@richardtbrown756 I understand your concern about the possibility of people using accents in an ill-intended manner. Humans have certainly done so in the past and I'm sure there are those out there now who still might, however, I see the greater majority of people utilizing this knowledge in a much more wholesome way. For example, I came here with two purposes (besides the fact I love to learn). 1. In my verbal storytelling I would love to be able to personify and represent characters from different parts of the world and accents are a wonderful way to do that. 2. I work in science communication and how I say something is often just as important as what I say. Learning about how accents work and how to understand them better can help me provide a better experience for those I am teaching and trying to genuinely welcome into the scientific community. Indeed, people can be shitty just remember not to let those people blind you to those who are trying their best to be the kind homo sapiens who can/have made the world a better place in their own little way. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day and enjoy some more amazing documentaries. 🙂
