I take a plain plastic skull and haunt it up with some flickering LED lights and sound.

Super thorough video. As a first timer, so glad to finally find an almost complete walk through of connecting eyes, sound and power supply all in one. Going to attempt to apply this in the scenery this year.

I once saw a skull that had the jaw moving as it talked. All they did was route the audio not only to the speaker(s), but also to an electromagnetic actuator. There may have been a small amp to send enough power to the actuator, it's been decades. It worked really well and added even more life to the prop.

That's the next phase for this project, I want to show how to animate the jaw.

Love your stuff you make it look easy and doable. One question though, can you show us how to set up servos to make the jaw of the skeleton move in time with the sound card?

Ha, this is almost exactly the project I am currently working on. I'm just using the HD skeleton with light up eyes. I was pleasantly surprised to find mountings for a small speaker in the skull.

Wow, you're videos making it so simple to understand how to everythings works and I've been looking for years for videos like yours. Thank you so much. And now please make a video where a wiper motor is added for animatronic. Greetings from Germany and Happy Halloween.

I placed an order on your website just yesterday for the motion sensor mp3 player combo. We are part of a Ghostbusters group and I have a large Slimer (printed in three parts on the Kobrw Max) and am currently printing a Real Ghostbusters Samhain head with the hands afterwards. I want to use their audio while having them light up when motion is detected. I was going to utilize yellow LEDs for Samhain's eyes.

Seems like it would be easier and just as effective to simply drill awhile for that little mount and stick it through the whole from the front??
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 7 ай бұрын
You could, but if you do that the hole would be same size as the eye and mounting it becomes problematic. You also run the risk of making the hole to big and that makes mounting the eye almost impossible. Also, having the whole eye show makes skull look bug-eyed.
@bmxshippy
@bmxshippy 7 ай бұрын
@@TheMakersCave I mean make a small hole for the wire and that tab you stuck the stick into, but yeah it would make it look big eyed, then again, aren’t all skeletons bug eyed? Lol

Do you have a video on how to get the audio onto it? And one to animate the mouth too? I know the mechanicals of installing. A servo to the mouth but how do you program/wire it to work with something like this? For next year I’m building a Skeleton stirring a cauldron and want him to talk also
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 7 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late response, I thought I answered this, but it's showing as unanswered. There's a Micro USB port on the board for loading files on to either the SD card or the onboard storage. In this video I just used the on board storage.

I've been trying to figure out how hack to an old Xbox dance pad to use as a floor pad activator. Also trying to figure out how to place a push button control board with projector for spectators to control. Imagine 9 scenes. When you individually push a button the projector starts with that specific music and video the animatronic moves and lights come on. Is this way beyond what can be done? Suggestions of videos to watch?
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 8 ай бұрын
Hi! I've never played around with a dance pad but I would think it can be hacked to be used like you want. I think the type of video control you want for this project is best suited for a RaspberryPi. A very interesting project, I'll have to look into do this.

If I want to trigger a sound bite through a powered speaker what type of set up do I need? Is it a speaker that has to be on all the time like a guitar amp? Say if I want 50-100 watts of power or more…thanks
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave Ай бұрын
The board I used in that video has a 3.5mm (1/8") stereo jack, like what you'll find on your computer. Just use a 3.5mm stereo jack adapter to take the output to what ever amp you are using.
@66boogie
@66boogie Ай бұрын
So I just need a powered speaker that stays on, right? Then when triggered the sound comes out?

Is there a way (without sound) to leave the heads with a USB power supply hookup for an USB powder outlet (instead of individual powder supply)... for a group of heads for a shelf or shelfs? Wanting to have a group of heads plug into a USB string outlet to power together (remote off/on powder supply) and maybe motion sensor when powdered on? Is any of this possible??
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 7 ай бұрын
Absolutely, just wire the eyes in parallel from one skull to the next and run it off a 5V phone charger. I suggest at least a 2 amp charger.

Hey, now that Halloween is coming down, I have a question about sound. I use a "perfect storm" controller for part of my set up and this year I was trying to use an mp3 player as the source audio input. I ran into an issue with a few different ,inexpensive players found on amazon would only repeat a tract a few times then stop, even when in repeat /loop setting and fully powered. This effect is on a hill on my property and want it to run for a few days unattended. Have you seen any audio boards that will continually play a single file indefinitely as long as it has power. I hate to have to pull out my old portable cd player,
@TheMakersCave
@TheMakersCave 7 ай бұрын
Let me check our one board. I think as long as the one pin is grounded on that board it will continuously play

Thanks, I have two power runs running to that location one on a timer for the lighting array and the other to power the sound source for the thunder. If I could have the sound start as soon as power is turned on then it would be one less issue to troubleshoot for that week.@@TheMakersCave
