Still don't understand why so many hates Nolan. He's not only pioneering the usage of IMAX for commercial cinema but also one of the few directors who is still fighting for big theatrical experience of every movies

I’ve been seeing Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX, and honestly I’ve notice how the color and film grains make the image pop out better compared to a digital rendering.

I currently work at Rivoli and there is only the one 70mm projector with the entire film on one print, on a pallet just like IMAX. Probably is shown on multiple reels at other 70mm locations but not anywhere that has an auto rewind pallet system. Our projectionists just sat and made sure nothing went wrong and everything was always in focus. No switching necessary

I live here in Melbourne and the IMAX theater is amazing but the only thing putting me off seeing Oppy is that I don't think my bladder will last three hours - lol!

I'm feel so lucky that I managed to actually see this in 70mm imax as the theater is literally only like a 15 min drive away from me.

Unfortunately wasn't able to see this movie in 70mm IMAX but I bought the 4k disc and wow it already looked amazing I can't imagine what 70mm IMAX looks like. I have a 70 inch TV and even then the quality was more crystal clear than other 4k movies I've watched.

I went on vacation to London, UK to see Oppenheimer in IMAX 15/70mm at BFI IMAX. I regret not buying 2 tickets for two days because I wanted to see it in that format again so bad after seeing it the first time 😭 Unforgettable experience!

Thanks for the video. Cool to hear your comparisons. I was lucky enough to get to see Oppenheimer first on IMAX 15/70 at Citywalk AMC theater in Los Angeles. It was really really stunning. So immersive. I then did get to see it in regular 70mm.. which was still really great... but not quite as impressive as 15/70. Thanks for helping educate people about the different formats!

know what it means to feel like you can "go out and touch" the people on the screen. IMAX doesn't feel big, it feels real. The sheer size registers as actually being there. It's even more effective than 3D when it comes to creating a fully emersion experience. The real question of course is whether Oppenheimer can be enjoyed purely on it's merits as a drama, and certainly it does. But it's pretty impressive that this format hasn't been forgotten by any means.

Great video man !!! My favourite combo is similar to yours. I firstly experienced this movie at Astor Theatre in Melbourne (70 mm plus matching wine 🍷) and then at IMAX Melbourne in 1570 format. Each unique experiences.

The IMAX dual Laser 4K System is now 10 Years old. It was a savior for the Company for sure. BUT in Comparison to 15/70mm, the old System is far superieur. The difference is huge, but nobody will tell because of the convienice of the industry. The DUAL Projections are projecting a Pixel with a half pixel offset next to each other. This results in an unsharp Pixel Presetation, trying to fake more resolution, but only relsuting in an softer Image with NO extra Information. Every single-LASER is sharper than a DUAL System, you can check this easily. A 4K Resolution is only suited on a Screen max 20m wide, that's the sceond problem. The 15/70mm System (if shot on 1570 too) is still after 50 Years in a league of its own, one of the most spectacular Things we can see today. You don't see any Pixels there, it's like infinity Resolution, projected with ONE powerful Bulb. You have to see it on your own. There is no Comparison until we see, a true 8K x 6K 4:3 native Texas Instruments DLP Chip, no fake Pixel Shift, no Pixel overlaying. (For showing 1570 scanned Movies) Shot digitally, no Comparison until we have a 12K x 8K 4:3 native Sensor in Size of Medium Format (GFX like), with highest Dynamic Range and fast Rolling Shutter. - none of this is in the Pipeline at this moment. - None of this has the asthetics of Film either. ... 15/70mm was and will be the ultimate Experience, let's support it

The movie theater in Houston where I lived had Oppenheimer in 70mm, I watched it in 70mm instead of IMAX with laser (aka LieMax) and it looked incredible in 12K, I wish the movie theater in Houston I went to had the true IMAX (aka 18K resolution)

We don't have a theater showing 15/70 where I live, but we have a really wonderful theater that shows 70mm. Oppenheimer was the single best looking film I have ever seen in a theater. The 70mm print was extremely crisp and beautiful.I've seen other 70mm prints there, including both Interstellar and Dunkirk, but none of them looked as good as Oppenheimer.

how would compare dual 4k laser imax to 70/15 mm? same size as the 7 story film screen

I watched it on 4k blu ray on my 150 inch home theatre and oh boy even I didn’t knew that my projector was this good

I liked standard 5 perf 70mm the best. More of the picture was shot in it, and you don’t get the same grain on the non-IMAX scenes as u do on the 15/70 print. The expanded AR doesn’t necessarily lend itself very well to the genre of film that is Oppenheimer If I were to do it all over again, regular 70mm with the best Meyer sound system u can find in a cinema.

Wait why do they compress the digital version used in the laser projection?

Digital cameras today have superior dynamic range AND colorimetery to any film. And with digitals now being available in up to 12K resolution, even the resolution war has now come to an end, and only large format IMAX 70mm still holds an edge.

I went to see Tenet in 70MM at Rivoli. It had a really dark shading, pretty unique but the sound was nothing special unfortunately. I wish there were more Dolby Atmos cinemas in Australia, they’re pretty rare and the only cinemas that I’ve been to that have them are Docklands Hoyts, Chadstone Hoyts and Crown Village.

70mm on a really big screen, with a top notch soundstage is close to 70mm IMAX.

Empire of Light (2022) was mid but that scene where they changed the film reel was amazing. Made me really appreciate Mank (2020).

I saw Oppy at a 6:30AM screening (yep, that's an "A" as in morning) at the Chinese theater in Hollywood and scored a seat under the projection booth. Like your Rivoli there's a charm to experiencing films in historic theaters but the sound quality (albeit still fantastic) doesn't reach the experience of modern theaters. I'm hoping to catch Dune pt2 at the Irvine Spectrum when center seats become available. Wish me luck!

agreeeeed oppenheimer in 1570 imax was an 11/10 experience where as DUNE 2 in imax the same theater (was digital) felt more like a 9/10 experience tho the black and white harkonnen arena scene realllllyyy had me, imagine if that was in 1.43:1 1570

I wish cinemas were more honest with the type of IMAX they show. Not every IMAX screen is the same, only about a dozen in the US and two in the UK (where I live) show films in the actual 1:43:1 ratio. The rest are liemax. I was planning on watching Dune part 2 again in IMAX, but what’s the point if true IMAX screens are so far and few between and cinemas aren’t transparent about that?

Yeah kirk India has 26 IMAX Digital theatres but all of them are 1.90 and not even a single one is a 1.43:1 Dual laser venue😢

9:39 I respectfully disagree. I saw Oppenheimer at Universal Cinema in 15/70 IMAX after they extended the run, and my theater, having gone in late August, weeks after the film's initial launch, was packed out the wazoo.
