Another option is that as a "bug-out" shelter, you could pile leaves and other forest debris on it for camoflage and insulation.
@iamaten27195 жыл бұрын
Now that's what I'm talking about! Also, I would put one in the back of my truck bed and Climb right up in there while camping. Wouldn't have to bother with assembling and taking down a tent. When the trip is over I can simply shut my tail gate and I'm home bound.

Kevin S, Awesome idea! Camouflage and insulation. Sound insulation especially! If you go back to the video of his first prototype, you'll note that the corrugated plastic is noisy as hell when it rains. Using forest debris and leaves would solve that issue at least.

Years ago a fella I know developed something similar -- an emergency box folded out of 2-layer coroplast. He promoted the concept equipped with blankets and other dry bug out things, and it folded out into a pvc-covered pram-style flat bottom boat you could pull behind you and keep some things dry. It folded out long enough to sleep in as a dry shelter. I liked it because of no seams to leak, and his 3d spatial reasoning skill for the folding ;) His idea was to unload a stack of them at a time, already stocked as kits.

I squatted in a cargo conainer up North for 3 years, and this would have been great for inside Snowbunker, as the door was warped and wouldnt close completely. In the summer, i had Vermont mosquitoes, and in the winter i had 'possums wanting to hibernate, and an ermine even stopped by for some soup. I used molten candlewax and newspaper in a steel can as a stove. Anyway, yes, this would have been helpful.

I'd prefer this shelter to a bed in a homeless shelter, even in winter. We've done some winter camping and as long as you have the right gear and take precautions it's fine. We use fleece to insulate our foam pads from the ground and we also use fleece liners in our sleeping bags so you don't feel the cold through the zipper. It's better than a colder rates sleeping bag.

@paulanull87315 жыл бұрын
Yes. So far the only shelters FEMA provided were trailers/mobile homes that were dangerously toxic and poisoned people after hurricanes. Of course they were labelled as such and then sold to the public for recycling etc.. Yep, to other unscrupulous people who sold them to the unsuspecting after removing the stickers. So people still raise kids and live in them even now.

It's a great design- I can seriously see it being a Blessing to anyone who needs shelter or anyone just looking for a spot of serenity. I could also easily see this in a spoof video of urbanites setting these out in a park for the homeless like people putting out birdhouses or hummingbird feeders. "Don't feed the ducks your stale bread.... Feed the Hungry Humans instead!" Homeless does not mean helpless- a temporary emergency shelter is not the same as long term housing. ANYONE can find themselves down&out in one way or another... It's only the details that vary. Some are just more obvious and extreme than others. I've seen plenty of rich people who were destitute in all that matters most and poor people who were wealthier in honour than royalty...

Weight is an issue with these shelters, moving them on site and then when on site, think about a solid block of polystyrene with a waterproof facing for the slab, also for the roof twin-cell polyester sheeting, like the stuff for "house for sale" signs are made of, both offer great insulation from the cold and heat, flat packing (if possible) for storage and moving is also a big advantage, just a thought, glad someone is thinking of homeless people, keep up the good work,
