I think many people have had a similar experience to language learning. This can be really helpful when doing your training on the CELTA as it serves as a good reference point to gauge the usefulness of some of the methods and approaches presented to you on the course.

Thank you so much for the video, currently working on my CELTA and in both of my lesson plans my CCQ's have been my "Achilles heal" so to speak.

@@amberarmstrong3227 Very understandable, they certainly took me a while to get to grips with when I was first starting out teaching. How is your CELTA going? And I always like to ask people, what part of the world are you taking the course in? Wishing you every success with your course!

It is going well, of course being in a school centered mindframe after so long can be challenging. I chose an online course to suit my needs, so I am excited and a little nervous for when I actually get to do the physical teaching. I am currently in Orlando, Florida.😊

@@amberarmstrong3227 @Amber Armstrong Florida is certainly a place I would love to have the opportunity to know more. I hope you're recovering well from the recent storm. You have a great governor down there who is really doing his best for all you Floridians. Teaching is a very rewarding profession - I highly recommend the in person way, as after all, we are all human beings who thrive on human contact. I offer consultations to prospective and current CELTA trainees to help them achieve their goals. if you feel you need any at any point throughout your course, and would like to explore that option, you can email me fergustrainer@gmail.com

Hey, so you need to find the balance...asking 5 ccqs per lang item would probably be too much. About your other question, I would say that it all comes down to 2 things (1) Doing a good LA so that you have things clear in your head. (2) Keeping your aim realistic so that you can adequately cover the area in sufficient depth within the time. Having said that, this is a really interesting question and one worthy of more discussion, could i ask you to post it to CELTA Essentials community. Thanks

Thank you Fergus, I've posted it, hope it'll help someone who's in similar situation. Finding balance is difficult for me, I just... keep talking, trying to help, end up answering my own questions. Maybe it's got to do with my own learning experience. English is not my L1, I was a very teacher-dependant student at school, so were my classmates. Having taught in many places around the world you probably know what it's like in some countries. Far from what CELTA places emphasise on:) Thanks.

Thank you for another nice video:) I've been told off by my tuitor for asking too many CCQs now:). It wouldn't be more than 5, but in my last TP I ran out of time because I spent too much of it on Language Analysis - half of the class, in my opinion, had problems with the TL and kept asking questions. Is it practical in this case to just tell them the meaning without eliciting, ask 1-2 CCQs, and move on even though some students still don't understand the TL..? Thanks.

Dear Fadden, firstly thank for your sharing since I find many pieces of helpful information via your video. Now, I'm really interested in applying concept-checking-CCQs- to teach grammar, but I'm afraid of lacking knowledge. Could you and others share me some nice books and articles? I'm in need of them. Thank for spending time on reading my comment. Have a nice day, all!

Hi dung nguyen thanks for the comment and getting in touch. The book that I usually recommend is Concept Questions and Time Lines by Graham Workman, here is an Amazon link to it: www.amazon.com/Concept-Questions-Lines-Graham-Workman/dp/0955946107 . I hope that helps and good luck.

+Dragica Jordanoska Have a look at Concept Questions and Timelines by Graham Workman. This book is not the most exciting in the world but it does lay out in very simple black and white how to devise CCQs and also gives many examples. I will soon be putting together a vid on ICQs. However in the meantime, remember that with instructions it is all about making sure that the students know how to best do the task, so sometimes an example or a demonstration of an activity would be just as effective, if not more so, than an ICQ

Thanks Fergus. i've read Scriviner on Instr and CQ and am trying to practice. Since we need to write Research and action plan am reflecting on my pratice. I filmed myself in ction and was shocked. So many things I wasn't aware of. I teach mostly YL (6-12) and giving instructions has always been a challenge. Thanks for the video again very informative. Will follow this community as well..keep it up:)

Hi Fergus! I hope you don't teach quite as laconically as this.. - good info - but all your students would be asleep by the end of it. !
