This week’s episode is about democracy and how we can protect it and foster people to be part of it. According to the Dutch constitution, every vote weighs equally. We asked our students ”Does your vote really count?”. They discuss the impact voting could have, if everyone should participate. One vote equals just one voice. All voices and opinions together have more impact. However, many individuals are unable, unwilling, or choose not to vote. This raises questions about the representativeness of electoral outcomes for society as a whole. For instance, Arman, student Public Administration Science, examines how representatives are elected, their influence, and methods for addressing related challenges. Nina highlights that trust in politics is historically low at this point; within the Political Science programme, students explore pathways for improvement.
