeats one of the purpose of getting the locs. Thank you again for the video.
