Saying things, which sounds like his targets own thoughts, yet lead to a different - or even opposite - result would make the victims of those think, that they made a mistake somewhere, their goals were wrong from the beginning, or not even noticing the way they are going. It needs wisdom and attention to notice it? Yes. But often that's not enough - if you do not expect to be betrayed, it's pretty hard to avoid it. Even harder, if the one who does it, is someone, who you believed that it's ideas are the same as yours. Without the doubt toward the other, you will not even expect such - therefor near impossible to notice.

I love Erebus' backstory. It's, like, if a TV evangelist realized one day that there really _are_ gods who could offer him even more power and money and said, "Fuck yeah! Sign me right up! So many amazing characters in 40k. Erebus the only true believer in chaos but only because its his nature, perterabo the productive genius cutting himself short with perpetual manchild enotional connectionwith others, magnus the seeker of knowledge betrayed by those he loved being forced to turn to chaos, conrad curz the one driven mad by seeing the future knowing he was to be cast aside as the bloodthirsty tyrant, alpharius the one doing everything ur not supposed to acting as a spie or possibly not and only their god emperor can know the truth not even the inquisition knows, n so many more. Maybe i need to take the pilgrimage like the word bearers. Cleanse shame of being wrong in your peoples falsehoods and conceptual lies n become undivided.

It's fascinating to me that the deeply anti-religion juggernaut that is 40k has been able to dodge controversy unlike MTG or D&D. I think it's because to see how deeply anti-religion it is you basically need to be a 40k lore scholar and most of the zealots who try to "right-wing cancel" things like this never look deeply enough into anything. I say bravo 40k for showing some of most dangerous (and amoral) people in the world are the ones who praise their god the most.
