"Available light, that only means your afraid to shoot with flash". I had a good laugh with that one. It is so true. So many people don't try things because they are afraid of failing but, it is part of the learning process. Learning Flash Photography equals experimenting with it. All the new cameras coming out are great with mind blowing specs but, forget them. Want to buy new gear, invest in lighting equipment for your biggest bang for the dollar. Great vid.

I know you said to be the master of one genre but I find that trying different genres helps me to be a better photographer overall. I like doing nature and landscapes but equally, get the same enjoyment from working with models in the studio or on location. Basically, it's the creative process that's appealing. So in answer to the question posed I would just say keep experimenting with the camera and get used to it.

Nothing wrong with expanding your skill set. But from a marketing / business standpoint, it’s better to specialize.

I am one of the shoot everything i can people. I'm not in it for the money just for fun. However, I have taken the challenge on occasion of just grab one lens and learn as much as I can. Thanks to hosts like you, Seth Miranda(everyone please go sign up at twitch and discord @lastxwitness for the greatest photography community on the planet), Daniel Norton and Vanessa Joy, I have learned so much. Keep up the great work and hope we get back to touring soon!! #CreateNoMatterWhat #adorama #lastxwitness

In order to improve my photography, I'm just trying to get out and shoot more. I've been scouting locations, virtually, that might give me opportunities for good images once Spring arrives.

Getting out and shooting more is one part of it, getting the most out of the gear you have to use is also very important.

I mean...I understand the reasoning behind saying available light photographers are just afraid of flash but that isn't always true... not all areas of photography require a ton of lighting equipment, if any at all. I, myself, do urban exploration photography, street photography and landscapes/nature/wildlife, most of which I don't carry around more than a speed light, modifier and stand set-up, simply because it isn't really needed (though I have used flash before in my endeavours on occasion). I just graduated college for photography and I learned flash photography pretty much in its entirety, but just because I tend to use natural light more than flash and base my business on mostly natural light photos, that doesn't mean I'm afraid of flash because I'm not; I can and will use it if I need to. It shouldn't matter so much if natural light photographers don't use flash if their photos are strong and they are good at what they do. So I guess it's to each their own, and sayings like these are to be taken with a grain of salt.

I like to photograph trains. I would like to know what you would say about how you would compose a shot for something that isn't there yet. I have found it difficult to find info on the exposure triangle when it comes to railroad photography. Thanks.

I have a canon speedlite but would love to explore strobe just not sure if there is one that won't be to complicated. Is there one that you would recommend that won't break my bank account?

I feel attacked in so many ways.. Just kidding! Much of this hit home and definitely made me realize I still spend too much time with my head in my camera bc everything still isn't muscle memory. ESPECIALLY focus modes with a camera I'm not familiar with. Great video, David! Now, I need to go grab a 50mm and practice getting out of my comfort zone! Maybe every time I shoot at f/1.4 I have to donate to charity.
