It's a sleeting-cold day, so join us for a cup of tea as we share a few valuable life lessons that ballet has taught us- more than just technique and ballet steps.
Hopefully, this video will help you to see your ballet classes with a fresh perspective and appreciate the unlimited value you receive each time you step into the studio.
What has ballet taught you?
How are you a better person having taken ballet?
Or if you're a ballet enthusiast, what do you appreciate about ballet?
We'd love to know in the comments!
Grace to you,
Jordan & Eden

Adding to everything you said (all of which I wholeheartedly agree with) being able to go “showtime!” And just switch on and sell it no matter how crappy or unprepared you feel - that really helps in life. I don’t perform professionally but I perform a lot nonetheless in many genres. I also have a corporate job where I have to meet with very scary and intimidating people. The kind of concentration and show must go on and sell it even if you don’t feel it attitude has helped me in job interviews and very important meetings. As someone who is not that naturally confident and tends to overthink everything, that on/off switch I attained through my decades of performance is something that I think ONLY performing arts can teach you.

Omg anyone who is a supportive “lady at the front desk” thank you so much!!! So many of them in so many settings. I don’t know what I would do without them 😭 Even as an adult but especially when I was as a child

Our ballet teacher taught us this, if the teacher says to do this, you gotta do it no matter what. 😅

I looked at a class without corrections as a class I failed. It seemed to me if the teacher corrected me, he thought I had the ability to do better; if he didn't correct mistakes, I thought it meant he thought I couldn't improve.

Do we share the same brain?? 😂 Haha Thanks for this, that’s such a good way to approach ballet- embracing corrections. You cannot fail :)

I was taught early to listen to all the teacher's corrections, even those not given specifically to me, and to apply them if appropriate. Very helpful.

I'm an adult beginner to dance and the first thing it taught me was how out of shape I was. Holy crap my body is so sore and I feel so tired. I also feel like if I had any level of ego it would teach me humility because EVERYTHING IS HARD! Entirely worth it though. I always feel great after a class.

Ballet can definitely be humbling, not just for beginners! But you’re absolutely right, it is SO fulfilling even in the midst of the soreness and pain. Keep at it! Proud of you for sharing 🩰

To Jordan’s lesson - how about “esprit de corps”? A feeling of belonging to a group, working as a group, being loyal to that group, and being proud of being part of that group.
@balletreign
@balletreign Жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you!!! It’s so important to be mindful of the group you’re in and to truly understand the value of being in a group. Sometimes we get caught up in wanting to pull ahead in front of the rest, but being humble enough to work for the common good is what truly makes one rise. Thanks so much for sharing!

I dance in a more recreational, less strict and smaller studio, and perhaps the most important thing for me is understanding that even if some steps may seem simple or boring, I can always challenge myself and focus on various aspects of my technique to improve it even more. Btw I love your videos ❤
@balletreign

That’s a very mature perspective to have in your situation. Mastering all the foundational steps are what will give you success in the “fun” steps later on. Glad you enjoy our videos, thank you for watching! ❤️

I moved from a chill, relaxed, recreational studio, to a strict pre-professional studio when I was 12. I had many issues in my body that seemed like they couldn't be fixed, like a lack of ab strength, sickled feet, and bad posture. I was not able to go on pointe until I was 13-14. I hated myself and my body for this. But I learned that I had so much more strength and resilience and consistency than I thought I did. It wasn't like I could ask for it to be fixed, and I had to grow up very quickly and learn to improve and take care of my body because I jumped from 2hrs/week to 10hrs/week. This still sticks with me and helps me day by day to continue to improve.

This was something I've never thought about and have never seen discussed. So interesting, and it makes sense. Ballet has probably lost promising dancers who couldn't or wouldn't adapt to the mental demands/requirements.

Oh, yes, the body's boundaries! Like Jordan, I also used to push myself to and past injuries. Yep, a very dangerous strategy and one that more teachers and directors should caution against.

Yes! Such an important issue in dance and glad others can relate with us who push ourselves to unhealthy levels. Had to learn from it, and hope others can too. Thanks for sharing!

I love how wholesome and supporting your videos are, particularly since there are a ton of stereotypes about ballet that portray it as being more toxic. And I feel like everything you mention here is applicable to so many areas in life, regardless of what it is. I'd love to see you doing a collab with @ThePointeShop and be able to reach even more people.

Love this, thank you so much ❤️ Ballet does not have to be all that it’s sometimes portrayed to be. There are so many wonderful people on here who love ballet and we’re hopeful there’s much more positive in the ballet world when we come together to share the good and “wholesome” appreciation for the art. And YES, would love to do a collab with @ThePointeShop one day. That would be really fun!

I haven't danced ballet since I was a little girl, but your commentary is great. You guys are fun to watch. I will admit, I subscribed mainly to get you to 1K so you can get monetized! May the algorithm be ever in your favor.

Hi! Sorry to comment this in a non reaction video, but a Ballet themed anime released in 2022 called "Dance Dance Danseur" which you might find interesting to react to (at least to the dancing portrayed). The anime is about a young boy called Junpei who has to attend a ballet performance (which he finds very dull), but immediately is drawn to the display of emotion and artistry. After the death of his father, he decides to do something more "masculine" thus straying away from ballet. His passion, however, is reignited at age 14 after watching two classmates dancing.
