As requested I am watching The Old Guard! A pretty fun action movie. Still leaving me with some questions of how things work, and what's next to come. I'd give it a strong 7 - light 8/10. Great acting, action, soundtrack and overall concept. Left me wanting more, and would recommend!

I actually liked that their only power was that they were immortal. Because it shows that the only reason they're all so impressive is lots and lots of time and experience.

They didn’t explain why they are immortal because the characters themselves don’t know why. The creator of the characters has not revealed the reason in the comics as yet

I fucking LOVE this movie! So glad you reacted to it! You mentioned a few times about their sole ability to heal and not having anything else, and honestly it's one of the things I love about this story. It keeps it from being another run of the mill superhero movies. Also the fact that they all just look like normal people? No overly muscular guys who's actor's have had to do insane workout programmes and dehydrate themselves for takes? Nile wearing practical boots and not high heels? We love that in this house! Andy is aproximately 6000 years old btw. VERY old. Along with the loss of Quynh just how long she has lived and watched humanity make the same mistakes, go to war after war....by the point at which we, the audience, join their story Andy is just tired. Also yes, Andy is pansexual and she and Quynh were definitely together in the past before, you know....iron coffin. You asked what Nile meant by "She's in it. She can't see it". Basically Andy (and the group) helps save someone's life and they move on. They can't stick around to see how things go, lest their secret be discovered. They have no IDEA the impact they've actually had on people's lives beyond the initial save for literally thousands of years. They just had to hope they were doing the right thing, and live and learn from their mistakes as best they could. Never being 100% sure. Joe and Nicky, despite not having many scenes, have such good, deep moments! I mean, I literally had to pause the movie the first time I watched it after Joe's speech in the van it moved me so much. How many other movies would have gone down the 'immediately get violent' route (if they would even have a openly gay couple in the first place and not just play it all off as a no homo joke)? Not many would have an impassioned speech about love! And omg, the way they talk about their relationship, the way they seek each other out first after reviving, the way they hold each other while sleeping! They've been together for almost 1000 years and you can feel the depth of their relationship in just those few moments. And you hit the nail on the head with how this movie makes you feel for all of them. Booker losing his kids...what loving parent wouldn't be inconsolable after that? And in such a tragic way too? Nile slowly understanding that she can't go home. She has to walk away from her old life, if for no other reason than to keep her family safe. None of the immortals chose this. None of them know why it happened. And I personally like a story that makes you think and theorise. Come up with possibilites or give it your own meaning! Thanks again for reacting to this!

It was a great watch! I can't wait for the next one. whatever I said about the next one in this review was completely wrong, and I see everyone is returning and Quynh is going to be a big part in it. I'm mainly hoping to see Nile return to her family one last time. And thanks for clearing that scene up for me! I've got a few movie movies you requested coming out soon so be on the look out for more!

They dream of each other, so Nile would keep seeing Quyhn die in that same box. Unless she sees some unique defining features, she's unlikely to figure out which spot in an endless ocean Quyhn is in exactly. Even if you saw plantlife or animals, that still doesn't necessarily narrow it down. Also, Book has also been dreaming of Quyhn for about 200 years now. If he wasn't able to narrow it down enough so they could find her, it's unlikely Nile's dreams are going to give them new information. Them not knowing what keeps them waking up after they die is actually why I like it. They are unsure of why they were chosen, what they even really are. Is it magic? Is it a god? No idea. Nicky clearly believes there's a higher power behind it, and Nile is also religious, so she likely agrees with that, but Andy is over 6000 years old by now, she has seen religions come and go, so she doesn't really believe in any religion. I kind of like that it's never explained at all, means you can just fill in your own interpretation. Being a marine doesn't mean you have to be okay with killing up close and personal. There is a difference between being trained to shoot someone and slaughtering a whole army with an ax. Booker did betray them but I also get him. He's been super depressed at least since his family died, seems to be a functioning alcoholic whose liver repairs itself, so he doesn't really show symptoms, has been dreaming of drowning for 200 years... Like. I can understand where he's coming from. He needs a shitload of therapy. Booker/therapy is a pretty common tag for fanfics even. XD I've read a lot of character study fanfics about Booker, he's sad depressed raccoon man, and he just wants out. A post on, I think it was tumblr, about Booker, was about how he didn't want to be immortal at all, and him letting them all be researched on is his way to talk to the manager. :P "Yeah, I'm new" and a goddamn idiot XD Why did she even decide shooting herself was the best option here? XD Andy never followed up on the people she saved, so she had no idea what the results are. "She's in it" is like the saying, not seeing the forest for the trees, she's too close, she can't see the whole picture. People heard shots, they likely ran away. I love Nicky and Joe, they're just so good together. I love Joe's speech in the van, and Nicky is there in the background like "you always do this, long impassioned speeches, I love you, drama queen." I think you kind of missed somehow that Quyhn was still underwater when Nile dreamed of her for the first time. Quyhn has been dying and reviving and dying and reviving for hundreds of years, she didn't stay dead underwater, she woke up and drowned over and over and over again. The group is called the old guard. They're old and they guard humanity. ;)

Its so refreshing that they don't have some bs superpowers to me. There is currently no rhyme or reason to why they are immortal but that just makes it more compelling because they don't know what their purpose is (like literally all humans). They have to struggle and find their own purpose in life with no higher power telling them why. You just have to be open minded enough to accept not having all the answers. Hopefully we'll have Joe and Nicky's origin flashbacks in the next movie. Quynh's coffin most likely rusted after 500 years, the group spent many years looking for her in the beginning.

yay, nice reaction! i love this movie so much. however, as much as I love it, I always thought this particular storyline with the pharma guy was not the right first story to tell? lol idk. this premise has so much room to explore and I guess I just kinda wish it was a tv anthology series or something. so I feel you on not totally knowing how things work. although I do enjoy the more philosophical bits because of the vagueness of their powers. Nicky has such a old soul way talking, he was a perfect choice to deliver those lines to Merrick. i think it would just be cool to see the history -- having main characters than are literal walking pieces of history is a prime source of storytelling tbh. the movie is based on some graphic novels, so it always bugged me that the film was so vague about Andy's age. You learn her age in the first few pages of the first graphic novel haha. Your point about Nile being a marine but not wanting to initially help andy ... i kinda got that was more about the marine's never really teaching them how to cope with killing someone, which she was still struggling with throughout the movie. so when she saw the carnage andy brought on, it kinda freaked her out a little. i hope nile gets to see her family too. just because booker had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone will have the same reaction. in the graphics, nile is more our avatar into the story. for the film, she's way more fleshed out so I hope that means they will explore more with her family and her internal thoughts / feelings about immortality. super excited for the next movie. thanks for this reaction!

Yeah you know as a movie, this felt very based. Like I’ve seen this movie before just the plot and characters are different. Since it’s based on a comic it probably would’ve served the story better to be told episodically but despite the situation is was still really fun. I like to imagine Nile being your stereotypical millennial (especially with the use of music like frank ocean, seemingly being used to tell her story). She’s way more grounded than the rest of them being she’s a brand new immortal, and like any millennial, we’d probably freak tf out but take it in stride. So that’s why I’m rooting for her to see her family again and make peace with the situation. And Of course seeing Quynh who’s probably just as deadly as Andy but less sympathetic Glad you enjoyed ☺️

If you are interested in the immortality aspect, you should check out "A Man From Earth". It's an older, low budget movie that is based on a play. It's more of a thought experiment in a movie. It all takes place in a single cabin and it's all discussion. There is no action, but it is a fascinating look at what immortality would mean long term and how it would be to essentially evolve as a person as society evolves through the ages. I watched it years ago and it really stuck with me. Anyways, love the reactions, you are doing a great job! I greatly enjoyed this movie. Like you, I do wish they would have explained more, but the fight scenes were awesome.

The fact that it seems the ones chosen to be immortal are soldiers or warriors with combat skills. And elite soldier that cant die. Deadly on its own

So, no comment about the van scene or the Nicky/Joe scene in the lab? Did their relationship bother you or something? They are literally the first gay "superhero" type characters ever and you saw no reason to discuss it???
