For the trades itself definitely understand it. They are combining Smarts’s defense+Brogdon’s playmaking into Jrue, and Grant’s shooting+Williams’s rim protection into Porzingis. But at the same time if one or two of the players in that six man rotation are injured they gonna be in trouble

Smart is a high risk high reward defender. He usually gambles on defense that can can cost greatly or reward remarkably. While Jrue is low risk high reward, he is very controlled with his defense. I like this for Boston, still miss Smart tho. Imagine Jrue, Smart, White on the same team 👀

@@ry_an. they didn’t have to be. The Jays will do the scoring, the guards focus perimeter defense and off ball movements. And if you base them by their heights? If you watch them, you’d know they play big for their size. They guard 1-5

coming back to this video and the comments after the celtics won the championship where jrue was arguably 3rd in the finals mvp race is incredibly interesting - he was such a disgustingly perfect fit for this team. we got all the defensive highs of marcus smart without his offensive defiencies, and the best defensive backcourt in the league. taking the offensive load off of him allowed him to show off how high his basketball iq actually is - he's maybe *the* key player to us winning both the ecf and the finals because of his contributions on both sides of the floor. his offense was especially great in the finals, he always seemed to be in the right position to get the easy pass. the duo he formed with tatum was amazing to watch, they seemed so in sync. this and the porzingis trade is such a masterclass in teambuilding by brad stevens, and now when we drafted baylor scheierman as a hauser backup, next season cannot come fast enough.

Jrue is the best poa defender in the nba. Derrick white is the best off ball guard defender in the nba. He contests as many shots at the hoop as a lot of centers and rotations are excellent. They can both play on/off ball on offense and have connecting/spacing/scaling attributes. 2 players that aren’t fair to have together. Then porzingus rim protection and horfords switch ability and the jays are solid. This is the best defense I’ve seen in a while. Great vid!

On offense it all fits. White and jrue are pgs who can play off ball and white is key due to him as a connector. Jays are the jays. Porzingus is a weapon. This top 6 is possibly the best top 6 I’ve seen only thing is after the 6 they have nobody

I love how you showed every guard and forward that have been killing the Celtics for years. People overrated Marcus defensively. He didn’t “lock down” any of these cats like how Jrue does. Marcus never had a game where he could at least make the guy work on the other end either; which hurt us on both ends. This is a win.

I really thought about it, Malcolm is good but he was not dependable at all in Boston + they got Derrick white and now JRUE to fill that role. Losing timelord sucks but if you think about it, I think Horford was the better big in the playoffs against the elite bigs like Embiid, giannis, and bam

This Horford consistently plays good defense and Porzingis had a block and a half a game but they act like everyone gonna go off there. Tstum can also help a tiny bit there

I'd say Holiday, and it mostly comes from the fact that he can give you that production on 38-40 MPG, whereas Caruso's harder to keep on the floor for that long.

I agree that holiday es more burnt out in Milwaukee we sled a ton him and be did everything except by time playoffs came be burnt out. In Celtics were going see one best playoff seasons. I love my bucks but Celtics will take it again because our coach being new Boston has good coaching which we never had our coach is unkown ? I just want Dame win one and I'll be happy

I don’t think he’s that good of a screen navigator, a lot of those were weaker screens/screen setters. A lot of these weren’t traditional high screen and rolls as well and he is just going under a lot of these screens which isn’t the sign of an elite screen navigator.

Dame average 26 ppg against Jrue with no help kill the fake narratives. Mind you every time they have played Jrue has either had Anthony Davis or Brook and Giannis as help defenders. Dame will be fine against Jrue playing with Giannis. He’s going to get off count on that.

@ifheavenwashuman Definitely, especially on defense. But the problem with the eye test is the subjectivity. Most people don't rewatch games to see what actually happened and only watch the ball during games, so their impression of someone's defense is inaccurate.

@@itsxtrayeye test is the best way to look at defense in my opinion, Larry bird has a better defensive rating than Scottie pippen, so that’s one reason why I wouldn’t care too much about advance defense stats.
