Thanks for the video. I managed to cram my old exhaust fan next to my 3.5" HD by removing the clips by using 2 rubber connectors and 2 zip ties. Very important to connect the 4 pin connector to the old exhaust fan to avoid the BIOS error. I ran it initially w/o the old exhaust fan, but added only to correct the BIOS error. So far so good.

I bought this computer back in march of 2021, I know very little about them but this one made me want to learn. I got it more ram as my first upgrade as it seemed the easiest. I knew since I had the cheaper model with the pancake fan cooling was an issue. Your giving me the confidence to start learning more & upgrading my computer! Going to change out my little case fan first as it seems less daunting then changing out the main cooler, but thank you for helping me get started!

Hey man your videos are a lifesaver! I have a xps 8940 with the 3060ti and used your vids as a guide. Noctua cooler and 92mm exhaust brought the temp of the cpu to 60 or under full load. Using the old exhaust as the intake is very loud and cooled off the cpu even more but but only 2 degrees of difference to the GPU. I assume a noctua intake would be far quieter however I'm not sure if it's totally worth it.

Thanks a bunch for the video and advice! I held off on buying the noctua cpu cooler as I have the tower cooler from Dell. Decided to buy two 92mm noctuas (one for the back and one for lower front as I have the XPS instead of the G5) managed to attach the 92mm lower front fan with some thin steel wire, it's a little hacky but is works great! Temps in the case dropped significantly for GPU, CPU and M.2. Your video really helped in deciding what to do :)

Thank you for this video! Bought a G5 to hold me over until prices get better to build again. i5-10400f rx 580 8gb . Originally it was running 72 degrees on the cpu and 72 on the gpu while playing pubg - added the 92mm Noctua fan as the exhaust fan and I am using the original fan as in intake ( removed the HDD tray) Temps were between 56-60 on the cpu and around 62-63 on the gpu. $20 for 1 fan was to do this was well worth it. I might upgrade the cpu cooler eventually but I am rather pleased that this computer can be solid for just a bit more $ into it. Dell should really spend this extra amount to make it useable in the first place.

@Mike Bakers --- I purchased and 8940. The NF-A9 and NF-A8 is definitely a good combination. I use an Alseye DR90 cpu cooler (PC store installed it). I then purchase a NF-A9 to replace the Dell stock 80 mm exhaust fan. I then was able to wedge the NF-A8 in the front under the HDD drive and wire bundle. It snuggly fit between the two in the front of the case to bring in more front air flow. Went from in the 90 - 80F range down to the 60 - 70 F range. GPU (PNY Nvidia GT 1030 installed) also went down from 5 F from 95 to 90F.

Just wanted to say great video, I did the fan and cooler swap before. Using a dell k series cooler on the non-K CPU and repurposing the 80 mm fan to the front using an 80mm 3d printed bracket you can install sidewise into the case and it will work fine using standard fan screws. Also did a 120 mm fan on top of that one using the 3D-printed bracket. What were your temps under load max and mins and averages? I can get anywhere from 88-93 highs on the CPU still it doesn't thermal throttle just power throttles after about 230 seconds. GPU is about 73c under load. I know the 3060 TI and 3070s vent hot air into the case. Also, note I used the Scythe Flex 2 PWM high STatic pressure 93mm / CFM as a rear exhaust and 120 mm scythe flex II high cfm static pressure front intake, they do not cause post errors as well. Sadly unlike the G5 8940 you cannot adjust the fan curves as the Alienware fan software doesn't read the 8940 fans. You can use Speedfan which kinda works, however, the fans will never reach full speed as it seems that DELL locked the there fan curves to about 1500-1600 on the sys and 2850 on CPU.

I did this install recently along with the cpu cooler and for whatever reason if I don't have the original dell fan that I put at the front of the tower lower side like you did my power unit and computer go bonkers . I have to use the 3 pin off the sys fan splitter for the rear 92 exhaust fan . I also use the 3 pin off the cpu splitter for the 120. Did you have this happen to you as well where your computer just went bonkers with certain cable setups ? Let me know . I also noticed that my rear fan doesn't spin as quick as it did before but this is probably having to do with the fact I'm on a 3 pin but if I change it to the 4 from the splitter and run the 3 to the dell .. like i said up there ,^ the computer doesn't like it

I am really worried the bad cooling is going to affect the performance since I have a 3080 and a i9 in it.

Hey j, solid video and thanks for this. I had a question as I'm contemplating doing something similar. With the better cooling arrangement, do you run into any issues with the Dell mobo limiting you cpu with the better cpu cooler? I guess what I'm asking is what the clock speed of the cpu running st when your are doing extended gaming period

Great video, I hope I have found this earlier. I have a 8940 with the pancake fun, I exchanged the cpu fan to the K version tower, added VRM heat sink. I probably should have stopped there. But under load my 3060 ti temp hovers around 67-75C, and cpu in the 72-78C range occasionally into 80s. So I replaced the 80mm rear fan to a noctua A9, plugged into sys_fan connector, without adjusting fan curve (I don’t know how, and I thought pwm will optimize the performance and noise level). And the only difference I can tell is lowered noise, no change to temperature at all. Now I’m not sure if I should go further and add a 120mm intake. But you mentioned that it is not worth it… another thing, 8940 front panel does not have perforated vents in the upper part, will that 120mm even work as expected if it is installed in the HDD bracket location? Thank you for the nice video and apologize for my English.

I'd say it's worth it if someone can 3d print that part!
@TurboZHK
@TurboZHK 2 жыл бұрын
@@JSyntax I went ahead and added the 120mm intake, it only cost me about 8 USD to print 2 copy of that frame. But I end up removing that 120mm intake because it made the cooling worse. My guess is that because the front cover of 8940 is only perforated in the lower half, the 120mm intake didn't actually bring enough fresh cool air in, instead it created a wall and trapped some hot air from reaching the exhaust efficiently. The lower part of side cover got quite a bit hotter than without the 120mm, seems the hot air produced by the GPU was trapped and couldn't move up as much as with just the 90mm exhaust.

Is there an alternative to using the artic fan? As I'd like to know if there is a secure way you can still have the gpu bracket. Would installing the dell fan or a Noctua fan work there securely? So I ordered a G5 before seeing any of your videos and made some mistakes. I have an i7 but not K series. This will likely need the Noctua fan upgrade right? Also, I got 1x16 GB of RAM, not knowing the difference between that and 2x8. I emailed them asking to change my order and they said they could not, but they applied a 90$ credit. I plan to use that towards another stick of RAM. Do you have any suggestions for that second stick? I am a total computer newbie. I got the 3.5" drive, but that doesn't matter if I don't plan to change the other fans right? Lastly, the order details say it's a 500W chassis. Do you think that is enough power with a 2060 graphics card? In Canada btw. Thanks for any and all help, I really appreciate your videos!

Hey, congrats on the purchase! Yes, I'd highly recommend upgrading the Noctua fan to prevent high noise and performance throttling. I'm selling my ram if you are interested on kijiji toronto, I have 4x8gb 2666mhz. But yes, I'd get another 16gb ram stick. 500w is plenty to support even up to 3070! 3.5 hdd bay is not ideal for me, id rather put the 120mm fan. I have an extra 3d printed part for sale too !

I'm about to add the 120mm noctua (intake) I was able to get the 3D model bracket. I already did the NF-A9 and cpu cooler swap. I'll bring the original Dell OEM at the GPU level and add the 120mm at the top as intake. With now 4 fans including the cpu cooler. Which one should be together with Y splitter? Intake together and cpu/radiator together? Which one should be on the 3 pin vs 4 pin on the splitter? Knowing that I now have 3 noctua and 1 Dell OEM? Finally ;) how to properly maximize their potential through AWCC? Thanks for your help and time!!!

Hey, could you tell me how much help the NF-A9 rear exhaust fan is at reducing temps, and how it affects noise after already doing a cpu cooler swap? I'm trying to get a good estimate because I switched the crappy pancake cpu cooler for the Vetroo V5, which has done wonders for temps, but "it" (I don't know which fan, could be the 80mm rear fan) gets way too loud while gaming. In exchange for any help you give me, I'd like to let you know that you can run some commands in the powershell that enable you to go into power options and set a limit on maximum processor frequency, to help reduce temperature or noise if need be www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_add_or_remove_maximum_processor_frequency.html#:~:text=Maximum%20processor%20frequency%20specifies%20the,or%20consuming%20too%20much%20power.
