the only thing i found weird about this is from my experience, most non-usa cultures seem to value sons far more than daughters. my friend's family is greek and her brother has constantly had advantages she never had. she's basically an afterthought. my own family is greek-italian and it was basically the same deal, worship the boys, ignore the girls.
@dolapo5179
@dolapo5179 2 ай бұрын
I feel like this is specific to the post-immigration experience. Like what you say is usually true in the home country but once they cross the border the dads start hating their sons. Maybe not exactly hating but it's more like the life that they have fought to give their children now appears wasted on them. The fathers will more likely see that in their sons and the mothers will see it in there daughters because they remind them of themselves and they can't help but compare what they would be doing if they had grown up in that position instead. Obviously this is just one archetype, and is not applicable to every single family but it's more or less what they're portraying here
@e01084
@e01084 2 ай бұрын
Yes, this is true. But the eastern dad typically has problems with the son more than the daughter as both grow up. Because he wants to discipline the son and raise him as a tough man.

Either they've assimilated to American life or the writers did it so as not to come across as sexist. If it's the latter, it kills the joke, which is why I prefer to believe the former.

Eh my Arab immigrant dad definitely treated us daughters like princesses and was harder on my brothers lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ not every family is gonna be the same, but this definitely is the trend I've noticed. Mothers are usually the ones harder on the daughters

@@growyoung6438Yes, but did you follow your dads’ rules - about school, socializing, dating (especially). Because good girls get treated like princesses, but what about the girls who dare stay over night at a boyfriend’s house at nineteen?
