A very good friend of mine from Cuba, he had a call like this and didn't really understand he asked that they call him back and he called me. I was with him when they called and I heard the speel I popped on the call he had political asylum, valid work permit, and deals with the CBSA not ICE reports weekly I explained to him if he did anything wrong that CBSA not ICE would be knocking on his door not calling him. Or would ask him to go directly to immigration for a Q and A. Im glad I was able to be present, his English is OK but he's still learning so he doesn't understand complex conversations yet and doesn't know the ins and outs of the immigration system. I told him under political asylum that deportation is complicated not a phone call it would have to go through a human rights tribunal to assess what deportation could mean for someone with asylum. It's sick what they do to these immigrants. I recorded the call and sent it to a CBSA officer. My friend who is a big tough guy was nearly in tears at the thought of being sent back because he was part of the opposition party in Cuba and ex military and he'd be executed if sent back and it caused so much mental anguish was heartbreaking. They have no idea what they are putting immigrants through. And many will pay out of fear as well as the language barrier and not knowing how the system works. Even after the call I had to lay out all his documents and one by one go through them and tell him he didn't have a problem he's ok he's safe then popped by the cbsa office with his immigration ID number for them to run it and tell him the same thing that hes ok there's no problem. It's horrible but I was only able to help because I had already seen your videos.

In my opinion this is worse than the typical scam calls that don't directly target immigrants. They may not be familiar with US laws, so are more susceptible. English might not be their first language, so the accent that would tip a lot of people off isn't noticed.

I work remotely with about 30 other people, and almost every day for 2 weeks now we all get spammed by a "Washington DC" area code number that claims to be the Chinese Embassy ..they speak Mandarin, and we've tried to Google translate it, and all it really can make out is they are going to deport you. But, it calls us one by one every few seconds. So scummy! Our IT department warned everyone it was a scam. (Obviously, but some might not know any better)
