When asked about the key to his success, I.M. Pei once said, "Architecture must have integrity, like a true friend". Never failing to reflect an emphasis on precision geometry, plain surfaces and natural light, his work was both understated and jaw-dropping a balance between the ancient and the contemporary, the east and the west. This unique study in contrasts has forever secured him an unparalleled position in the world of design.

I have no dog in this fight. But the history of Pei includes a lot of dogs. I got interested in this guy because I bought a photo of him by a famous photographer. (Karsh) And I studied his work, as I lived around the world. -The HK Chinese blamed him for the sharp edges in the Bank of China Building for being extremely bad feng shui and blame his building for causing major problems for HK. The sharp edges shred Hong Kong, supposedly. Shocking he would not know these basics about feng shui. -The Hancock Building in Boston was a big flop which led to a lot of lawsuits for the design flaws which led to the windows breaking when it was completed. Litigation lasted for years between Pei's firm, the glass makers and the owners. -The Pei Plan to rejuvenate Oklahoma city had very mixed results. *read was a flop. -Javits Convention Center in NYC had huge cost overruns, and most New Yorkers do not like it, from my time there. -The Pyramid for the Louvre was very controversial. My opinion- weird but not bad. I liked the light but why use pyramids when you are talking about European culture. -lots of structural problems in his first giant project, The National Center for Atmospheric Research near Boulder, Colorado. The clay soil shifted and caused huge cracks that were expensive to repair. On the other hand, many of his buildings, including the ones above became key landmarks for the cities in which they were built. I would love to know from some of the people who worked in his buildings about whether they were pleasant buildings to actually return to, on a daily basis. I might even do my very first youtube video to ask this question. I am interested.

I am Suzhounese, and a landscape architecture student. People from my city adore the Suzhou Museum. From a professional perspective, the museum was well-designed and well-integrated. It really seems ahead of its time, and after almost 20 years I still see its vitality. I always visit there when I am back to my country.

I was just recently in Hong Kong two separate times and was told these stories from the locals regarding the bad design of the bank building. The neighboring skyscrapers turned their window washing cranes that look like cannons in the direction of his building to ward away any bad energy. They blame the building for major financial issues for the whole region.

okayy. now do Frank Lloyd Wright and all the problems of each of his famous projects... and then after you're finished with that, look into all the problems of each of Frank Gehry's projects... after that look into Phillip Johnson's projects
