Hello! Why did you change the categorical variable (Gender) from its original label to values (0, 1)?

I uploaded a .xlsx file to SPSS. In the Variable View screen, I changed the data type from String to Numeric. After making it, in Data View screen, I find that entries for that variable have been deleted completely. How I can fix it?

J'ai fait plusieurs tentatives infructueuses d'importation d'un fichier Excel (.xls) sans succès. Je m'explique. Tout se déroule normalement en apparence jusqu'à l'obtention d'une copie du fichier dans SPSS (version 20). Dans la rubrique "Affichage des données" tout est bien recopié. Mais dans l'onglet "Affichage des Variables" , les variables sont toutes au format "chaîne" et toute tentative de modification (au format numérique : 4 variables sur 5) entraîne le remplacement des données par des zéros. ??? A l'aide s'il vous plaît !!!

I've been trying this but it won't work. Every time I attempt to open the excel document in excel it says 'Error accessing the Excel file. If the file is open in another application, please close it and retry.' I have tried this several times and it still won't open. I even tried renaming the file and copying the content to a brand new excel document/window and that still doesn't work. Could it be due to the version of excel and or SPSS I have? where both of them aren't compatible or something like that?
