Satisfactory gameplay today playing the most difficult mod ever made for the game: Satisfactory PLUS! You'll understand why it's the hardest mod, but I thought I'd see how far I could get in 24 hours. Needless to say, I was not ready for what was in store.

Just started this mod. Very early in Tier 2, maybe 3 hours in. It's not the screws. It's the 5 different ores/base materials I need to manage and the fact that processing requires so many steps. It seems a lot more realistic, but I'm tempted to abandon it already. I feel like the only reason I'm not is that I'll be REALLY good at logistics for playing 1.0 on Vanilla.

It makes sense to do in Factorio, because like. Construction bots. And Factorio simply has more convenience when building things. Ripping down and rebuilding your ore processing is totally fine, after you've got bots! In Satisfactory? Hell no. Satisfactory's building is so tedious that it becomes grindy. Redoing it? Torture.

As an engineer: The screws are actually very accurate. In the real world there are companies like McMaster-Carr and Fastenal that deal HEAVILY in all of the various kinds of fasteners you need to build literally anything. Look around whatever room you're in right now and count all the screws, nails, bolts, etc, in the furniture, in the building frame, etc. Even your clothes. The seams of your clothes are fastened by thread, plus the usual buttons and zippers. Fastening things is such a big deal that this mod could have easily had 20 different types of fastener to worry about.

Thing is though, that's dealing with _our_ level of technology. The way I envision Satisfactory is that the building gun you have functions literally as shown. You designate an area, and it simply fabricates it from the materials you have stored. The reason you don't need screws for many things are due to how the building gun simply fabricates the machine with components fused together completely. It's fine to fabricate things fully fused, since there's not really a need to un-screw things when you can just push a button and the whole machine is broken into its constituent parts. It's not a perfect explanation but I figure it's at least something.

Fun fact. The ratio of the biomass and the leaves is just right if you split it of 3 ways with a normal spliter 2 will always be leaves and the other 1 will always be the biomass they will never mix. Reason is it outputs 2 leaves and 1 biomass on every output hope that helps if you dont want to rush for smart spliters.

Yeah... I just hit Brass in SF+ and it was like a brick wall. I originally thought, "Oh, Brass is Copper and Zinc, and you get both from Saphirite, this should be easy." No. You have to use the Furnace to melt the copper and zinc (and deal with the Molten Slag byproduct), and then put that into another Furnace to get Brass... along with a bit of Crushed Iron just because. Then you have to put the Molten Brass into a Cooler to get Brass Ingots.

Fun tip, you don't need the smart splitter. The output of leaves and biomass is a perfect deterministic output and splitters also split in a deterministic manner. Just chain two splitters to break off the biomass then merge the leaves back together into one belt. So long as you don't jam your output it works forever.
@Warp9pnt9
@Warp9pnt9 Ай бұрын
The problem is that if for any reason the fluid conditioner backs up. it tries to empty one buffer before the other, which will block the entire production line. Further, even with a smart splitter, this will most likely also back up the constructors and assemblers making the bio coal (Kibz didn't unlock or look at), which burns much slower in coal burner, yielding much more power from biowater nodes. So you need a proper balancer logistic, possibly even just storage container buffers, to handle the output from fluid conditioner in a robust manner than can't back up. smart splitter becomes vital, essential.
@xoso599
@xoso599 Ай бұрын
@@Warp9pnt9 The output and consumption are all deterministic. I believe the ratio is 1 bio water inputs perfectly powers 8 boiler units, using 2 conditioners. You will need some extra makeup water but once you do the math so long as you don't blow your electrical grid it runs forever. The only need for a buffer is on start up to get everything saturated and consuming the water. If you front load your system with a bunch of fuel you can start it without a buffer. (By making your own buffer in the unit feeding it fuel).

I come from modded minecraft (i played nomifactory & gregtech new horizons) where this is basically normal. Besides you not only crush ores & purify them via 4 different ways, but you may purify the mineral for its elemental compounds requiring individual processes per byproduct of purifying an ore. Examples are bauxite, ilmenite, the platinum group, tungsten related minerals. Its minecraft, but the complexity there goes through the roof, as you also require different wiring, plating, piping, rods, screws, gears, magnetised versions for iron/steel/neodymium/samarium. Still fun, and seems like the ideal modpack for satisfactory for me to play ❤

I had the same reaction when I played through this mod. I got maybe 70% of the way up the tech tree before I tapped out. And I was using free build cost AND wasn't even worrying about efficiency, I was just trying to make all items in the tech tree. And that simple goal was mind bending.

You know, honestly? Not a bad mod at all. While I can see why some people would prefer the basic game, SF+ is as good, it's just for different people. Honestly, if you don't enjoy fiddly ratio'd nonsense and problem-shooting things that are breaking, I'm not really sure why you're playing satisfactory and not Valheim. Coffeestain Studios should hire the maker of this mod and bundle it into their game.

Supposedly you can successfully use a normal splitter to split the output of the fluid conditioner, since conditioning biowater always produces 2 leaves and 1 biomass and outputs them in the same order. But I found this to be VERY flaky, and I kept getting occasional grass in my biomass line and visa versa. I was VERY happy to have smart splitters. But yea, this mod pack is NUTS

I enjoy SF+, my save is currently at Steel Screws as well. One note though for anyone considering it- I suggest pairing SF+ with Faster Manual Crafting Redux mod. Lets face it, manual crafting is just taking time from your life without giving you anything. Early on it allows you to drop like 10 miners on a node, grab all their stuff, crush it in 30 sec, smelt it in 30 sec and make tons of base parts. The sheer complexity of the mod ultimately pushes you to automate regardless because you stop wanting to manually craft (even much faster manually craft) the myriads of things all the time. But you've blitzed through enough of the T1/2 stuff that now you can reasonably automate most things and get power going relatively well. Also, obv. once you hit molten/liquid/gases manual crafting doesn't matter cuz ya can't. TL:DR SF+ with Faster Crafting plays a bit more like Vanilla time/progression wise, while still being way more complex to figure out.

I love the feeling of not knowing what's coming next, what the recipes are. It's almost like playing the game for the first time. This mod forces us to rethink the logistics aspect of the game. There are many new items to store, different inputs for familiar recipes and having to manage byproducts.
@danielh.9010
@danielh.9010 19 күн бұрын
I actually had to manually write down the recipe chain required for end products when designing my SF+ factories. It actually was kinda fun doing this. But the fun stopped when fluid or gaseous byproducts turned up, which are hard to handle in Satisfactory. You're lucky when they can at least be burnt to get rid of them.

Crushing and sorting ores, dealing with byproducts everywhere, farming creatures for their juices, rebuilding setups because the next tier recipe comes along... Makes me miss Pyanodon (a mod for Factorio). That also has a big focus on coal derivatives - you can't even mine the lead without first having to process coal into acetylene and a whole mess of other fluids.
