@andrea: You have found the Masterclass in Mac instruction!!! And don't forget there is the transcript ( in the show more area) if you need it ... I copy and paste some of them if there is too much to remember 👍 (I advise to hit the 3 dots and get rid of the time stamp if you do copy it.. easier to read)

Thanks, Gary! I am a longtime macbook owner and iphone user (9+ years). I've often default to AirDrop for quick file transfers, until I recorded my first 4K video file that spans 1hr 40 mins (a workshop presentation for my best friend). I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to get the file off the phone, and here you are with the perfect find. I hadn't used Image Capture in ages (2012-15 maybe? back to college for me). I'd forgotten all about it and I don't know how. And now thanks to you, I'll do my best to always remember it. My heart (and best friend) thanks you very much. You helped patch a bridge in my creative workflow and totally saved my weekend. Sending love.

I had been using Adobe Bridge or Lightroom’s Local Browse feature to manage photos before importing them into Lightroom (i.e., the Adobe Cloud) and, for a lightweight option, Finder. Image Capture is a lightweight option that is actually designed for images. I had no idea this application even existed! Thank you, Gary!

Also can you please make a video on how to access iPhone and iPad contents from Mac when you connect through cable….i have been air dropping most of stuff around …there might be better way to seamlessly transfer data via cable….i don’t want to go the iCloud route…iCloud is great but i already pay for OneDrive Thank You for all the learnings ❤

I mean iCloud Drive is the way to do it. Just because you use OneDrive doesn't mean you can't also use iCloud Drive. In most cases you should be able to save files to OneDrive on your iPhone and iPad too. Depends on the app.

Hilarious: Last week I bought an iPad for $1600 just to backup photos I take while on holiday. Couldn't get it to recognize my DSLR camera when I plugged it in - obviously I was looking in the wrong place (I am accustomed to windows devices where my camera instantly appears as a device on my desktop. Anyway, returned the iPad to the Apple store explaining to the "tech" why I was returning it.... No mention of the Image Capture App, no explanation of where to look for a plugged-in DSLR, they just refunded my $1600 and lost the business. Thanks Macmost for being such a resource, though I will probably just trust my DSLR to survive the trip as I did before (or get a Microsoft Surface). Once home, I can now get them into my home Mac Studio a lot easier.

Lol! I dropped $400 on a law enforcement grade bodycam. It sat in the box in my office for probably over a year. When I finally thought about testing it for the field, I found out it only works on windows and nothing Apple has available. Since I was way out of the satisfaction period, I bought a windows laptop to use exclusively for that bodycam. I occasionally post those videos and have to copy to a usb drive and drop the footage into iMovie on a MacBook Pro that I have had since…2012. I think your situation is a little better than mine. Lol.

Would be wonderful if Apple got with the program and added the ability to preview RAF (Fujifilm) RAW files (that are in the compressed RAW format). No way will I shoot uncompressed RAW just to get previews. It’s borderline criminal that Apple hasn’t given users this basic functionality.

Would storing my main Photos library on an external SSD connected to my MacBook Pro make sense if I have a huge library I don't want in iCloud and don't want taking up my Mac's internal 1TB HD space? I use icloud ($0.99/mo) on my iphone and dump photos when it gets full. I don't want to pay to store my whole photo life in iCloud. I back it all up to Amazon Photos mostly for free with Prime. Love your thoughts. Thank you!
@macmost
@macmost 3 ай бұрын
It sounds like you have ruled out the things I would recommend, and storing your library on an external drive is all you have left. I use iCloud because I love having all of my photos available to me everywhere. I also have a large enough internal drive to keep my library fully local too. Having it on an external SSD works, but it is slower than the internal SSD, and now you are stuck having it attached to your now-less-portable MacBook Pro all the time.

I got a question for you. it seems when I open a folder of pics with "preview". I have to click on each picture to view it. Is there a way to have an arrow button on the view page to click to go to the next picture? I know I can use the right or left arrow key on the keyboard to change pictures but it would be nice if there was an arrow key on the view page to click with my mouse. That is one thing I miss with windows. I guess the keyboard arrow kets wont let me advance to next picture if I am in full picture view mode.
