Might be a bit of a cope, but I like to headcanon it as a matter of confidence/tone/etc. when skill checks like these happen; tone tends to get lost in text, after all. The failed check has the Courier say that Mr. House must be "a brain in a jar", implying even a total moron would know that Mr. House is using some batshit crazy technology to live this long. I'd assume having a high enough medicine is a sort of "knowing enough to know you don't know" situation. In other words, by stating the obvious, you're implying "I have no idea how you're alive, but it's probably more complicated than my first guess." Because you don't jump to conclusions on what Mr. House's life support "must be", he recognizes that you probably _at least_ studied a bit medicine... which even that is hard to find in a post-apocalypse. And for that, you get a slight bit of respect. Or maybe he's just flattering you for his own reasons. That'd be 100% in-character. (As a side note, I love the foreshadowing on the failed check dialogue.)

Or, like a lot of house is saying, are lies. At this point in the game house is trying to convince you to serve him. He literally shows you a weapons test exhibition like you are some potential investor. When house says stuff like, “we’ll get to the moon in fifty years” he is lying to your face trying to make himself like the one try option. Yet if you choose his ending he does not immediately start opening schools factories for anything else like that. In fact the game point blank states that everyone lives get worse under house.

Fallout really pushes the narrative that it was money hungry, profit driven people and corporations that led the world to ruin. They didn't care at all about what damage they caused to the world so long as they got their money. And all House wants is a return to that old world. How could he possibly be the best option for anyone?

@@jameshenderson5705 I mean you don't have to buy or want those things to be corrupted by wealth. And think, if people's lives got better and more people felt they had a chance to live the "good life" without throwing it all away gambling what business would Vegas get? House does not want the poor man's life to get better because then he would be far less willing to spend a fortune to get a taste of the luxury Vegas offers. Bradburton over in Nuka World would be so pissed off if he found out House managed to preserve his whole body unlike him and maintained the ability to interact with the outside world by using Robots…whereas Bradburton was stuck as a head that had to stare at a wall for 200 years…and this despite having let House build that Robco Battlezone in Nuka World.

Bradberton's life preservation plan was U.S. Government sponsored, as it was a part of his contract with the military to weaponize soda. Mr. House, being a brilliant visionary and inventor, could have theoretically invested in his own visions, with RobCo stepping in to help develop this unproven life preservation technology. Besides, a man like House wouldn't have been fooled by the contract Bradberton signed, and since House's life preservation was so advanced and unique, it'd only make sense that House, alongside RobCo, designed this machine ONLY for House. Though it is ironic that House likely wasn't offered the same contract, despite plenty of RobCo products going into active military service. There aren't any mentions of Bradberton's life preservation technology anywhere, likely meaning that it was meant to either feel or entirely be that it was only offered and given to Bradberton, instead of other important figures at the time.

Bradburton was not as meticulous as House, hence why he got screwed in his own way.

I wonder if House, if he succeeded in his goals, was looking into ways to improve his longevity to not be stuck as a mummified human in a stasis tube, keeping his body alive. I remember one of his comments about perhaps one day enjoying food again when dealing with the three tribes running the strip. So besides his idea of later offering this procedure to others, it seems he was looking into long-term a better outcome. I wonder if he was looking into cloning or new ways for tech to reverse the aging process somehow. Obviously, the issues with the NCR and Legion were more immediate attention as well to secure Hoover Dam with the platinum chip to acquire defense and energy to proceed onward. Would it have been interesting to know outside his desire to get humanity back to the level of pre-war civilization and beyond to the stars. How he would deal with keeping his still aging mind from eventually failing with current technology if nothing is done soon.

I know no one likes talking about Fallout 76 but there is an interesting piece of information relating to Mr. House and the CEO of Nuka Cola. In the Enclave base on one of the terminals, there is a discussion on an interesting project. We are not given the name but are told 2 tests were done by public companies, 2 tests were done by government funded agencies, and all the tests connect to projects Safe house/ the vault experiments. If you play Fallout 2, New Vegas, and 4 you will understand 4 of the 5 experiments. In Fallout 2 the Enclave tried to make mutations controllable by the FEV. Scientist that were part of that group would eventually join the Institute. It is possible in future Fallout installments the second government experiment to attempt to live forever or at least longer than a natural human will be a major or at least side plot point.

Its funny how many people came up with methods to survive the Great War. A few characters intentionally became ghouls. Honestly this is probably the most successful route that most people would have access to. One family lived like vampires to avoid aging by drinking their magical father's blood. Edge case that couldn't be applied to the general population. One vault put people into Robobrains and didn't do a mind wipe. Big MT did virtually the same thing, with less success. The genius' had long term memory problems that they resolved by doing partial memory wipes. Dr. Braum set up his virtual network with a selection of people he could selectively mind wipe and set up a variety of scenarios to keep himself entertained. All of the residents of Braum's private vault were effectively immortal and in what could be considered a virtual paradise...or hell. It didn't help that Braum had a god complex. Also if you spend a lot of time in the pods, you can't survive being disconnected. The worst immortality gimmick that you could replicate would be FEV exposure. Not just Super Mutants, any result of mutation from FEV exposure seemed to result in immortality. Becoming a Super Mutant is the most desireable result, regardless if you retain your intelligence and memories or not. You could end up as a Chimera, some random mutation like Harold or the Master, do we even know if Mutant Hounds are FEV exposed animals? Or were they people? Also some people die when exposed to FEV. The transformation into a Super Mutant can cause your brain activity to drop so low that you die. The Institute can extend life with their cybernetics and using synth parts on a human. That isn't actually immortal. Kellogg was dying, just very slowly. Suspended Animation isn't immortality either, it is literally just putting your life on pause. Did I miss anything?

Heres what doesn't make sense about Bethesda writing. Youre telling me that someone like Mr House had to settle with being a beef jerky mummy in a stasis tube for 200 years. But some random discharged vault dweller and his lawyer wife get to be in perfectly preserved cryo stasis? And apparently Vault Tec has multiple fully functional cryo vaults? And someone like Mr House doesnt get one? All because Bethesda wanted their hour long prolouge, we have another fucked up lore inconsistency
@creapyalbinofish
@creapyalbinofish 2 ай бұрын
House slipped into a coma shortly after the bombs dropped, he didn't wake up until a few decades before new vegas. His intention was to be awake, cognizant, and in control the entire time. Cryo stasis wouldn't do much to allow for this past just waking up after a while. While he would have been able to reach the 2200s without becoming a living mummy with stasis his plans were to begin rebuilding well before that.

One man, regardless of how fabulously wealthy and supposedly, self-purportedly intelligent he is, is not going to save ALL of humanity or all of Earth.
