Great story. She was and is a beautiful lady, lucky husband. I get really pissed when I read a story of some poor person who has gone through something like this and the spouse ditches them.
@jilljones3664
@jilljones3664 4 жыл бұрын
The spouse doesn’t always ditch them just because they look different. Sometimes when people go through a trauma or illness that completely changes their body image they also have a complete personality change. On top of that they may refuse to get counseling even though they can’t move past the change in their appearance or ability to go about their activities of daily living. If the person in question develops low self esteem they often become abusive to their spouse. So know what you’re talking about before you start jumping to negative conclusions about people who you don’t even know.

hobo_billy sicadelic As a 30+ year LEO,Hunter Outdoorsman , my experiences say I have to disagree with you. OC,Bear Spray is not effective under certain circumstances such as during Windy Weather. People who enter wilderness areas should be familiar with the surrounding areas and be healthy enough and be Knowledgable of the various species of wildlife in the area. Knowing the capabilities and vulnerabilities of such animals as well. As well as be skilled with use of self defence implements and laws governing such. If legally allowed one has the option to carry a Handgun,Charged Cell Phone,Knife,Bear,Spray,Whistle and Powerful Flashlight etc. To be Ready to employ such implements if needed at any given moment may indeed save your or others lives
@jilljones3664
@jilljones3664 4 жыл бұрын
Bear spray is harder to use against cougars than it is with bears because cougars are smaller and extremely agile. On top of that cougars often surprise their victims by attacking from behind and sinking their fangs into the back of the victim’s neck.

These attacks will happen more and more. There are few deer to eat in the wild because our Fish and Wildlife, in search of money, has over-harvested them. They elongated the hunting season (cutting into the deer's breeding season) in order to increase their revenue -- now there are over 5000 mountain lions in california (up from 500, 30 yrs ago), and a dwindling deer population, compared to before these new policies. The agency in charge of protecting wildlife, has sacrificed the deer in order to line its own pockets. Hence its only a matter of time till it (unless it starves to death first),attacks a human. Google TJ Elsbury for more info

Ryan b More likely to die of hunger than risk taking down an equal or larger animal (you) that it does not understand or see as prey. All you need to do is not be a dumb-ass and run away or feed it. Also leave some deer for them.

+LeoInterHyenaem Wow what an asshole. Most of the time people who hunt are actually funding conservation efforts. And part of the reason why mountain lions attack people is 1) they're easy prey and 2) their natural habitat is being destroyed by people in California building homes everywhere. A quick Google search on the decline of California deer population could've told anyone that, but apparently that's too difficult for you :)

ct92404 You're thoughtfully confused. Don't worry, it's genetic: one can't do a thing about it. I guess, with your IQ you're totally unable to associate with animals, only with filth.

i am sooo glad she was okay and cudos to her friend for being so brave!! i wish though, that they had just caught the cougar and put it in a zoo - it must have been very hungry to stick around like it did. i also have never heard before exactly how they kill. if the cougar had hit an artery or vein in her neck, it would have been very bad - she was really lucky in that. and lucky that they got her away before she suffocated. the surgeons were absolutely amazing - connecting nerve fibers and putting her cheek back together. . . sometimes doctors are just incredible. . . and she and her guy are doing so well - good!!!!!!

I am an animal lover as well but the lion had to be put down because it would have kept killing. I don't like killing animals but when the animal is sick or has got a taste for humans you have to do the best thing for the animal as well and for the public.
@GoBlue576966
@GoBlue576966 7 жыл бұрын
Kim, it was habituated to humans. It wasn't sick, it wasn't craving humans. It had become accustom to humans and thus attacked the first biker. Ann was the victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She came too close to the kill and the cat attacked. California is notorious for the Fish and Game protecting lions from hunting and they have done a good number on their regular prey, mule deer. In addition to the habituation, that drought will also damage deer numbers. Mountain lions don't even eat the flesh of deer, let alone humans. They carve open the chest cavity and eat the heart and lungs. Only at last resort do they eat muscle and that is when they can't kill another mule deer. This cat was NOT sick or developed a taste for humans. It was habituated and and found an easy way to get a meal. Nothing more, nothing less.

i think i remember hearing about this one, i would have been 6 or 7 at the time, but i did grow up in Mission Viejo. Now i have never really mountain biked personally, but i was constantly told to stay with the group i went with, and never go alone. Yes, i feel bad for the guy that got killed, but if the only person aware of his possible presence was the guy inspecting the bike, to an extent, he was looking for trouble. And in this case, he found it. As it was, she got lucky there were enough people in the area to fight it off, and luckier the mountain lion didnt clip an artery.

Unfortunately that Mountain Lion decided it was hungry and not afraid of attacking. It's a good thing the local sheriff's went in and killed it. Man eating animals are dangerous. This one was probably in need of food and was desperate before it attacked.

The cougar had just killed another victim a few hours earlier. That’s not typical cougar behavior to ambush a second victim within a few hours. I wonder what his deal was. Usually they consume part of their kill and then drag what’s left of their victim’s body to a hiding place where they feed on it for several days

Of course kill the poor mountain lion even though it did absolutely nothing wrong. Those bikers were risking their lives going into mountain lion territory so why should the lion have had to pay for their stupidity. Why is our reaction to animal attacks on humans always to shoot and kill the poor animal who is totally innocent. If I ever became the victim of an animal attack I would demand that the animal not be harmed in any way.
