In today's market it is hard to find anything in the 23' to 24' range under $75k. I walked the Miami Boat Show looking hard at all the boats and can say I found a 23' open that I would be proud to own. In this episode I walk all over the open model that features 3 piece construction, a flat deck from bow to stern and about 23 degree transom deadrise. Talking to Mike, he said we can get into the base model of this boat at $65k with a single 200hp outboard. Although I would prefer the 300hp mercury that we sea trialed, I think the 200hp will be a good fit when on a budget. During the sea trial, she rode like a much larger boat and felt very solid.

I personally have one of the first Reef Runners and love my boat. It’s built like a tank and I honestly don’t know of many boats that after 3 years of beating it up. I haven’t had to tighten a single screw and no spider cracks anywhere. Even after getting caught in some nasty weather several times. I’m upgrading soon to their bigger boat. Couldn’t be happier. Another great videos Mike, keep it up and tight lines.

I worked at a boat yard as a dry stack forklift operator / yard man and also was in the auxiliary 9 years. I've been on 1200 hp scarabs to 26 foot center console scouts with 300 hp. I bought a searay 215 ec for 13 no trailer. Installed a 7 Garmin chart plotter with 2 standard horizon vhfs. 240 efi motor with 240 hours and bought a venture trailer for 3000. 20,000 said and done. I would of liked a hard top and radar bought oh well I'm just a poor truck driver getting by. 4 months a year boating weather in Wisconsin. I really need to hit the lotto.

That is a good looking boat for that price! But If you're willing to be patient put the work in and possibly even travel to far a away destination you can find a great deal on a clean used boat for way under $70K , one thing I'd suggest is to narrow your search down to one or two specific model boats, although my application is likely different from most other peoples. I use my boat for commercial and charter fishing so I have other requirements. I have been running a 1997 Contender 23 that I've customized over the last 13 years. I found a barely used garage kept 2008 BlueWater 2550 in Nevada for $33K, sold the E-TEC for $6k. I had a custom T-Top fabricated with big E-Box, upper helm station with seat, rear fold down bench seat, commercial bug reel bracket (for king fishing) new Simrad EVO3 16" below & 9"display for upper station, HALO 24" radar, two VHF's with Digital antennas powered by a single Suzuki 300, I'll have around $65k - $70k in it when it's done.

New vs used, broker vs diy rebuild. Sure if you have the skills, space, tools, & time :) you can build or rebuild a sweet boat... But if they are giving it away, make sure not getting burned on repair costs. I've seen several boats made of painted bed sheets make the crossing from old Havana too (no rod holders).

Glasstream 221 cc. They look nice and are fuel efficient. However none if the electrical connections were heat shrunk. It doesn't draft as shallow as they say. Within a year went through 3 float switches, washdown pump, and bilge pump. Cleats are chrome and peeling. All wiring and wire harnesses are just laid into the bottom of the bilge and soak in saltwater when you take it out, and there is very little bilge access to rewire anything and finally it lacks any decent storage. Hope this helps

Nice review. A 23' with a solid hard Top, go with more HP at least 250 or 300hp. Whats the hull weight of this 23'? If you load it with gas & 3 buddies you'll be glad to have more torque and horsepower. On that huge console I'd go with a 12" screen or larger. I understand your trying to price it down but add a 2 axle trailer and your up to $80-85k my guess. Thanks 👍 and I subbed to your channel.

I have heard you mention Haulover Inlet before and I have seen another YT channel that features crazy crossings. I'm from the Pacific NW where we can have 12 foot or more tidal swings in a few hours. You guys have very little in the way of tides (two feet?) What causes the water outflow to create bar conditions at Haulover, is it rain water draining to sea?

No sound system for fishermen??? Quite the opposite for me, its like the dinner bell. For me big mutton like Jack Johnson, sail fish love Two Live Crew for some reason, flag yellow tail ball up by the boat when they hear Don Williams, 50 lbs Mahi jam to Stick figure and like it so much you dont have to wire em cuz the stay stationary alongside the boat so you can slam the gaff in them. Wahoo....not weehoos, if you want more than two you better be thumping Radar Love by Golden Earring and you’ll see them as if Neptune fired them out of a torpedo tubes toward your boat. I cant tell you the “secret sauce” on the music to thump when you try to get a grander/grandeur to swallow a 12-15 pound yellowfin but its new school and you’ll never guess it. You haven’t priced used boats. Everyone trying to get what they paid for them new. The cost of boats stay high now because banks finance them for 20-30 yrs so more and more people can afford them so they are buying them. Using them for a year or two then want to sell them but they haven’t put a dent in the principal.

@@larrygolden167 You're right. When I made this original comment, 6 months ago I wasn't up on current used boat prices. Since then, I've actually been shopping for a used 23' CC and have educated myself on used boat prices in today's world. In an effort to explain my incorrect, original comment, I live in Northern Illinois. Land of small to midsize fresh water inland lakes and the great lakes where CC boats are for some unexplainable reason not popular. For instance, I currently own a 21' deep vee Alumacraft Trophy. It's a 2007, low hrs and completely loaded for great lakes salmon fishing and family use. It's a great boat for the midwest. A boat, equipped this way is app. $68k new. My boat is worth around $30k with everything on it. Fiberglass CC's, years ago didn't hold their resale value like they do now. They were more in line with the market example I gave for my boat. That's not the case today. I'm not sure if it's due to simple supply and demand? Banks loaning long term "boat mortgages "? But regardless, the original poster of this video is correct and my original response was inaccurate. I could delete that original comment but I won't. And only because I believe it may be beneficial for others to read this .

R H I have been looking for a bigger boat also. Fiberglass boats are built a lot better now because most manufacturers don’t use wood in there boats anymore which was the biggest down fall in older boats. There are some small builders here in Florida that builds some nice boats. I have been looking at Hanson boats in Tampa they have what I am looking for in a boat they just make 23’ boats. They are supposed to make a 26’ which is the length I am looking for. I bought a new 20’ boat in 2016 for 21k that same boat new will cost you 40k now. I also had a friend sell his boat which is the same as mine for 30k a month ago.

Sportsman, Tidewater, Cobia amd Sea Fox alp make good boats in that range. I'm surprised you haven't heard of these guys. Especially for an angler like you.

@@ReelReports OK. You stated under a certain dollar amount. Those are more than adequate. For us regular people they work just fine. I'm not into boat snobbery. Goodluck with keeping viewers on your channel. I'll definitely be tuning out.

Dump the sound systems on a fishing boat. Underwater you can hear the music thumping a quarter mile away how many fish are turned away from that sound. Save money and catch more fish.

You can try, i will let you know if you got it right.

PLEASE get rid of the silly music and just tape live air acoustics- it will be much better even if you can't hear much while you're underway!

New boats are nice, but forget paying $75,000. I got mine used, fully loaded 2007 22’ Century center console with 8 Fusion speakers, 1 sub, two 9” Garmin Fish finders with 2 transducers, a head, 30 Gal live well, two 30 quart fish boxes, trim tabs, vhf, Epirb, 6’ sea anchor, 2015 Suzuki with only 159 hours, well maintained for $30,000. Now if you just want to waste your money on new.. go right ahead but if your a first time captain..you’ll won’t regret getting a good used boat.
