IMMOBILIZING My Volvo V70R In The Name Of Steering... Volvo V70R SAS Removal

Just because the car has been running fine, doesn't mean the car is all fixed...
Today, I address one of this car's biggest issues. The steering angle sensor. Apparently, the steering angle sensor (SAS) ties together several different modules on the Volvo V70R, and if it works... 3 other modules should work properly. I have my buddy Jacob in town to help me, and the folks at ‪@XemodexInc‬ have been helping me throughout the entire process.... This should be great!
I also get the opportunity to install windshield wipers and the hatch struts! A lot happens!
Thanks for watching!

As a fellow person with a 2006 Volvo V70R that has dealt with these issues(and still dealing with in some cases) in the past. You are in for a WORLD of hurt when it comes to all these modules. Look for your Brake Control Module to go next, thats another re-program only Volvo can do as well. As for getting a full fat version of ViDA, good luck, there's NO trial and prepare to shell out thousands per year for a license. Also, you most likely won't even be able to purchase it because you need a valid dealership license for Volvo to check against. Start asking any of your friends who sold Volvo's in the past... Good luck. I will be continuing to watch this series and offer my input!

Two quick notes. First, you can quickly drain any remaining power by tapping the brake pedal after disconnecting the battery. Second, you should be able to jack up the entire front or rear axles of the car with single jack points when using a floor jack. In the front there is a small dimple on the subframe just behind the rear bumper, that's a good point. In the rear I'm not sure because I know the diff has the exhaust running underneath it, but I would think there would be a reinforced point somewhere. Possibly not, but would just be odd. At least the front can go quicker.
@ElliottAlvis
@ElliottAlvis 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I messed up. The first time I did this, I jacked the front up first using the central point. But since I did the tears first, the front got too low to use the central point. I tried lol

My mother worked in the Torslanda (Sweden, and Lego is from Denmark :-) factory for Volvo, and I live about 50 Km from it. By looking at the hood it has been in some severe heat (which we don't usually have in Sweden...) maybe that is the most cause of all these problems? older Volvos tolerate cold (as we are a "cold" country but maybe the heat is to much for it... anyway it's a nice car and really nice of you to restore it! Swedish body panels, Swedish engine, English carburetor, French wheels, Italian seats, German electrical system, German transmission, American back axle, Japanese AM radio, and the whole thing assembled in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lego is from Denmark, see below. But I love these Volvo vids, in the late 90s and early 2000s I owned 3 Volvo V40s in the UK, and they were the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Even though they were manufactured in the Netherlands in the old DAF works, they were engineered with Swedish efficiency. My last car I owned from new for 13 years and 115000 miles, apart from tyres, brake pads and oil changes, it was as good as new, same exhaust system and battery from the factory in all that time.

Just a top tip. When removing the steeringwheel. There is a torx t10 in the steeringwheel. The t10 is ment to screw into the steeringwheel anglesensor. So you don't mess up the sensor by turning it 360° and even destroying it. It's not a cheep part to replace. So use the t10 everytime you take off the steering wheel. 🙂 Anyway. Keep up the good work. @@ElliottAlvis Of course, I wish you well in your endeavors. I can say that the V70R was an awesome wagon up to about the first 5 years. It was fast, reliable and got a lot of looks from people who ended up surprised by just how quick it was. It reminded me of my first European wagon, a VW Passat GLX with the VR6 engine. It too was great up until the point that the high heat of the engine bay (it was a bottom breather, so clearly not getting enough fresh air) started cooking every line and wire. But I loved the BBS wheels it had and that classic German handling and high quality interior made it awesome for road tripping.

Yo best KSTuber...those blades come with adapters that fit all styles, unless you get the Bosch ones that have OE at the end of the part number. Stay away from rain x blades, they suck. I've been working in auto parts for 12 years now and have owned and worked on multiple 2000 to 2005 Volvos for 6 years now so if you ever need guidance or help just let me know.

The hook-type wiper says 'Volvo 60 series', so that would imply an S60. And the hook-mounting was common on Ford Mondeo models, which the S60 is a variant of. (The V70 is as well, but you still had original Volvo arms on it...)

@bweebar
@bweebar 2 жыл бұрын
The S60 is not a variant of a Mondeo, the S60, V70, S80, XC70 and XC90 are Volvo P2 platform cars, the Ford D3 platform was a later offshoot of the P2 platform. The hook type wiper arms were pre-facelift and the aero type was post-facelift.
@Stoney3K
@Stoney3K 2 жыл бұрын
@@bweebar Those hook-type wiper arms were definitely shared with the Fords as well as a lot of other components. I've had the exact same wiper arms on my old Focus. The commonality is a lot less than the P1 (C30/S40/V50) cars and the Focus, obviously, because those were built at the same assembly line.
@GoldenCroc
@GoldenCroc 2 жыл бұрын
@@Stoney3K Dont know if "shared" is the correct terminology when it comes to s60/v70/s80 of this generation, Ford bought the company after the platform had launched, so its more like Ford used volvo parts in their cars, nothing was developed to be shared from the start, I dont think. Funnily enough, Ford used "the volvo font" and other volvo parts in Aston Martin in places. Always make me chuckle when I see it.

In Europe, while most associate cars by the countries that they are made (VW/BMW/Mercedes = Germany, Volvo/Saab = Sweden etc.,), most of the "lesser" technologically advanced parts are made in lesser affluent EU & near EU countries. One such place is Spain, whose Seat history has made it an ideal place for other companies to source their oil & air filters, along with some basic bearings and sensors too. Other countries of origin for parts include Hungary, Poland, Turkey and even some from Bulgaria & Bosnia. And of course, most companies have a presence in Mexico to address the US market. Just a fun fyi.
