I remember flying in a chipmunk as a 15yr old in the air cadets, fantastic experience doing aerobatics at that age!

Yes, Marshalls at Cambridge. 104 squadron! It was wonderful. My teeth were chattering on my first flight.

I Loved flying the Chippie, in the ATC. we would get up to 6,500ft, then start doing aerobatics. Such a fun and predictable plane to fly.

I remember the Chipmunk in the ATC in the UK in 1970s. Does anyone know the original serial number for this aircraft?

Pilots that flew them in Cadets said handling was surprisingly similar without the power/ bite of a merlin to catch a student out with.

@@mikeparker4237 Yes the handling is sweet and if you are wanting to do a conversion to Spitfire eventually it's a natural progression after TW cert before big TW experience on the Harvard.

@historicalmachines oh ok,I've done aerobatics twice now in the Mk.22 Chipmunk, so that's why I'm curious, it's truly a wonderful aircraft!😁

Inwonder why they didnt make it so it had retractable gear

Retractable undercarriage on a primary trainer? That would be a bit too much, methinks.
