My sister has beef cattle. She breeds them so that the babies are born during the winter when she has them in the barn. She keeps the babies in calf pens and using a rope halter takes them to their moms to nurse until they are weaned. By doing it that way they are halter trained by spring and gentle. She can walk them to whichever pasture she wants to put them in as they are used to being handled. It makes a big difference.

I miss too the ones that are gone. This is so cute. It will be fun to see them grow up.

The two new babies are so precious and little. Megan will love having them as her goats as she loves animals too. Have a great day.

There is definitely a difference between a bottle baby and one that isn't I completely agree as someone who grew up on a farm it does make a significant difference no matter how friendly the mum is the babies will still have a distance from you unless they are bottle fed

Cute names for cute babies!

To put it simply- bottle feeding the goat kids socializes them to humans and make them friendly to their humans. Dam raised goat kids tend to be skittish, not socialized to humans and very difficult to work with when they need maintenance care like feet trimming, vaccinations, and medications as appropriate. I follow two breeders- Weed’em and Reap and Blue Cactus Dairy Goats. They both pull the goat kids within 36 hours. By that time, their milk has come in and babies are moved to bottle feeding. In some cases they may not leave babies with mom - like the mom sat on the baby and smothered it- so the breeder pulled the other babies, milked the colostrum from mom and bottle fed it to the babies. If you don’t live on a farm, I highly suggest you watch these two breeders. It’s an education!

I don’t really care who the moms of the baby goats are. The babies will be gone before we learn who their mothers are anyway. By then we will not even remember who was who. I just know that the babies keep getting cuter and cuter. I cannot take my eyes off Pig Newton. He is so adorable 🥰
