On March 31, 2021, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle which resulted in an OWI arrest in Racine, WI. The driver happened to have two children under the age of two so they were moved into a squad car temporarily. While a family member was on their way to take custody of them, a Wisconsin State Trooper assisted the traffic stop by blocking a lane of traffic. Moments later, the State Trooper was rear-ended by another impaired driver.

Hear Hear. When I think that my first car was a (then) 13 year old rust bucket Ford Cortina. The whole interior was 99% metal with no plastic padding, no head rests, no seat belts, no ABS, no traction control, no collapsible steering column, no air bags, no crumple zones, no laminate windscreen, drum brakes all round - a complete death trap.

My little sister and her boyfriend were on the interstate doing about 75 mph. A car going the opposite direction suffered a suspension failure and suddenly jerked into oncoming traffic and hit my sister and her boyfriend head on going 75 mph. She not only walked away uninjured but actually the most severe injury she suffered were burns from the air bag deployment. Other than that she was just just a little sore and bruised up in a few places. I also went out and bought an Audi because thats what they were in.

@@hughjanus2781 I don't know about that one dude. Those old cars were solid steel. The OLD steel, not the new steel. I'll never forget years ago when I was a boy, my grandmother had a good friend who got into a severe accident. She was hit and it wasn't her fault. Her heel was injured but that's it. She was driving one of those big tanks from the mid '70's. The cop told her the big car saved her life. Also, back in the 90's I had a 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood. One night, I was T-boned by some kid in a small red sports car. On the drivers side. My car was bent almost into the shape of a V. The cops estimated he was going at least 25 to 30 MPH over the speed limit around a blind curve. He was in bad shape and was taken, unconscious, to the hospital. The only thing that happened to me was that due to the door being hit, it split apart the window controls and door locks where my arm was resting and the metal cut through my jacket and cut my elbow. To this day I can remember the cop putting his arm around me and saying 'son...you're lucky you were driving this big car. If you were driving a car like the kid who hit you, we'd be scraping you off the pavement right now!" The car had no airbags, no modern safety features, and I was NOT wearing a seatbelt. Which is why, even to this day, I drive a full size SUV. Although I know its not the old kind of steel cars were made from, it still offers good protection.

What impresses me most about this video: The progression of car safety technology. He rear-ended a stationary SUV at 70mph, and while he did get a broken knee, he was still mobile enough that he opened the door and was trying to get out of his car. The deputy who got rear-ended appeared to be pretty much fine. If these had been 1970s cars, with the same type and speed of collision, the impaired driver would have had a closed-casket funeral, and the deputy who got rear-ended would either have been dead or paralyzed for life.

Cop cars are engineered to take hits like that. If you go through the fleet section of the auto manufacturer's website and look at their police cruisers they are usually rated for upwards of 70 mph rear impacts while protecting the driver. It's amazing what we can engineer.

@@Saxophone_King Correct...though it's actually a little higher at 75 mph. You can't buy a equivalent Ford SUV to the police inceptor though which is what pisses me off(would need to get one used at an auction) Ever since I've been rear ended by some distracted Gen Z driver I've been trying to find something engineered like the police inceptors. This video is also a perfect example of why you shouldn't change a tire or try to fix a faulty engine on the side of the highway. Someone I knew was literally cut in half this way. He was trying to fix a blown gasket, "safely" in the breakdown lane on the highway. But a drunk driver fixated on his hazard lights and hit the car from behind while he was standing in front of the engine bay. It wasn't a pretty sight. If you have a flat tire, or an engine issue, do NOT try to fix it anywhere near a highway. Either try to limp your disabled vehicle to an off-ramp and into a suburban street or quiet area, or stay in your car (seatbelt on) and call a tow truck or mobile mechanic for help. Once you've assessed your situation, and if it's safe, exit the car and stand behind the highway barricades. There are literally thousands of drunk/high scum like the guy in this video driving around at any one time.
@AJVD2123
@AJVD2123 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, however an experience I had in May 2021 has me questioning the seatbelt thing. I was driving along when a guy cut off a semi and his rear end clipped the semi and sent him into the concrete barrier in the left lane. The guy got out of his car and started freaking out. I keep telling him to get back in, he finally listens after an SUV rolled after swerving to miss him. The next car slammed into the back of him, ejecting him out his passenger door as his car went up in flames immediately and was engulfed. He only broke his arm. Maybe he was lucky but seeing that happen really makes you wonder if seatbelts should be worn in certain circumstances or not.

Yup, I had to deal with a blown tire a few months ago when I was going to visit a friend in Colorado. Pulled off to the side to change the tire and had a state trooper pull up behind me, he told me that it would be safer to drive the extra one hundred feet and pull off the road (I didn't realize there was an offramp just a hundred feet or so since this happened in the mountains) but I took his advice and did just that. He stayed behind me since I couldn't go very fast and even after I off the expressway, he stayed and helped me change the tire. On the way back I saw a terrible accident on the road and found out when I got home that a different driver was doing what I was doing: changing their tire, and got struck by a mustang going 90. That driver, sadly, was killed (the eighteen year driving the mustang wasn't)

I cannot comprehend how lenient they are with drunk driving in the state of Wisconsin ! It's INSANITY that repeat offenders are still allowed to drive !! On the opposite end of the spectrum, in the country of El Salvador, driving while intoxicated can be punishable by death ! We need a rational balance somewhere.

@@oldschool1970skid While I don't support the death penalty, I would absolutely love to see drunk drivers who kill people be charged with murder. My logic is that getting into a car and driving it while you're drunk is intent. Anyone smart enough to operate a vehicle is smart enough to understand the consequences of drunk driving. Doing so, knowing what the result can be, is intentional. Knowing what you're doing is wrong and doing it anyway is intentional. Hitting a person or vehicle while drunk driving is intentional.

A cop friend of mine was rear-ended a few years ago and it noticably messed him up a lot and it didn't even look all the bad (the photos of the cars). But he still gets light headed all the time, still has neck problems, he's more easily annoyed, and he's just different. Luckily he's a good man and notices these things so he tries to work on them and not let them effect others but it just goes to show that even an accident that isn't even all that bad looking can change a person forever

Secondly for them to remember something they've likely never practiced more than once if ever and to execute it perfectly.
