Is it possible to improve a fly that's already amazing? I think it is.... Simple addition that will make your flies more attractive to fish Cheers Vladimir

Great technique for using those precious CDC fibers. I use the Improved F Fly to imitate small size 14 - 16 olive stone flies on my local water.

Thanks so much. Cdc is an amazing material and f fly is very universal fly. I use it almost during any hatch.

Thanks. I believe its easier to remember technique like this. Just doing without thoughts behind may be too "dry" Cheers Vladimir 🍺😀

Good morning from the States,well guess it is evening where you're at.The legs is a great improvement to the fly fly.You have your style of tying,and and my wife and I enjoy watching.She uses a lot of cdc.We went to the fly tying symposium last Nov. Marc Petetjean called her the Queen of cdc,made her day.Have a great weekend my friend.

It is, evening... Dinner time when i got comment.... Glad to hear about your wife. Not many ladies are into our hobby. But i can imagine they are good. They have nice gentle hands. Marc has very good flies. Probably the most knowledgeable person about cdc. So what he said is a huge compliment. Unfortunately i havent had an honor to meet him Maybe one day. 😀 Enjoyed your weekend. Tight lines Vladimir

Mole is a nice Dubbing for nymphs too, it is water repellent and can be used to "suspend" a light nymph. I use it for sight fishing in low Water and only with Brass Beads or without weight...
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that information I did some nymphs before, unweighted, with mole. But i never considered its water repellent. Cheers 😀😀

@@Oholisfliesandfishing I think Mole is not as hydrophobic as Superfine Dubbing but something between... Have a nice weekend!
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
I think it should be. Moles need protection from water for sure. But i will experiment Cheers and enjoy the weekend

Excellent video. Your instruction with close-ups is very helpful. Your shirt color provided an excellent background/profile plate for us to see the details of the fly’s development. When I hand whip-finish, I always need a bodkin to help control pulling the last wrap to secure the knot, otherwise the thread usually bunches-up.
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. And thanks for your feedback. Regarding thread bunching up... Next time try to flatten the thread prior to whip finishing. Twisted thread tends to bunch up while flat doesnt. Flat also allows knot to sit better and be more durable. Hope this helps. 😀 Cheers Vladimir

I tye these down to size 18 ,i was on the water with a hatch that was coming off heavy, fish all around me rising i would never of believed how many fish were rising, never seen anything like it before on the water. It was getting dark i had my light on and i had a size 16 brown olive cdc fly, close to this one, i dont know if he hit it by mistake cause it was getting dark, it was a real nice fish, finally after 4 hrs and 100 flies later of the best hatch i ever seen on the water. I threw every fly i had at them, i tie professionally and they wouldn't even look at anything i had, so next day i took a lot of these spent mayflys , they were in my hat in my pockets, i wanted to know what they were ,i thought it was a isnoychia. i went online showed the picture to a few guys and guides i know and try and identify them. I was half right, he told me its a isnoychia but its a certain species and type that only comes out every 20 years it has a flourscent green tint to it and looks like the isnoyhia, the nymph looks the same, but the dry is different . This ever happen to anyone .

I tie those down to 24.... As for the hatch... I got into massive hatches few times and it was always difficult. Fish tend to focus on certain things we may not see. Size always matter in these situations as well as feeding lane. If fish are high up in the column their field of view is narrow. This means your presentation has to be accurate in 5cm often....

Great video thanks Vladi. One question please. When you align the CDC feathers, are they curved away from each other as one would for splayed wings, or with curved the same way? Many thanks for the great material
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much ... In this case i align curve too. And surface of feathers is perpendicular to water so it has more surface tension. If i was to make a mayfly i would curve feathers away to splay them and again, create a bit more surface tension. 🍺😀
@nicolelewis1828 Жыл бұрын
Vladimir, thanks for this great video! In which sizes do you typically tie these?
@Oholisfliesandfishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I usually dont go over 14. But i go down to sizes 24 Most often i use 16-18 Cheers

i prefer to use simple slim thread body and CDC without stem.
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thread body is great, its original way. Nothing wrong there. I experimented with wings without rachis (stem) and i hate when wings get deformed after time. I believe rachis keeps wing in shape and adds a bit of control of the wing shape as well as some improved water resistance (creates better surface tension) For tiny flies of course.... No rachis. Cheers Vladimir 😀🍺

@@Oholisfliesandfishing cdc flies are bad for floating it's not a secret; there's one wich do the job better than the other. It's Marc Petit Jean Basic caddis made in a dubbing loop without stem, no compare with this one to others for floating kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e-BifcV1m66YqqM.html
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 жыл бұрын
@@pat6888 I know this one. I personally use snowshoe or deer hair whenever i have fast-rough water. Fish dont mind too much there. I wouldnt agree that cdc is bad floater. For moderate to still water i use flies with max three feathers for wings, usually its two...And i never had problems with buoyancy. Not even with shuttlecock style flies. But for that i need good cdc of course. Also, i almost never use any floatants with cdc..
